Abstract: Disclosed are fusion proteins, polynucleotides that encode the disclosed fusion proteins, and methods for expressing and autoprocessing of the disclosed fusion proteins to obtain a target protein. The disclosed fusion proteins include an autoproteolytic cysteine protease fused to a heterologous polypeptide, which may be isolated as the target protein. Preferably, the protease activity of the cysteine protease is inducible. Suitable autoproteolytic cysteine proteases for the fusion proteins include the cysteine protease of the Vibrio cholerae RTX toxin.
Abstract: A method for communicating data in a wireless control area network, where the wireless control area network includes one or more sensor nodes configured to facilitate acquisition of patient data and an access coordinator configured to facilitate acquisition of the patient data from the one or more sensor nodes, is presented. The method includes creating a correlation between one or more poll packets from an access coordinator and time of arrival of data at one or more sensor nodes. Systems and computer-readable medium that afford functionality of the type defined by this method is also contemplated in conjunction with the present technique.
Abstract: The present application includes a multi-function throttle shaft that combines the motor speed-control and the motor direction-control in one tiller handle. Co-functionally, the throttle shaft is rotated clockwise/counterclockwise to control motor speed while intuitively allowing the user to push the throttle in for reverse direction and pull the throttle out for forward direction or vise-versa, based on whether the trolling motor is mounted on the transom or bow of a boat. In either case, the handle is always moved in the same direction that the operator wants the boat to travel.
Abstract: A storage assembly adapted to be secured to a work surface includes an enclosure defining an interior, wherein the enclosure is adapted to be secured around an opening in the work surface. A platform is disposed within the enclosure, and a cover is connected to the enclosure and configured to enclose the interior of the enclosure. The cover is movable between a closed position and an open position, wherein the cover in the closed position forms a top wall for the enclosure, and wherein the cover in the open position exposes the platform. A movement control arrangement is connected between the enclosure, the platform and the cover. The movement control arrangement and the enclosure have cooperating guide slot structure for receiving and guiding the platform, and enabling raising and lowering of the platform within the enclosure in response to movement of the cover between the open and closed positions.

Abstract: A collapsible access tower has a chassis 10 supporting a pair of road wheels 11 and outriggers 16,17 to impart stability when in use, and a pair of extensible multi-section columns 26,50 carrying a platform 35. A section 27 of one column 26 is rigidly connected to the chassis and another section 33 of that column to the platform 35. The other column is configured as an extendible ladder 50 one section 51 of which is hinged to the chassis 10 and another section 52 of which is hinged to the platform 35. When the platform is in its lowermost setting, the hinged connections of the two sections 51,52 of the ladder 50 are co-axial so that the ladder may be pivoted to a transit setting. A winch arrangement 39 is associated with column 26 to allow raising and lowering of the platform 35.
Abstract: A targeted drug delivery nanocarrier and a method of forming the same is disclosed herein. The targeted drug delivery nanocarrier includes a plurality of amphipathic molecules forming a carrier particle having a plurality of drug molecules contained therein. A targeted landscape phage protein assembly is complexed to the carrier particle preferably using the unique method disclosed herein. The targeted landscape phage protein assembly displays a binding peptide that is selected to specifically and selectively bind to a target site. The method for forming targeted drug delivery nanocarriers includes the steps of obtaining a plurality of bacteriophage displaying a binding peptide for a desired target site, treating the bacteriophage with a denaturing agent, mixing the treated bacteriophage with a plurality of carrier particles and purifying the mixture to obtain a plurality of targeted drug delivery nanocarriers.
Abstract: The present invention, in different aspects and embodiments, provides nucleic acid amplification and detection methods that are both sensitive and fast. In various aspects there are disclosed amplification methods employing different combinations of primers to which can achieve exponential amplification and strand displacement, such as to generate a more than two fold increase of the amount of a target nucleic acid sequence during repeated cycles, while additionally permitting the production of single stranded products. Also provided are detection systems and kits.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring fluid balance status of a subject are disclosed. A hemoglobin measure indicative of hemoglobin concentration in the blood of a subject and at least one physiological parameter responsive to blood volume changes in the subject are determined and concurrent behavior of the hemoglobin measure and the at least one physiological parameter is indicated to a user, thereby to give an indication of fluid balance status of the subject. The cause and/or reliability of the fluid balance status may also be indicated.
Abstract: A direct contact steam injection heater that includes a steam diffuser having a plurality of steam diffusion holes that are selectively exposed by a regulating member to control the amount of steam used to heat a liquid. The regulating member is movable within the steam diffuser and the steam diffuser includes a seating member to prevent the flow of steam from the diffuser when the regulating member is in a completely closed, seated position. At least one sealing members selectively exposes the steam diffusion holes in the discharge region of the steam diffuser when the regulating member moves between the open and closed positions. The spacing of the steam diffusion holes along the steam diffuser can be varied depending upon the desired resolution of the steam released as the regulating member moves between its fully closed and fully open position.
Abstract: An actuator arrangement comprises a pair of symmetrically loaded screw actuators driven from a common motor through respective drive shafts, and a protection arrangement arranged to avoid the continued application of full motor drive to one of the actuators in the event of the occurrence of a jam condition associated therewith.
Abstract: An inertial gas-liquid separator and method is provided, including variable orifice jet nozzle structure having a variable orifice area dependent upon axial movement of a plunger relative to a housing sleeve, and in another embodiment having first and second flow branches, with the first flow branch being continuously open, and the second flow branch having a variable flow controller controlling flow therethrough.

Abstract: A liquid cooled internal combustion engine has a cooling system with a coolant liquid flow passage having a drain port and a clog-preventing drain plug having an anti-clog protrusion finger extending through the drain port and into the coolant liquid flow passage when the clog-preventing drain plug is in its closed position. The anti-clog protrusion finger leaves a hole in a clog layer of debris and/or engine combustion products upon removal of the anti-clog protrusion finger from the coolant liquid flow passage upon moving the clog-preventing drain plug to its open position.
