  • Patent number: 4437490
Abstract: A reed valve assembly is provided with a reed sandwiched between two base members, e.g. a valve plate and a cylinder head of a compressor. The reed is clamped between the two members at a central part whereby both free ends of the reed can flex. The base members are so structured that one free end of the reed forms an intake valve members and the other a discharge valve member, whereby a single reed serves both as an intake valve member and as a discharge valve member. The invention also avoids rivets or the like elements by securing the reed to the base solely by the clamping action of properly recessed faces of the two base members.

  • Patent number: 4399652
Abstract: A combustion chamber for burning low BTU fuel comprising a generally cylindrical casing having adjacent outer and inner annular spaces defined by outer, intermediate and inner walls, the spaces intercommunicating at the downstream end of the casing thereby providing a U-shaped flow path. The outer annular space traverses the entire length of the casing while the inner space extends to the approximate mid-point of the casing, thereby communicating with internally disposed combustion units. In operation, fuel as coolant is fed to the outer space at the upstream end, traverses the U-shaped flow-path thus making a double pass around the combustion zone of the combustion chamber and thence to the combustion units for ignition. Improved cooling is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4387559
Abstract: A fuel burner and combustor assembly for a gas turbine engine has a housing within the casing of the gas turbine engine which housing defines a combustion chamber and at least one fuel burner secured to one end of the housing and extending into the combustion chamber. The other end of the fuel burner is arranged to slidably engage a fuel inlet connector extending radially inwardly from the engine casing so that fuel is supplied, from a source thereof, to the fuel burner. The fuel inlet connector and fuel burner coact to anchor the housing against axial movement relative to the engine casing while allowing relative radial movement between the engine casing and the fuel burner and, at the same time, providing fuel flow to the fuel burner. For dual fuel capability, a fuel injector is provided in said fuel burner with a flexible fuel supply pipe so that the fuel injector and fuel burner form a unitary structure which moves with the fuel burner.

  • Patent number: 4379986
Abstract: A motor control circuit for disconnecting the motor's power supply when the motor is stalled but maintaining it connected when it is running comprising a power loop and control loop, the former including a signal sensing means which provides an output sensing signal whose magnitude is a function of the motor's state in series with an ON, OFF switching means' input-output terminals which is responsive to the magnitude of a control signal applied to its control terminal to control its state. The control loop comprises a counter which provides a control output signal in response to a predetermined count and whose input is fed by the output of a voltage controlled oscillator whose frequency is a function of the magnitude of the output sensing signal of the signal sensing means to which it is connected. A resetting means is coupled to the reset terminal of the counter for periodically resetting the counter. The output control signal from the counter is fed to the control terminal of the switching means.

  • Patent number: 4315400
Abstract: In a gas turbine power plant having a pressurized fluidized bed combustor, gas turbine-air compressor subsystem and a gas clean-up subsystem interconnected for fluid flow therethrough, a pipe communicating the outlet of the compressor of the gas turbine-air compressor subsystem with the interior of the pressurized fluidized bed combustor and the gas clean-up subsystem to provide for flow of compressed air, heated by the heat of compression, therethrough. The pressurized fluidized bed combustor and gas clean-up subsystem are vented to atmosphere so that the heated compressed air flows therethrough and loses heat to the interior of those components before passing to the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4293044
Abstract: The manually-actuated, rotary-impact tool for rotatively driving a fastener has a spring in a handle for storage of energy, a rotatable tool head and an inertia member surrounding the tool head and connected to the handle via driving connections. A cam associated with the handle is provided to coact with the driving connections to disengage the driving connections when the tool head rotation is resisted by a predetermined force and the handle is rotated relative to the tool head and to allow re-engagement of the driving connections in another operative condition. A lever arm is pivotally connected to the handle so as to coact with the handle and inertia member to actuate the spring for storage of energy upon resistance of the tool head to rotation and to rotate the inertia member under the force of the stored energy of the spring and effect conversion of the kinetic energy of the inertia member to impact force on the tool head upon re-engagement of the driving connections.
