  • Patent number: 6131345
Abstract: A garage door window facade is constructed from a flat panel having a plurality of apertures shaped to resemble small window openings. In a first embodiment, a dark-colored backing is positioned behind the flat panel and is visible through the apertures to create the illusion of a window. In a second embodiment, a layer of transparent or translucent material is sandwiched between the flat panel and the dark-colored backing to give an enhanced appearance of a window opening. The assembly is rigidly secured to a standard garage door by bolts, screws, adhesive or the like to give the illusion that the garage door has windows. The apparatus does not protrude far from the exterior surface of the garage door so that the apparatus does not interfere with the opening or closing of the garage door. An aesthetic molding may be positioned around the peripheral edges of the assembly for framing purposes, or the flat panel may be provided with built-in molding.

  • Patent number: 6103242
Abstract: A method of treating diabetes in a patient comprising the steps of administering a first quantity of an ingestible medium of coccoloba uvifera leaf extract to the patient, monitoring the patient's change in serum glucose level, and modifying, if needed, the first quantity of the ingestible medium of coccoloba uvifera leaf extract wherein the patient's serum glucose level is reduced to normal levels. Normal levels are generally considered to be about 110 to 130 mg serum glucose per liter. Accordingly, monitoring and adjustment in the dosages of the ingestible medium of coccoloba uvifera leaf extract are increased until the patient's serum glucose level is reduced to 130 mg per liter or less. The patient's serum glucose level may be monitored daily or twice daily depending on the severity of the patient's condition. While the ingestible medium of coccoloba uvifera leaf may be ingested daily, dosages may be staggered to several times a week provided the patient's condition is properly monitored.

  • Patent number: 6023223
Abstract: An early warning detection and notification network for monitoring environmental conditions comprising a plurality of remotely located environmental sensors having a communications uplink to one or more earth orbiting satellites or other wireless transmission means, a downlink interface to a database server having one or more data tables holding environmental data and a communications interface between the database server and the Internet wherein the sensors periodically upload environmental condition data to the satellite, the satellite downloads the condition data to the database server, the communications interface provides access to the condition data through the Internet. End-users access the system through the Internet and retrieve real-time data on various environmental conditions based on a database query. The query results may be grouped by the geographic region, the type of environmental data or a combination of both.
