  • Patent number: 5139071
Abstract: A louvered blind having a first blind assembly defining a first passageway and a second blind assembly defining a second passageway. A rod passes through both the first and second passageways. A first spacer is frictionally secured to the rod and has a portion disposed in the first passageway for securing the rod to the first blind assembly. The rod is fixedly secured to the second blind. The louvered blind also includes a mechanism for rotating the first spacer and a stop mechanism operatively associated with the rod to resist rotation of the rod. In use, the first spacer and the first blind assembly can be rotated simultaneously with the rod and the second blind assembly. The spacer and the first blind can also be rotated when the stop mechanism resists rotation of the rod and the second blind assembly so that the first blind assembly can be rotated independently of the second blind assembly.

  • Patent number: 5137208
Abstract: The invention provides a package for packaging of products which provides evidence of tampering with or adulteration of the product by providing a readily visible indication that any such tampering or adulteration has occurred. The invention in one form provides an inner container which is in turn at least partially covered with a tamper evident packaging material. The packaging material is a tamper evident composite material comprising a photopolymerizable composition layer which is cured and it becomes extremely brittle such that any physical penetration of this packaging material will cause the brittle layer to fracture or shatter. Such shattering will provide a clear indication that penetration of the packaging material has occurred. Also there may be provided an asociated dye which will exhibit a color change when the brittle layer is fractured or shattered.

  • Patent number: 5136812
Abstract: The top hung sash assembly of the invention comprises a hinge bar and a frame assembly hingedly connected to the hinge bar. The frame assembly includes a head extrusion member, a sill member and two side members with at least one glazing member mounted therein. The head extrusion includes a first flange which defines a recess. Secured in the recess is weatherstripping which contacts the hinge bar when the frame assembly is closed against the hinge bar. The weatherstripping is only partially compressed when the frame assembly is closed against the hinge bar. The invention further provides a window construction and a related method for joining a plurality of window assemblies which properly spaces the assemblies relative to the building opening and each other and which allows for subsequent thermal expansion and contraction while remaining sealed.

  • Patent number: 5122983
Abstract: A charge-based multiplier circuit is provided which generates a charge packet proportional to the product of an input signal and a weight voltage. An exponential pulse is formed which is representative of the input signal. The circuit generates an output charge proportional to the product of the peak magntiude of the exponential pulse and the exponential decay time constant, which is represented by the weight voltage. The output charge can be generated as a charge onto an output bus for positive results, or the amount can be depleted from the bus for negative results.

  • Patent number: 5109201
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining carbon content in fly ash providing a source of fly ash and a microwave interrogation chamber. A quantity of fly ash is introduced into the interrogation chamber and exposed to microwave energy. The amount of carbon in the fly ash is determined by measuring the amount of microwave energy exposed to the fly ash, the amount of energy transmitted through the fly ash, and the amount reflected therefrom in order to determine the amount of energy absorbed. The concentration of fly ash is preferably determined by determining the weight of the fly ash and determining the percentage of carbon content in the fly ash. The method is particularly useful in respect of monitoring carbon content in fly ash of boiler exhaust gases. The system may also be employed to determine the fly ash glass content of fly ash.

  • Patent number: 5099742
Abstract: Apparatus for altering the output of an electronic string musical instrum responsive to bending of the string comprises a compressible electrically conductive member which has an electrical resistance which varies with the degree of compression applied and may be a conductive elastomer or a piezoresistive material. First and second holders are in contact with the conductive member and a current source is secured to the first holder and the string electrode secured to the second. Bending of the string causes the application of compression to the conductive member. The change in current flow is converted into an output which is a frequency variation which corresponds to the degree of bending of the string.

  • Patent number: 5095810
Abstract: A ridge vent for covering the opening at the peak of a roof. The ridge vent is composed of a first panel portion joined to a second panel portion to form a generally inverted V-shaped web portion which fits over the peak of the roof. The web portion has an interior surface on which a plurality of V-shaped baffles are disposed to support the vent on the roof. The baffles are disposed in an overlapping pattern to resist rain and snow from entering the building. The ridge vent also has ventilation ribs with openings therebetween the ribs extending downwardly from each side of the web portion to allow passage of air into and out of the openings. An angled flange is provided at either side of the ridge vent to deflect air upwardly and over the roof and to create negative air pressure. Alignment tabs and flaps are provided to connect contiguous vent panels together along a roof peak. Nail holes are provided for securing the vent panels to the roof.
