  • Patent number: 4923039
Abstract: A timing mechanism (10) is provided in which input gear (11) is fixed on one shaft (12) for operating one system such as a door to move between two positions. A differential nut (14) is also provided on the shaft (12) for axial movement therealong. The differential nut (14) meshes with a first translating nut drive gear (2) rotatably arranged on a second shaft (19) which also contains a second translating nut drive gear (36) rotatably arranged thereon. The second gear (36) meshes with a differential nut (32) axially movable along a third shaft (26) for actuating a second system such as a pallet between two positions. The timing mechanism (10) is utilized in a system in which the output of each differential nut (14,32) is caused to operate a brake so that only one system will be in operation and the brake in the other system will not be released until the one system has completed its movement to a desired position.

  • Patent number: 4924411
Abstract: In entering a text in a document processing apparatus such as a word processor, an operator directs the document processing apparatus to implement a shading process for an intended portion in the text. In response to the operator's instruction, shading edit specifiers are inserted in the text. The text including the shading edit specifiers is stored temporarily in an external document file storage. When the text is read out of the document file storage and outputted through an output unit, the shading process is implemented for the text portion enclosed by the shading edit specifiers in the text. Even if the text portion between the shading edit specifiers is revised through a re-editting process for the text by the operator, the shading process takes place invariably for the revised text portion.

  • Patent number: 4923364
Abstract: A fast axial flow gas laser apparatus comprising an at least essentially closed loop defining a flow path for a laser gas, an arrangement for exciting gas flowing in the loop of the apparatus to cause the gas to lase, and a regenerative compressor for flowing gas through the closed loop along the flow path. The compressor is capable of operating with a pressure ratio sufficient to flow the gas along at least a portion of the loop at a speed at least half the speed of sound in the gas with inlet pressures of only a small fraction of an atmosphere. The uniform discharge pressure of the compressor results in a uniform laser discharge or output. A positive pressure fluid pressure seal prevents lubricant at a bearing support for the impeller shaft of the compressor from moving to the impeller and possibly contaminating the laser gas being compressed thereby and also prevents surrounding air from contaminating the laser gas.

  • Patent number: 4924439
Abstract: In order to provide high speed and low power consumption, a semiconductor integrated circuit is constructed to utilize both CMOS elements and bipolar transistors. The bipolar transistors are used in the output portions to take advantage of their speed of operation to allow rapid charging and discharging of output lines. In the meantime, the principal operating portions of the circuit use CMOS elements of low power consumption. This arrangement is particularly advantageous in memory circuits.

  • Patent number: 4923030
Abstract: A device for generating acoustic waves in a well by causing a mass falling inside a body to strike a target element and to transmit impacts to the surrounding geological formations by anchoring the body in the well by retractable shoes. A tractive force exerted on the support cable from the surface, after anchorage of the body, causes a support element to move upwards which takes the target element and the mass with it. When the mass is hydraulically locked in its set position, the cable is slackened so that the target element and the support element can come back to the bottom position. In this position, the support element presses on a pusher element which actuates hydraulic locking and releases the mass.

  • Patent number: 4922119
Abstract: A starting system for an aircraft propulsion engine. An electrical motor (62 or 122) is mounted within a case (14) in which first and second hydraulic units (102, 104) are operated as part of a constant speed drive transmission. The electric motor accelerates a motor-generator set (24) to a velocity near the synchronous speed. The motor-generator set is coupled to the drive shaft (20) by operation of the hydraulic units as a variable torque link. The electric motor functions both as a heat source of hydraulic fluid contained within the hydraulic pump and motor case during extreme low temperature conditions at which point the starting torque of the motor is initially insufficient to cause rotation of the output shaft and to further accelerate the motor-generator set up to a rotational velocity at which the motor-generator set may be operated synchronously at which the motor-generator set is coupled to the drive shaft (120) by operation of the hydraulic units as a variable torque link to rotate the engine.

  • Patent number: 4921345
Abstract: Light equipment is provided for irradiating the measuring object and forming light spot on it through the collimate lens. Reflected light from the measuring object is incident to the spatial filter through the objective lens for detecting the incidence position of the reflected light. A distance measuring circuit calculates contiuously the distance (d) between the objective lens and the measuring object by optical triangulation based on the output signal from the spatial filter. The frequency detecting circuit is connected to the spatial filter. When the sought running speed is V, the pitch between each equivalent light receiving element p, and the magnification of the optical image of the measuring object M, the frequency detecting circuit measures the frequency f which is given by the formula of F=MV/p. The calculator calculates the velocity V based on the output signal from the distance measuring circuit and on the output signal from the frequency detecting circuit.

  • Patent number: 4922377
Abstract: This invention relates to a module which mounts a plurality of semiconductor devices and to a module substrate that interconnect the semiconductor devices. This invention has the testing and engineering change pads on the underside of the substrate. This arrangement results in the advantages of: providing a sufficient area for the testing and engineering change pads; improving the package density of semiconductor devices, which in turn leads to higher computation speed; and eliminating the need for a special cooling system during the module testing, simplifying the process of testing. Furthermore, since the signal joint terminals to the semiconductor chips are provided on the surface of the substrate on which the semiconductor chips are mounted and since the power bus joint terminals are provided around the chips on the semiconductor chip-mounting surface of the substrate, it is possible to realize a high density package with high reliability.

  • Patent number: 4920619
Abstract: A pin of a retracting or ejecting pyrotechnical power element preferably mounted on the side of a belt lock facing away from the engaged belt is connected to a trigger key in such a way that, upon initiation of the charge of the pyrotechnical power element as a result of a threshold of a sensor in the vehicle being exceeded, due to an occurrence to be sensed, i.e. an impact upon collision and, after a required delay, the trigger key is depressed completely--and remains depressed. The required delay between the occurrence and the instant of belt separation can be effected electronically or, quite especially preferably, integrated in the pyrotechnical power element by means of a pyrotechnical transmission path.
