Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and a device for forming an interface between a first and a second essentially immiscible liquid, especially for the measurement of the surface tension at said interface. According to the invention, a volume of the first liquid is added to a first well having a closed bottom, walls and an upper opening in a horizontal surface. A volume of the second liquid is added to a second well, e.g. in the form of a bore or a sleeve having an upper well opening and a lower well opening which lower well opening rests in a sealing relationship on the said horizontal surface, the said surface closing the lower opening, but in sliding engagement therewith. The lower opening of the second well is brought into alignment with the upper opening of the first well, thus depositing the volume of the second liquid on top of the surface of the volume of the first liquid, to form the desired liquid-liquid interface.
Abstract: This connector assembly comprises a header (1) and a socket (2). The header (1) has a header contact member (4) with a first contact piece (41) and a second contact piece (42), and the socket (2) has a socket contact member (6) with a first contact piece (64) and a second contact piece (66). The first contact piece (64) of the socket contact member (6) has a first protrusion (64a) and the first contact piece (41) of the header contact member (4) has a second protrusion (41a), and the first protrusion (64a) and the second protrusion (41a) constitute a lock mechanism when the header is inserted into the socket. The second contact piece (42) of the header contact member (4) has a concave portion (42a) in a surface for making contact with the second contact piece (66). When the second contact pieces (42) and (66) make contact with each other, a gap is formed between the second contact piece (66) and an inner surface of the concave portion (42a).
Abstract: A method for locating an optimum peeling axis of a log and a maximum radius point on peripheral surface of the log with respect to the located optimum peeling axis and an apparatus for practicing the method are disclosed. A plurality of swingable members are provided, each member having a contact surface which is swingable in contact with the peripheral surface of the log thereby to follows the peripheral profile of the log while it is being rotated about its preliminary axis. Angular positions of the contact surfaces are measured with respect to a reference position at a number of angularly spaced positions of the log. On the basis of the measured angular positions of the contact surfaces, radial distances of the log from a plurality of predetermined locations on the optimum peeling axis to selected contact surfaces are computed for comparison such radial distances. The distance having the greatest value is regarded as the maximum radius point of the log.
Abstract: A circuit includes a latch circuit including a Josephson junction and configured to perform a latch operation based on a hysteresis characteristic in response to a single flux quantum, a load circuit including load inductance and load resistance and coupled to an output of the latch circuit, and a reset circuit provided between the output of the latch circuit and the load circuit and configured to reset the latch circuit a predetermined time after the latch operation by the latch circuit, wherein the Josephson junction is driven by a direct current.

Abstract: For miniaturizing a power supply structure to absorb slack of a wire harness and improving bending durability, a continuous electric power supply device 1 includes a wire harness 3 formed to have a loop portion 4, an elastic member 6 along the loop portion 4, the elastic member energizing the loop portion to expand in a radial direction. The loop portion 4 and the elastic member 6 are disposed in a protector 2. The protector has a opening 13 for leading the harness and a guide portion 7 for supporting the loop portion 4 at a position opposite to the opening 13. The elastic member, flat spring 6 can have a length forming a loop shape to intersect itself.
Abstract: The electric power supply device for a slide structure includes: a casing which receives a wiring harness folded in a U-shape; a slider which holds a movable end of the wiring harness and slidably engages with the casing; and a harness supporting member which slidably contactually engages with a folded part of the wiring harness and includes a supporting plate body for supporting an inner side face of the wiring harness. The device prevents the wiring harness from hanging down or bending when the slide structure is moved, so that a smooth and secure slide operation is attained.

Abstract: After an ONO film in which a silicon nitride film (22) formed by a plasma nitriding method using a plasma processor having a radial line slot antenna is sandwiched by silicon oxide films (21), (23), a bit line diffusion layer (17) is formed in a memory cell array region (11) by an ion implantation as a resist pattern (16) taken as a mask, then lattice defects are given to the silicon nitride film (22) by a further ion implantation. Accordingly, a highly reliable semiconductor memory device can be realized, in which a high quality nitride film is formed in a low temperature condition, in addition, the nitride film can be used as a charge trap film having a charge capture function sufficiently adaptable for a miniaturization and a high integration which are recent demands.
