  • Patent number: 4911161
Abstract: A capsulectomy apparatus which comprises a console, a handpiece and a needle. The handpiece operates from a vibrating transducer which drives a rod within the sleeve of the needle for actively engageing the anterior lens capsule which is to be severed. The head of the needle which engages and cuts the anterior lens capsule of the eye has a specific angular relationship with the rod within the needle. Also, the cutting edges and surfaces associated with the head of the needle have a specific configuration for enhancing the cutting quality of the apparatus. The needle is disposable and specifically configured to be removeably affixed to the handpiece.

  • Patent number: 4833918
Abstract: A device is provided for detecting the ullage level and flow in a vessel by detecting the presence of a solid or liquid material in proximity to a microwave detector. The device may be mounted to the side of the vessel or suspended inside the vessel so as to bring the microwave sensor into proximity with the surface of the contents of the vessel. A microwave bridge circuit may be used to detect a change in either the amplitude or phase of a signal reflected by the material within the vessel compared to a reference signal tuned to either the presence or absence of the anticipated solid or liquid material. In one embodiment, the reflected material signal is compared to the signal from a sample chamber containing the material to be detected. The device can reliably detect the level of multiple interfaces for various materials having distinct electric or magnetic properties.

  • Patent number: 4771451
Abstract: A polarity ring director for designating a specific party in a multi-party telephone system using polarity encoding to ring only a specific party's telephone includes a solid state bipolar switch connected in series with the subscriber telephone line. The bipolar switch is unipolar in one polarity to pass DC signals and is selectively unipolar in the opposite polarity to selectively pass AC signals in response to a pilot signal to ring the subscriber's telephone. A pilot switch is responsive to polarity encoded line conditions for generating the pilot signal. A polarity detection circuit responsive to a predetermined pattern of AC and DC voltages superimposed on three input channels selectively enables or disables the pilot switch. A telephone line addressing means couples the tip, ring and ground lines of a telphone system in a predetermined pattern to the three input channels.

  • Patent number: 4717286
Abstract: An anti-scour apparatus and method for preventing, reducing or repairing scour in the vicinity of a structure extending vertically from the floor beneath a body of moving water. The anti-scour apparatus comprises one or more deflectors, a spacer for maintaining the positional relationship of the deflectors and for maintaining the positional relationship of the deflectors and the floor beneath the body of water, and a plurality of hydraulic trips operatively associated with the structure. The method for preventing scour including the steps of deflecting a downwash at a location adjacent the structure and above the floor, deflecting a downwash at a location adjacent the structure and adjacent the floor, inducing the turbulent flow of water adjacent the structure, and capturing the suspended sediment for filling prior scour.

  • Patent number: 4691387
Abstract: An athletic glove apparatus for providing a non-slip grip and for providing padding and protection to the hand and the various areas of impact for use in different sports. A baseball glove apparatus comprises a glove and a bat wrap, the glove comprising a palm truss, a thumb truss a lower finger truss on each finger and a pad such that the bat wrap engages the truss members. A water sport glove comprises a glove and a ski handle, the glove comprising a palm truss, a thumb truss, a lower finger truss on each finger, an intermediate finger truss on each finger and an outer finger truss on the middle two fingers, the ski handle comprising a handle wrap that acts with the truss members to provide a secure, padded grip. A weight lifting glove comprising a glove and a wrap member, the glove comprising a palm truss, a lower finger truss on each finger, an intermediate finger truss on each finger and a palm pad, such that the wrap member actively engages the truss members for providing a non-slip, padded grip.
