Abstract: An exhaust pipe assembly for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine is made up of a plurality of exhaust pipes made of steel whose upstream ends are connected to a flange provided for connection to a cylinder head, a collecting case to which downstream ends of the exhaust pipes are connected, and a coupling flange interposed between the exhaust pipes and the collecting case. The coupling flange is made of a thin steel plate and has upward burred portions which are circular in shape and into which respective downstream ends of the exhaust pipes are separately inserted for welding with the burred portions, and a downward bent portion whose peripheral edge portion is fitted onto an upper outside end portion of the collecting case for welding with the bent portion.
Abstract: In an individual-spindle-drive type multiple twister that directly employs separate motors to drive the spindle shafts of each twisting unit, when a spindle is inserted into the housing during motor assembly, a rotor and a stator may attract each other and adhere to each other, and this attraction may prevent the spindle shaft from being correctly inserted into a target bearing, thus making it difficult to assemble the motor. A spindle shaft 4 is rotatably supported by bearings 27a and 28a mounted onto upper and lower supporting members 27 and 28. The distance A between the lower end of the rotor magnet 32 of the drive motor 10 fixed to the spindle shaft 4 and the lower end of the spindle shaft 4 is longer than the distance B between the upper end of the stator coil 31, which is fixed to the housing 34 of the drive motor 10, and the bearing 28a of the lower supporting member 28. In addition, the tip 4 of the spindle shaft 4c is tapered to facilitate insertion.
Abstract: A transport apparatus comprises two rails 14, 17 arranged side by side for supporting respective right and left metal wheels 21, 22 of a truck 18 thereon. At least one of the two rails 14, 17 is a truck transport movable rail 17 movable longitudinally thereof. A portion of the entire movable rail 17 including at least a rail tread is made of an elastic material.
Abstract: Compositions comprising an ionene polymer and a pyrithione salt are disclosed which are synergistically effective compared to the respective components alone in controlling the growth of microorganisms in or on a material or medium. Methods to control the growth of microorganisms and prevent spoilage caused by microorganisms with the use of the compositions of the present invention are also disclosed.

Abstract: A logical simulator that creates a logical simulation model that can equally distribute the load to each processing element and certainly suppress a decrease in a parallel processing efficiency due to each processing element waiting for its synchronous operation, thus increasing the speed of the logical simulation. The logical simulator includes a load measuring unit for measuring the load of each of processing elements at a logical simulation execution time, and a load data file for holding as load data the result measured by the load measuring unit. The model creating unit creates a logical simulation model with a small load bias of each of the processing elements at the logical simulation execution time, based on the measured result from the load measuring unit. The logical simulator is applicable to check for the correctness in design before fabricating digital equipment such as a digital computer formed of logical circuits.
Abstract: A projection exposure apparatus having an illuminating system for irradiating a mask, which has a pattern, with illuminating light for exposure, and a projection optical system for projecting an image of the mask pattern onto a photosensitive substrate with predetermined image-forming characteristics under the illuminating light. The apparatus is provided with an optical filter changing member for selecting one of a plurality of optical filters that change at least one of optical characteristics of light from the mask by respective amounts which are different from each other. The optical characteristics include an amplitude distribution, a phase distribution and a condition of polarization. The optical filter changing member further disposes the selected optical filter on a pupil plane in the projection optical system or on a plane in the neighborhood of the pupil plane.
Abstract: An improved heat exchanger for use in a gas compression/expansion apparatus. The heat exchanger comprises: a tube connected with a compression/expansion space of a compression/expansion cylinder of the apparatus; a central cylinder coaxially disposed in the tube such that a narrow gap for the working gas is formed only between the central cylinder and the tube. The heat exchanger may liberate heat from, or providing heat to, the compression/expansion cylinder through heat transfer between the working gas in the tube and an ambient medium surrounding said tube. The heat exchanger is capable to serve as a low/high temperature heat source for an external heat load.
Abstract: This is a device for supporting an animal clamp (100) fixing a small laboratory animal in a specified position with respect to a testing apparatus (300). A base board (2) is fixed to the testing apparatus (300). An elevating board (4) is raised or lowered by jacks (31, 32) installed between it and base board (2), and a clamp mounting board (8) is tilted by jack (61) and sliding member (62) installed between it and elevating board (4).As a result, the height position and inclination angle of the animal clamp (100) mounted on the clamp mounting board (8) are determined, and they may be finely adjusted by properly manipulating the jacks (31, 32, 61). The animal clamp (100) does not slip off the clamp mounting board (8) because of the clamp slip preventive flange piece (7).
Abstract: A jet part pipette includes a body having an upper end and a lower end, the body having a longitudinal opening therein. A jet part is connected at the lower end of the body, and has an upper portion and a lower end. A replaceable jet container is connected to the lower end of the jet part, and has a lower element having a longitudinal opening therein. A movable rod extends through the jet part and through the longitudinal opening in the body, and has a manually operable upper end and a lower end engaging the lower element of the replaceable jet container for drawing liquid therein. A replaceable cover surrounds the upper portion of the jet part, and has a first end portion and a second end portion, the first end portion of the replaceable cover being detachably connected to an outer periphery of the upper portion of the jet part. The lower end of the jet part extends beyond the second end of the replaceable cover.
Abstract: The present invention is a method for forming grooves in rolls which are suitable for working web-like materials, wherein a laser source directs a laser beam and an aligned conduit directs a pressurized gas jet onto the roll surface, the roll material thus being removed in a sharply defined area and a groove thereby being formed.

Abstract: An antenna selection diversity receiver system for TDM signals that switches antennas for every assigned time slot so that the best receive signal quality is obtained in the assigned time slot according to the prediction made by using the signal quality just before the assigned time slot. The prediction of signal quality is carried out according to the receive level (R.sub.1, R.sub.2), and the slope of the same of each of the antennas just before the assigned time slot. The signal quality may be determined by the average code error rate, receive level at the center of the assigned slot, or the minimum receive level in the assigned slot. The prediction is carried out either through linear prediction or non-linear prediction.