Abstract: There is provided a heating/cooling system capable of reducing power consumption. The heating/cooling system has a receiving room capable of using hot air and cold air in a switching manner, and comprises a refrigerant circuit which comprises a compressor, a gas cooler, a radiator, an expansion valve, an evaporator, and the like, in which carbon dioxide is sealed as a refrigerant, and whose high pressure side becomes supercritical pressure. The inside of the receiving room is heated by the radiator and cooled by the evaporator.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a polymerized toner comprising a process for forming fine droplets of a polymerizable monomer composition in an aqueous dispersion medium, and a process for polymerizing the polymerizable monomer composition after the process for forming fine droplets; wherein the process for forming fine droplets has the steps of: preparing an agitating apparatus having an agitator equipped with an agitating blade or rotor and a dispersion supply tank; providing a polymerizable monomer composition and an aqueous dispersion medium into the dispersion supply tank; then, mixing the polymerizable monomer composition and the aqueous dispersion medium by the agitator to obtain a dispersion of fine droplets; and the relationship between the peripheral velocity of the agitating blade or rotor of the agitator and the number of circulations of the dispersion is controlled.
Abstract: The present invention provides an image forming apparatus for forming an image on printing paper by rolling up the printing paper around a cylindrical or column-shaped member without any fixture, that can measure with a high accuracy the length of the printing paper during transport thereof. The image forming apparatus of the present invention forms an image on printing paper in a state in which the printing paper is rolled up around an outer circumferential surface of a cylindrical or column-shaped member, and includes a sensor for detecting a front end or a rear end of the printing paper on the outer circumferential surface and a controller for calculating a length of the printing paper. The sensor, after having detected the rear end with the printing paper completely rolled up around the member, detects the front end along with rotation of the member.
Abstract: A waterproof housing of a junction box has at least one vent piece penetrating through a wall of the housing for ventilation of the junction box. The vent piece has an inner wall formed with a baffle projection to prevent invasion of a splashing water. The waterproof housing has a plurality of the vent pieces. The waterproof housing also has a drain hole provided in the housing. The vent piece has an inside opening positioned higher than the drain hole when the junction box is mounted at a usage position. The baffle projection is positioned at an axial inner end portion of the vent piece. The vent piece has a central axis inclined relative to an invasion direction of an expected splashing water.
Abstract: An electric double layer capacitor includes: a cell which includes a pair of polarizable electrodes impregnated with an electrolytic solution and disposed in opposed relation with a separator interposed therebetween; collector electrodes respectively attached to the polarizable electrodes; and a sealing member of a synthetic resin which seals a periphery of the cell. The collector electrodes extend outward of the sealing member through the sealing member in contact with the sealing member. The collector electrodes each have a rough surface portion which extends through the sealing member.
Abstract: A system consisting of one or more satellites carrying photovoltaic panels that capture solar energy and convert it to electricity for storage and transmission to earth by a microwave energy beam. The earth station absorbs the microwave energy beam in a pressurized pool of water with an insulated dome cover. The dome cover allows the microwaves to enter but turns back the heat emanating from the pool. Succeeding microwave energy beams from the satellites heat the water which transfers the energy to another pool that is maintained in a constant boiling state to develop steam which drives a turbine that turns a generator and produces electric energy. The satellites follow a slightly off-polar orbit which assures their passing over large areas of the earth while at the same time following the earth's rotation assuring repeated passage over the same stations.
Abstract: A heat-shrinkable film includes outer layers containing a polyester resin, and at least one inner layer being arranged between the outer layers and containing an olefinic resin including at least one ethylene-propylene-butene terpolymer. The film has an interlayer bonding strength between the inner layer and the outer layer of 3.0 N/15-mm or more. The inner layer may contain the ethylene-propylene-butene terpolymer in an amount of 45 percent by weight or more based on the total weight of the inner layer. The heat-shrinkable film is excellent in strength, abrasion resistance, solvent resistance, dimensional stability, and optical transparency, exhibits high shrinkability and high flexibility as a result of heating, and thereby yields beautiful finish after shrinkage. The heat-shrinkable film can be suitably recycled after use.
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to enable the detection of the presence/absence of an object over a plurality of detection areas without using a plurality of light-receiving devices and light-emitting devices. A sensor detects the presence/absence of an object in a detection area where a light-emitting area of a light-emitting device and a light-receiving area of a light-receiving device are overlapped with each other, and includes: a power supply unit that outputs a driving current I of the light-emitting device such that its current value is variable; a control unit that has the function of controlling the power supply unit to change in magnitude of the driving current I of the light-emitting device, and determining the presence/absence of an object based on an output from the light-receiving device to output the result of determination as a detection signal; and an output signal 50 that converts the detection signal into an analog signal to output the converted signal as a signal ?.
Abstract: A new and distinct variety of mushroom, named Hokuto NT-100, is described, which mushroom has the following characteristics: large cap, thick meat, nice consistency, nice taste, uniform growth when cultivated in a facility, and suitable for bottle cultivation. The variety of mushroom named Hokuto NT-100 was developed from mushrooms related to Hokuto MY-95 and Hokuto MY-75, which are registered varieties of a Japanese corporation and a wild variety found in Aomori Prefecture of Japan.
