Abstract: Described is allyl 4-cyclooctenyl glycolate of our invention having the structure: ##STR1## and the perfumery use thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles including solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions, fabric softener articles, hair preparations and cosmetic powders.

Abstract: Described is the novel compound genus the beta-alkylidene phenethyl alcohol esters and ethers of our invention defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.5 represents hydrogen or methyl; wherein R.sub.6 represents one of the moieties: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents the same or different hydrogen or methyl; wherein R.sub.7 represents methyl or ethyl; and wherein R.sub.8 represents hydrogen or methyl; useful in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of consumable materials including perfumes, colognes and perfumed articles including solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener articles, fabric softener compositions, cosmetic powders and hair preparations.

Abstract: Described are ethyl norbornyl alkyl ethers of our invention defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl and organoleptic uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles including but not limited to bleach compositions, solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, perfumed polymers, fabric softener compositions, fabric softener articles, cosmetic powders and hair preparations. Also described is a process for preparing such ethyl norbornyl alkyl ethers of our invention by means of reaction of compounds defined according to the structure: ##STR2## and/or compounds defined according to the structure: ##STR3## in admixture with compounds having the structure: ##STR4## with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.

Abstract: Described is an article of manufacture useful for administration of pharmacologically-active substances, transdermally, orally or by means of subdermal implant comprising a solid vinyl plastisol layer for contacting a patient's tissue, internally or externally, the layer containing from about 20 up to about 70% by weight of a polyvinyl chloride resin or a polyvinyl chloride-polyvinyl acetate copolymer containing a minor proportion of vinyl acetate; from about 20-70% plasticizer composition; from about 0.5 up to 35% of a pharmacologically-active substance such as isosorbide dinitrate, nicotine, clonidine, guanfacine, indomethacin, glyceryl trinitrate and prostaglandin and optionally excipients.

Abstract: Described are the uses of C.sub.8 -t-alkanols and C.sub.5 -C.sub.11 -omega-alken-1-ols taken alone or taken in combination as attractants house flies (Musca domestica L. (Diptera:Muscidae)). The C.sub.8 -t-alkanols and C.sub.5 -C.sub.11 -omega-alken-1-ols taken alone or in combination find utility primarily as bait enhancers for acute toxins and/or trapping devices.

Abstract: Described is the use of 1-nonen-3-ol as a repellent for house flies (Musca domestica). Also described are candle compositions which may be opaque or transparent or pastel shaded which are adapted to incorporate 1-nonen-3-ol which are both perfumes and insect repellents without flashing during burning. Such compositions comprising as the basic components a mixture of (a) a hydrocarbon wax or (b) a thermoplastic polyamide resin formed from linoleic acid polymerized with a polyamide compound taken together with an alkanol amide or alkanol amine and as stearic acid compound or (c) a straight chain aliphatic amide in combination with light mineral oil and alcohol; compositions (a), (b) or (c), supra, taken further together with 1-nonen-3-ol taken alone or together with a perfume composition substantially inactive from an insect repellent standpoint. Also described is apparatus also referred to herein as an "olfactometer" used for measuring the repellency of said 1-nonen-3-ol.

Abstract: Described are the uses of mixtures of hydroxybornyloxybutanes defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein in the mixture in each of the compounds one or R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is methyl and the other of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is hydrogen in augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of smoking tobacco articles and smoking tobacco compositions.

Abstract: Described are animal control compositions and methods; which compositions comprise lemon oil and .alpha.-terpinyl methyl ether taken alone or taken further together with quinine or salts thereof. The compositions can be used "as is" or in the form of a "controlled release" composition whereby the lemon oil and .alpha.-terpinyl methyl ether taken alone or further together with quinine or a salt thereof are intimately admixed (alone or with adjuvants including but not limited to other volatile, odorous ingredients) with a polymeric substance such as polyethylene in the form of pellets or functional articles, e.g., garbage bags.

Abstract: Described is a process for preparing natural benzaldehyde and acetaldehyde and compositions of matter containing natural benzaldehyde and acetaldehyde as well as products produced thereby and organoleptic utilities thereof, which process comprises the step of contacting with base naturally occurring cinnamaldehyde or a natural product rich in cinnamaldehyde such as Ceylon oil of cinnamon, Ceylon cinnamon bark, Saigon cinnamon bark, cassia oil, Ceylon cinnamon quills, cinnamon leaf oil, oil of cinnamon Madagascar or the like according to the reaction: ##STR1## the reaction taking place in aqueous media and in the presence of a food grade or natural nonionic emulsifier, preferably a nonionic sorbitan derivative emulsifying agent and in the absence of any other reagents.
