Abstract: In a level shift circuit, when a power-source voltage variation dV/dt of a high voltage side occurs and influences on a logic level of a circuit, the passing through of a malfunction signal is masked and prevented in the first and second logic circuits, by a signal from a time-constant generation circuit or a portion where a power voltage variation occurs in advance, by utilizing the fact that this variation occurs both at a set side and a reset side. When the power source voltage variation dV/dt is generated at a high voltage side, sufficient allowance in the timing of this masking prevents an erroneous signal from being transmitted to a flip-flop, and a control signal is transmitted from a low voltage side circuit not giving malfunction to a high voltage side circuit, even when there is a production variation in each element in semiconductor processes.
Abstract: Signal lines which provide electric connections from an internal circuit formed on a main surface of a semiconductor chip and including, for example, MIS transistor to protective elements constituted by, for example, diodes are drawn out from outlet ports formed on wiring lines disposed between the protective elements, and a signal line region occupied by the signal lines is provided over the protective elements and under electrode pads. A wiring region on the main surface of the semiconductor chip can be enlarged without increasing the chip area.
Abstract: Productivity is to be improved in assembling a semiconductor integrated circuit device. A matrix substrate is provided and semiconductor chips are disposed on a first heating stage, then the matrix substrate is disposed above the semiconductor chips on the first heating stage, subsequently the semiconductor chips and the matrix substrate are bonded to each other temporarily by thermocompression bonding while heating the chips directly by the first heating stage, thereafter the temporarily bonded matrix substrate is disposed on a second heating stage adjacent to the first heating stage, and then on the second heating stage the semiconductor chips are thermocompression-bonded to the matrix substrate while being heated directly by the second heating stage.

Abstract: To provide an image display which is capable of preventing fracturing of a substrate which is attributable to a substrate expansion arising from heating or humidification during a manufacture process, impact in use, or distortion when curved display is conducted, a connection failure between a semiconductor chip and a wiring terminal which are mounted on the substrate, and crack occurring in the substrate in the vicinity of an area where the semiconductor chip is mounted, with no need to add members and with no limit of pulling the wiring around. An image display part is formed on one surface of a flexible substrate, and a groove with a depth not reaching a thickness of the substrate is continuously or intermittently defined in another surface of the substrate.
Abstract: To solve lowering of transmittance due to a pixel end domain, provided is a liquid crystal display device, including: a liquid crystal layer; and a substrate including pixel electrodes and, a common electrode disposed between the pixel electrodes and the liquid crystal layer and having a slit which stretches over adjacent pixel electrodes, in which: the slit has a first stretching direction at a center of one pixel electrode, and a second stretching direction in a gap between two adjacent pixel electrodes, different from the first stretching direction; in the slit, a portion where the first stretching direction is switched to the second stretching direction is located on one pixel electrode; and, with respect to an alignment direction, a first azimuth toward the first stretching direction and a second azimuth toward the second stretching direction have the same rotation direction, and the second azimuth is larger than the first azimuth.
Abstract: An optical pickup device includes a semiconductor laser for emitting laser light, an objective lens for irradiating luminous flux emitted from the semiconductor laser to an optical disc, a branching element having a plurality of regions for branching luminous flux reflected from the optical disc to a plurality of fluxes, and a photodetector having a plurality of light receiving parts which receive luminous flux branched by said branching element. Luminous flux which enters at least two regions arrayed along a direction which is made substantially coincident with a tangential direction of the optical disc in regard to substantially a center of the branching element is arranged along a direction which is made substantially coincident with a radial direction of the optical disc on the photodetector.
Abstract: Provided is a capacity monitoring method used for a computer system including one or more application computers, one or more storage systems, and a management computer. The storage system includes a physical disk and a disk controller. In the capacity monitoring method, a storage area of the physical disk belongs to a storage pool, the storage system provides a volume, and the management computer monitors a used capacity of the storage pool, judges whether or not a storage capacity required for operating the application computer for a predetermined time period is present in the storage pool based upon an increasing speed of the used capacity of the storage pool to be monitored, and executes a predetermined process operation when the storage capacity required for operating the application computer for the predetermined time period is not present in the storage pool. Accordingly, the storage pool is properly operated and managed.
Abstract: A polyimide resin composed of a repeating unit represented by the following formula (1): or composed of the repeating unit represented by the formula (1) and at least one repeating unit represented by the following formula (2): wherein X is the same as defined in the specification, exhibits a good thermoplastic property, a high solubility in solvents and a good heat resistance as well as a low water absorption and an excellent adhesion property. The polyimide resin is useful as the material for the adhesive layer of a metal-clad laminate which is composed of an insulating substrate, a metal layer and an adhesive layer disposed between the insulating substrate and the metal layer.
Abstract: An optical pickup device divides signal light so as to detect the divided signal light. For example, a photodetector can include a region “A” and another region “B.” Among diffracted light diffracted from a track on an optical disc, only zeroth-order diffraction light enters region “A”, whereas the zeroth-order diffraction light, + first-order diffraction light, and ? first-order diffraction light enter region “B”. A focusing error signal from the photodetector is produced based upon a signal detected by the photodetector, whereas a tracking error signal is produced based upon signals detected from the regions “A” and “B.” A stable focusing error signal and a stable tracking error signal can be detected with respect to a dual layer optical disc, or a multi layer optical disc.

Abstract: In a microwave irradiation apparatus, an applicator portion has an interior space for housing an object to be irradiated. A first microwave irradiation system outputs a first microwave to the interior space in a first mode so as to generate a large electric field and a small magnetic field at a specific place of the interior space. A second microwave irradiation system outputs a second microwave having a polarization plane crossing a polarization plane of the first microwave to the interior space in a second mode so as to generate a large magnetic field and small electric field at the specific place of the interior space.

Abstract: An E-type polarizing layer is provided between a pair of orthogonally oriented O-type polarizing layers, and alternatively, an O-type polarizing layer and an E-type polarizing layer which are oriented orthogonal to each other are provided. When a liquid crystal layer has a slow axis, the E-type polarizing layer is disposed so that an absorption axis thereof is orthogonal to the slow axis. Therefore, a liquid crystal display device having a wide viewing angle is realized in which a contrast ratio is improved by suppressing a light leakage occurring when observed from an oblique direction.
Abstract: The invention provides a method in which an annular or spiral droplet holder formed of wire is used to hold a droplet in a state of being hung therefrom or being contained therein. A means for moving the droplet holder is added to the droplet holder to enable droplet transfer. To merge two droplets, they are brought into contact. To drip the droplet held by a droplet holder formed of wire, the droplet holder is deformed using an external force. A light path which passes through a droplet is set to enable optical measurement. The present invention enables inexpensive, simple droplet transfer. An inexpensive, simple configuration for handling droplets in the fields of chemical analysis, biochemical analysis, and automatic blood analysis can be realized according to the present invention.
Abstract: A virtual machine system in which a physical CPU busy ratio can be measured in consideration of the status of an assignment of the physical CPU, and the measured CPU busy ratio can be reflected to a CPU busy ratio of each guest OS. An elapsed time counter is provided in a hypervisor, and a hypervisor access interface is provided in each of LPARs and used to read the elapsed time counter from the guest OS. A performance monitor program running on each guest OS calculates, based on a value of the elapsed time counter, the number of sampling timings expected to occur during the time when the physical CPU is not assigned to the LPAR in which the performance monitor program is provided.
