Patent number: 4670660Abstract: An optical liquid level sensor utilizing both a prismatic member for the light refraction when immersed in and surrounded by a liquid and its effects for the indication of the presence and absence, selectively, of the liquid level. This level indication is provided in the subject case through a target plate bearing letter codes and legends, respectively, which are recognized and standardized in this trade and which become visible at the onset and for the duration of an acceptable liquid level situation; otherwise; a messageless image appears in the sensor. The illuminated target plate allows also for the observation of the color and any color change of the liquid and the taking of remedial actions.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1985Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: Aeroquip CorporationInventors: Harry J. Patent number: 4657671Abstract: A device using intentionally introduced centrifugal force to direct particles suspended in a liquid to peripherally arranged contact members and to detain them there through the static pressure caused by the peripherally moving liquid. The device separates the ferrous, magnetizable, from the nonferrous, not magnetizable, particles by providing a magnetic capturing unit having a diameter smaller than that of the aforementioned contact member arrangement, so that ferrous particles will be retained by magnetism and so indicated, while nonferrous ones will be detained by the radially more outwardly located contact members and indicated accordingly. Individual indications of, especially nonferrous particle accumulations, are provided for at least two particle magnitude ranges.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1984Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Aeroquip CorporationInventors: Dietrich W. Patent number: 4653832Abstract: A cover and integral straining relief mechanism for an electrical cable multiprong connector, including a two-piece cover utilizing identical and interconnecting halves assembling as a whole connector, mount, and cover. A strain relief mechanism utilizing a cubical insert is included. The cubical insert is a plunger-like mechanism containing teeth-like undulation along its side which interact in a ratcheting fashion with mating undulations within the connector cover. The plunger is inserted into at least one opening in the connector and comes into contact with a cable entering the connector through the remaining and unused opening. The plunger comes into contact with the insulation about said electrical cable such as to hold the cable securely within the connector, thereby providing strain relief action.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1985Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Inventor: Michael A. Patent number: 4273898Abstract: A novel composition comprises a block copolymer of a polyetheramide, e.g., poly-(4,7-dioxadecamethylene adipamide) and a random copolymer resulting from the polymerization of an ether free polyamide precursor, e.g., hexamethylenediamine salt of adipic acid and a precursor of a polyetheramide. The block copolymer can be more easily processed into useful articles such as fiber and film because it differs structurally from a corresponding block copolymer of homopolymers of polyetheramide and polyamide.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1979Date of Patent: June 16, 1981Assignee: Suntech, Inc.Inventors: Edward M. Patent number: 4272362Abstract: Oxygen compounds are removed, e.g., by solvent extraction, from a shale oil prior to its hydrogenation. As a result, the amount of hydrogen consumed during subsequent hydrogenation to achieve a given level of nitrogen for the shale oil is less than that which would occur if the oxygen compounds were not removed from the shale oil. Removal of the nitrogen is necessary to avoid adverse effects on subsequent shale oil processing steps such as catalytic cracking.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1980Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Assignee: Suntech, Inc.Inventors: Abraham Schneider, Elmer J. Hollstein, Edward J. Janoski, Edward G. Scheibel

Patent number: 4248661Abstract: During the labeling of a vial, mislabeling can occur. The unwanted label is cleanly and economically removed by forcing the vial through a novel collet-cutter. The cutter has at least two cutting edges and two slots. The slots permit expansion of the diameter of the cutting edges during the passage of a vial. At least one of the edges of the slots is outwardly sharpened. Further, its cutting edges are at an angle to the incoming vial and have an internal diameter whereby the label is removed completely and cleanly when the vial is forced through the cutter.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1979Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Assignee: Suntech, Inc.Inventors: Arnold M. Bleiman, Gordon A. Russell

Patent number: 4231858Abstract: Whole crude shale oil is contacted with a suitable catalyst, e.g., cobalt molybdate on alumina, and hydrogen within a temperature range of about 600.degree. F.-850.degree. F. and a pressure range of about 200 psig-5000 psig until a substantial amount of nitrogen compounds contained in the oil are converted to at least basic nitrogen compounds. Hydrogen consumption is high, about 700-3000 SCF/Bbl of fresh oil charged. The contacted oil, containing basic nitrogen compounds in the oil, formed by the hydrogen contacting, is reacted with dry HCl and resulting reaction product is removed from the oil. The reaction product can be converted into hydrogen and HCl for use in the process. As a result of the severe hydrogen contacting and the HCl treatment, a major amount of the whole crude shale oil can be converted to jet fuel.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1978Date of Patent: November 4, 1980Assignee: Suntech, Inc.Inventors: Walter H. Patent number: 4229612Abstract: The removal of color bodies from an olefinic or saturated endo-endo hexacyclic homodimer of norbornadiene or mixtures thereof is accomplished by the use of a serpentine clay. Also acid bentonite clay or a montmorillonite clay can be used to remove the color bodies from the saturated dimer. The saturated dimer has a high density and a high heat of combustion making it useful as a missile fuel. Removal of the color bodies avoids possible catalyst poisoning in the hydrogenation of the olefinic to the saturated dimer. Also removal of the color bodies from the saturated dimer eliminates the possible problem of a material precipitating out on engine turbine blades and causing maintenance or operational problems.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1979Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Assignee: Suntech, Inc.Inventors: Lewis W. Patent number: 4210487Abstract: Synthetic thermoplastic polymer fibers are prepared by extruding a foamed fibrillated sheet of a normally solid synthetic thermoplastic polymer, attenuating the molten foamed sheet as it is extruded and applying either a cutting and/or a shearing action to the solid attenuated sheet to cause it to break down into short fibers containing numerous fibrils. The polymer is polypropylene, polyethylene or a mixture of polystyrene and polypropylene or polyethylene in which the mixture contains more than 40 weight percent of the polyolefin. These short fibers can be blended with natural pulp. The resulting blend can be wet laid to form a coarse paper and then formed into a final paper product by application of heat and pressure. The resulting paper has certain superior properties.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1977Date of Patent: July 1, 1980Assignee: Sun Oil Company of PennsylvaniaInventor: Gary L. Driscoll
