  • Patent number: 4073503
Abstract: A motorcycle sidecar mounting bracket has means which permit the motorcycle to tilt relative to the sidecar. Two bracket members which connect the sidecar with the motorcycle are pivotally mounted on the underside of the motorcycle. As the motorcyclist leans the motorcycle into a turn, the brackets remain horizontal while the motorcycle tilts independently of the sidecar.

  • Patent number: 3978736
Abstract: A pilgrim step indexing mechanism provided with oppositely facing toothed ratchet wheels of the same pitch is associated with a single indexing pawl and an associated detent spring which not only detentably holds the ratchet wheels but also biases the indexing pawl to engage the ratchet wheels. The indexing pawl has two teeth one of which engages one of the ratchet wheels during a reverse stroke of the pawl to reverse feed both ratchets one increment and during a forward stroke of the pawl to advance both ratchets two increments. The ratchet wheels may be connected with a platen of a printer whereby a line of printwork, after printing, will be positioned two line spaces above the printing line for easy viewing.

  • Patent number: 3973663
Abstract: A typewriter power roll having a hollow core is assembled with end bearings which are adapted to rotatably support the power roll on a stationary center shaft. Assembling the core and end bearings as a unit allows the periphery to be ground concentric with the bearing axes. After grinding, the power roll can be located in a typewriter and the center shaft inserted through side frame openings and the bearings and adjustably secured to the typewriter side frames at opposite ends by being wedged between a slotted surface of an adjusting plate adjustably secured to the side frames and an eccentric mounted on the adjusting plate.

  • Patent number: 3967715
Abstract: An intermittent drive for a single-element printing typewriter, calculator or similar machine. The drive comprises a drive shaft couplable via a cycle clutch to a driven shaft and a governor disposed on the driven shaft to couple it with and maintain it at the same speed as the drive shaft during the clutch cycle. The governor comprises a friction wheel having a generally circular cross-section provided with flattened portions. During the clutch cycle, when the clutch engages the driven shaft, the friction wheel contacts a roll fixed to the drive shaft preventing the driven shaft from leading the drive shaft in response to reflected forces. At the end of the clutch cycle, when the clutch is disengaged, the friction wheel has rotated so that a flattened portion of the friction wheel faces the roll, and driven shaft is free from the rotation of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 3955856
Abstract: An anti-friction device for use under hostile conditions such as high temperature or nuclear radiation environments or for use under sustained impact loading. The device comprises two components: first, a fibrous, non-metallic substrate which is capable of withstanding hostile conditions such as high temperatures, high nuclear radiation or sustained impact loading, and second, a lubricating medium carried by and substantially permeating the entire fibrous substrate. When the device is disposed between two members, the members will be capable of moving relative to one another due to the relatively low coefficient of sliding or rolling friction at a surface between the members.

  • Patent number: 3955204
Abstract: A matrix printing head for use in a thermoelectric printing process has a plurality of electrical conductors which are fixed in predetermined relationship to one another. The conductors are disposed in a plurality of plates, and the plates are fixed in predetermined relationship to each other to form a matrix of electrical conductors. The plates may be made of an electrically conductive material and have insulating slots cut completely through the plates to form the conductors. The plates are then stacked, sandwich fashion, with a layer of insulating material between each plate. The plates and layers may be pinned to insure accurate alignment, and an adhesive is applied to the surfaces of the plates and insulating layers. The stack is then compressed and the ends of the conductors are exposed to provide a printing surface at one end and leads for the electrical connection of means to activate selected conductors at the other end.

  • Patent number: 3949855
Abstract: A typewriter is provided with carriage control mechanisms such that more than one carriage control function can be initiated at one time. The arrangement of carriage function controls permit a dominant carriage movement to prevail, and less dominant carriage movement function controls will either give way or, in case of tabulation, give way and await completion of the dominant function while yet remaining in active position to arrest tabulating movement. No interlocking of carriage functions is necessary. More particularly, if a dominant carriage return is initiated, carriage return movement of the carriage will cause a backspace pawl, controlled by initiation of a backspace function, either immediately before or after carriage return movement begins, to move out of engagement from the escapement rack. If either a carriage or a backspace function is in progress, i.e., the carriage is moving to effect a carriage return or backspace, a tabulation function can still be initiated.
