  • Patent number: 5652979
Abstract: A holder for bed coverings for use with an unencumbered edge of a bed, preferably the foot of a footboardless bed. The holder has several hollow tubes and an identical number of poles. Each hollow tube is positioned between the mattress and the box spring of the bed so that one of its ends is adjacent to the unencumbered edge of the bed. One end of each pole, being slightly smaller in diameter than each of the hollow tubes, is slidably inserted into one of the hollow tubes. The other end of each pole is attached to a vertical end piece so that the mattress, the vertical end piece, and the poles define a storage space for bed coverings and other objects. Applications may include, but are not limited to, use for supporting bedspreads, comforters, blankets, bathrobes, other clothing, extra pillows, and sheets.

  • Patent number: 5649728
Abstract: A tong-like eating utensil having opposing prongs on the inside distal ends thereof for use by a person in gripping pieces of food so that the person's hands do not come into direct contact with the food. Handles connected to rotating prong support brackets allow food secured by the prongs to be rotated into a variety of convenient positions for easy consumption. Heat insulating end members may be connected between the handles and the rotating prong support brackets to protect the user's hands from hot food. Applications may include, but are not limited to, use in gripping finger foods such as barbecued chicken wings, shrimp dipped in seafood sauce, and hot buttery foods such as bread sticks.

  • Patent number: 5641067
Abstract: A housing device for the retractable storage of a wire, cord or cable which is capable of operationally interconnecting electronic equipment, such as portable speakers and radios, while the interiorly coiled end of the wire, cord or cable remains coiled around a rotatable spool during connection. In its preferred embodiment, the housing device has a cover with connection ports therethrough. A radio connected to the connection ports becomes operationally connected with the interiorly coiled end of the wire, cord or cable through electrically conductive means integral with the spring-driven spool. The outer end of the coiled wire is then extended through an opening in the housing cover and connected to a portable speaker. The opening in the housing would be just large enough to accommodate the wire. A device larger in diameter than the wire would be attached at the near end of the exposed wire to prevent it from retracting all the way back inside the housing.

  • Patent number: 5638852
Abstract: A combined sunbather shade and carrying case including two semicircular-shaped, stretchable panels of opaque material attached together along the arcuate portion of their perimeters, a semi-rigid semicircular tube of sufficient dimension for insertion between the two panels along their arcuate perimeters and for support thereof, easily releasable fastening means to retain the semicircular tube between the panels during use, and an elongated wire component smaller in diameter than the semicircular tube so that each of its ends can be inserted into one of the openings in each end of the semicircular tube, the wire component being made of a flexible material which can be reversibly shaped into different configurations but which is able to retain the configuration into which it is formed until reshaped, the wire component providing a support structure for the semicircular tube and panels, the attached stretchable panels having sufficient dimension for use in preventing solar radiation from reaching selected parts

  • Patent number: 5636565
Abstract: An embossing method for marking braille numbers on currency notes wherein the embossing device used by the present invention has a universal female die permanently affixed to its upper platen and interchangeable lower counters for use in marking labels to affix to currency notes or for embossing braille markings directly on currency notes. The universal female die would collectively incorporate indentations for the braille markings of all of the currency denominations commonly used, such as one dollar bills, five dollar bills, ten dollar bills, twenty dollar bills, fifty dollar bills, and one hundred dollar bills. The interchangeable lower counters could comprise braille images placed on a rotating disk or individual counter units. • Patent number: 5628675
Abstract: A pipe end trimming device for hand-held use in beveling the outer surface of the end of one pipe so that the beveled end may fit within the end of a similar diameter pipe for a strong connection therebetween. The preferred embodiment abrasive cylinders which are motor driven. An aligning arm with an adjustable aligning edge allows for quick, uniform beveling of different diameter pipe. Shielding adjacent to the abrasive cylinders protects the operator from debris thrown from the pipe during the beveling process.

  • Patent number: 5609521
Abstract: A bait cutting board with a cutout portion on its perimeter to allow attachment of the bait cutting board to a cleat on a boat. An adjustable brace closes across the cutout portion to securely attach the bait cutting board to the boat cleat so that a portion of the bait cutting board may be suspended over water during use. Shims attached to the lower surface of the bait cutting board engage the boat and level the working surface of the bait cutting board. In its preferred embodiment a rail, which is supported by rail posts, is positioned around the perimeter of the bait cutting board to keep desirable parts of the bait from falling off the working surface of the bait cutting board, while at the same time allowing undesirable parts of the bait to be easily swept under the rail and into the water below. The rail may be omitted from the near edge of the perimeter to provide a user with easier access to the working surface of the bait cutting board.

  • Patent number: 5597159
Abstract: A batting practice device which has a partially hollowed-out practice ball suspended by a knotted rope, or a line having a flared-out end, from a handle. The batting practice device is used to swing a practice ball with a removable cap in front of batters to help them develop the eye-to-hand coordination needed to hit balls pitched to them during a game. The batting practice device has a combination of universal joints, elastic material, and springs located between the handle and the practice ball to help absorb most of the energy transferred to the practice ball after it has been hit by a bat. Applications may include, but are not limited to, baseball, softball, wiffle ball and cricket. It is contemplated for the batting practice device to be used by inexperienced players, as well as college and professional players.
