  • Patent number: 5092235
Abstract: A roll type fixing and developing apparatus in which sheet material to be treated is passed through a high pressure nip defined by a pair of rollers and a roller for such apparatus, is described. The roller includes an elongated tubular shell with a pressure applying external surface, an elongated core positioned within the tubular shell, and an elastomeric material disposed between the core and shell to support the shell on the core. The core may be of a number of configurations and may increase in transverse cross-sectional dimension from the respective ends of the core toward the center of the core. The core may taper continuously or in discrete steps from its center toward its first and second ends. In addition, the core may have a longitudinal cross section with a crown in the shape of a beam deflection curve for a simply supported, uniformly constant cross-section beam. The shell may be similarly configured along its interior surface.

  • Patent number: 5036266
Abstract: A system (11) for monitoring and controlling the movement of a mass (12) along a predetermined path (14) by a motor-driven flexible member (20) is provided to modulate the motor drive output so that the actual velocity of the mass corresponds more closely to the desired target velocity profile. The system preferably employs a dual loop servo system wherein an outer servo loop uses conventional linear encoding techniques and is supplemented by an inner servo loop utilizing a sensor (27) that detects a physical characteristic of the flexible member representative of the relative velocity of the mass. Relative velocity transducers utilizing magnetic circuits and operating according to variable reluctance principles for generating relative mass velocity signals directly are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4950326
Abstract: Removal of dissolved copper from solution according to the present invention involves treatment of waste solutions such as electroless copper overflow solutions with aluminum particles under reaction conditions promoting precipitation of dissolved copper from solution as metallic copper. Copper plating solutions having high concentrations of dissolved copper are inactivated in overflow reservoir (12) by addition of an inactivating agent from reservoir (14) to prevent plating of metallic copper onto vessels and conduits during collection, storage and/or transport of the solution. Inactivation of the copper plating solution is followed by precipitation of dissolved copper from solution as metallic copper in reaction vessel (20) by addition of aluminum particles from reservoir (24).

  • Patent number: 4779691
Abstract: The present invention creates a cross-country vehicle that is characterized by the combination of two hydraulically operated leg units at the front of the vehicle with two wheels at the rear of the vehicle, it being possible to adjust the height of these wheels, which are supported on longitudinal arms, hydraulically. Motion of the vehicle is effected by appropriate movements made by means of hand levers and amplifiers. An on-board computer automatically provides for a constant and near horizontal position of the vehicle cab and constantly carries out calculations to ensure that when one leg is raised the position of the center of gravity is at that moment within the three support points. The decisive point of the invention lies in the fact that the advantages of leg units are combined with the advantages of wheels. The command of the leg elements is greatly simplified since there are only two such units.

  • Patent number: 4768345
Abstract: Continuous thermal energy delivery from a cyclically active thermal energy source having an ON period substantially exceeding an OFF period by passing working fluid through a central working fluid conduit passing through a containment means forming an annular chamber therewith, the annular chamber substantially filled with a liquid-solid phase change thermal energy storage material having a high specific heat in the liquid phase. During insolation, thermal energy superheats the thermal energy storage material and is conducted therethrough to heat the working fluid. During eclipse the superheated thermal energy storage material transmits heat to the working fluid and formation of solid phase of the thermal energy storage material releases heat of fusion adjacent the working fluid conduit for additional supply of heat to the working fluid. A thermal gradient is maintained across the thickness of the thermal energy storage material.
