Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing mono-iodo benzene with a transiodination reaction, and more preferably a method of preparing mono-iodo benzene including a step of performing transiodination of a reactant including benzene and at least a multi-iodo benzene selected from the group consisting of di-iodo benzene and tri-iodo benzene with an HY or HBeta type of zeolite having a Si/Al molar ratio of 10 to 100 as a catalyst. The method of the present invention has an advantage that iodine is recovered from by-products including m-di-iodo benzene, o-di-iodo benzene, and tri-iodo benzene obtained in the process of preparing p-di-iodo benzene, thereby resulting in minimizing the loss of iodine.

Abstract: A skin closure instrument and method of use are disclosed. Broadly a tool grasps skin edges and applies glue evenly in rapid and reproducible fashion, thereby enabling a single healthcare provider to perform the procedure. In the preferred embodiment, the instrument is packaged in a sterile container for a single use. The glue may be packaged along with the instrument, or may be added to a reservoir. The system is applicable to both small and large wounds, and is easy to manipulate by a single operator, resulting in a rapid consistent closure of wound edges.
Abstract: A shower handle water supply diverter system includes a water supply in fluid communication with a hose. A handle sprayer is in fluid communication with and extends from the hose. A water diverter is provided within the handle sprayer and is in fluid communication with the showerhead. The water diverter can be operated in three modes: handle sprayer only water expulsion, shower head only water expulsion, and simultaneous handle sprayer and shower head water expulsion. By placement of the first hose and second hose in proximity to provide thermal contact therebetween, stagnant water in one hose at ambient temperature exchanges heat with water flow at a particular temperature in a second hose to change stagnant water temperature towards the temperature of the water flow.
Abstract: Disclosed is a multilayer structure wherein a first layer of a first material having an outer surface and a refracted index between 2 and 4 extends across an outer surface of a second layer having a refractive index between 1 and 3. The multilayer stack has a reflective band of less than 200 nanometers when viewed from angles between 0° and 80° and can be used to reflect a narrow range of electromagnetic radiation in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectrum ranges. In some instances, the reflection band of the multilayer structure is less than 100 nanometers. In addition, the multilayer structure can have a quantity defined as a range to mid-range ratio percentage of less than 2%.

Abstract: A process for making a hydrogenated carbon material is provided which includes forming a mixture of a carbon source, particularly a carbonaceous material, and a hydrogen source. The mixture is reacted under reaction conditions such that hydrogen is generated and/or released from the hydrogen source, an amorphous diamond-like carbon is formed, and at least a portion of the generated and/or released hydrogen associates with the amorphous diamond-like carbon, thereby forming a hydrogenated carbon material. A hydrogenated carbon material including a hydrogen carbon clathrate is characterized by evolution of molecular hydrogen at room temperature at atmospheric pressure in particular embodiments of methods and compositions according to the present invention.
Abstract: A process for the plasma deposition of a layer of a microcrystalline semiconductor material is carried out by energizing a process gas which includes a precursor of the semiconductor material and a diluent with electromagnetic energy so as to create a plasma therefrom. The plasma deposits a layer of the microcrystalline semiconductor material onto the substrate. The concentration of the diluent in the process gas is varied as a function of the thickness of the layer of microcrystalline semiconductor material which has been deposited. Also disclosed is the use of the process for the preparation of an N-I-P type photovoltaic device.
Abstract: A bumper panel assembly for use in a vehicle including an upper bumper panel and a lower bumper panel attached to the upper bumper panel. The bumper panel assembly is formed without cut outs and walls so as to eliminate the need of using lifters to form the bumper panel assembly, and thus reducing manufacturing costs. The upper bumper panel includes a groove extending along the width of the panel, and the lower bumper has a first edge seated along the groove so as to define a styling line. The lower panel further includes a second edge spaced apart from the first edge. A seal is disposed on the second edge and interconnects the lower bumper panel to the vehicle body when the vehicle bumper is assembled onto the vehicle so as to enhance the aerodynamic characteristics of the bumper panel assembly.

Abstract: A linear actuator includes permanent magnet annuli arranged about an armature core for axial movement in a tubular stator upon energization of coils arranged in concentric association with the armature. The stator has portions extending radially inwards of the coils and towards one another beneath each coil, which define a spacing between the coil and the armature. The annuli have a substantially radially magnetized structure and the coils are configured for single phase power input. In one embodiment (FIG. 6), two pairs of spaced annuli are arranged on the core, wherein the axial length of the outermost annuli is half the axial length of the inner annuli.

Abstract: An improved seat assembly in which the first and second pairs of seatback and floor mounted latches associated with first and second sides of prior dump and tumble assemblies are substituted by an improved design incorporating a single reinforced lock and release seatback latch and either a single or pair of floor latches arranged on opposite sides of the seat. Additional supports include a free pivoting and secondary seatback latch, as well as an optional floor supported riser assembly in lieu of the second floor latch and which are positioned at alternating inboard/outboard seatback and floor locations of the seat assembly. In cooperation with the redesigned fully functional latches, the free pivot seatback and optional floor riser latches provide a cost advantageous design exhibiting reduced part count.

Abstract: A support vector machine with wavelet kernel was developed for accurate modeling of nonlinear systems. A method of providing an optimized model of a nonlinear system includes using a support vector machine (SVM) having a wavelet kernel, where support vectors include a family of multidimensional wavelets. Training the SVM allows optimization of the number of support vectors, the weights of the support vectors, and the translation factors of the support vectors. Use of a novel linear programming approach reduces computational demands required for training, allowing optimized support vectors to give an optimized model of the nonlinear system. Further, on-line retraining is possible, so that the model can be adapted to changing conditions.

Abstract: A novel, energy efficient process of producing jet fuel is disclosed herein. The process is based on utilizing a medium chain fatty acid source such as cuphea oil, which precludes the need for high-energy fatty acid chain cracking to achieve the shorter molecules needed for jet fuels and other fuels with low-temperature flow requirements. In an embodiment, a process for producing a jet fuel comprises providing a medium chain fatty acid source. The method also comprises cleaving the one or more medium chain fatty acid groups from the glycerides to form glycerol and one or more free fatty acids. The method further comprises decarboxylating the one or more medium chain fatty acids to form one or more hydrocarbons for the production of the jet fuel.

Abstract: An audio/video production system is implemented on a PC-based platform, preferably utilizing various forms of removable magnetic, optical, or magneto-optical storage media. Specially modified cameras or other sources provide digitally data-compressed audio and video program materials in two formats, a first format having a higher data-compression ratio and intended for use in off-line systems to develop edit decision lists, and a second format having a lower data-compression ratio and intended for use in on-line editing and to produce the final representations of the programs. Off-line editing decisions may thus be developed on a PC using removable storage media, and final representations of the programs may be produced on-line in accordance with stationary-head or rotary-head digital-tape-based formats, such as DAT, 6-mm or 8-mm tapes. In an alternative embodiment, automatic and unattended editing, or extended program playback of more than 40 hours duration of digital video, is available.
