Patent number: 6615232Abstract: A mobile agent is provided with ancestor gene information and self gene information. The self gene information is encrypted information which indicates how many generations the mobile agent is descendant from the original agent. When the mobile agent creates a clone (creates a child agent), it generates gene information of its self generation+1 and implants it in the child agent. The mobile agent moving on the network and encountering another mobile agent on a same place obtains gene information from that agent, converts the obtained gene information by a predetermined algorithm, and determines if the agents are descended from the same ancestor.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1999Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Toshihiro Suzuki, Kazuhiro Minami

Patent number: 6612490Abstract: An Extended SmartCard file system is proposed which resides in one flat file within the ISO file system of a SmartCard. A second file containing user information like size of the file system, owner information, and key fields is used to configure the file system driver dynamically. However, this file may be omitted if the file system driver is statically initialized. The nested file system of the present invention has the advantage that files can be fully dynamically accessed and edited without affecting the underlying ISO file layout, i.e. the outer fixed structure of the outer file system. Further, data integrity and consistency are achieved by a transaction oriented commit concept. Additionally, all security mechanisms of the underlying SmartCards in terms of data protection are fully maintained and are enhanced in cases of power loss or unexpected card removal as two distinct directories are provided for data management.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1999Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: International Business Mahines CorporationInventors: Dirk Herrendoerfer, Robert Sulzmann, Martin Welsch

Patent number: 6603744Abstract: A wireless hub, connected to the USB bus of a computer, and a wireless port, connected to a USB interface of a peripheral device, are provided, and wireless communication is performed between the two. The wireless hub performs communication with the computer by converting a USB packet routed to a device into a wireless signal, and a wireless signal received from a device into a USB packet. The wireless port attached to each device also converts a wireless signal into a USB packet and vice versa. While it is normal for a plurality of wireless ports to be connected to a single wireless hub, an arrangement of one wireless hub and a corresponding single wireless port is also possible. A wireless hub and a wireless port each have a device identifier assigned to them, and in the USB-wireless conversion, a non-specific destination identified by a USB address and bus topology is converted into a device identifier. Inter-host communication is enabled by using the device identifier.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1998Date of Patent: August 5, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Akihiko Mizutani, Hiroshi Ishikawa, Amrit Pant

Patent number: 6591214Abstract: A wrap test for a communication interface unit used for a computer, etc. When a wrap tool 40 is connected to a SCSI device 10, a signal (TEMPWR) is output from an output device 38 to SCSI connectors 22 and 24 through a Y-type cable 14, then wrapped in the wrap tool 40 and returned to a SCSI controller 12 through resistors 28 and 30 as a signal (PSCSIWRAP) to recognize the wrap tool 40. Because the non-grounded end of a resistor 26 is connected to an input terminal of the SCSI controller 12, the resistors 28 and 30 are connected in parallel. The potential of the signal (PSCSIWRAP) is stabilized by the resistors 26, 28 and 30. If a single wrap tool is connected to the SCSI device 10, the potential of the signal (PSCSIWRAP) is stabilized by the resistors 26 and 28 or 30.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2001Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Tsuyoshi Miyamura, Tomoaki Kimura

Patent number: 4600854Abstract: The rotator comprises a piezoelectric bender (4) pivotally supported (2, 3) at one end and carrying a means for being clamped (6) to which a "payload" (7) may be attached. The bender (4) has split electrodes to keep its ends parallel when energized. Normally engaging the means for being clamped (6) are clamping members (15, 17) attached to a pair of piezoelectric benders (10, 11) which are fixed in supports (12, 13) resting on a base plate (1).With the pair of benders (10, 11) energized, the means for being clamped (6) is released and energization of the central bender (4) results in the lifting of the payload (7) by one step. The means for being clamped (6) is then re-arrested and its pivot (2, 3) released by means of actuating the ends of bimorphs (10, 11) associated with clamping members 14 and 16 and the central bender (4) is permitted to stretch. The rotator is then prepared for the next step of rotation about the pivot (2). This embodiment permits rotation through about 15 degrees.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1984Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: International Business Machines Corp.Inventors: Johannes G.
