  • Patent number: 4373446
Abstract: A truck for a railway vehicle including wheelsets each comprising a pair of wheels with an axle rigidly joining the wheels. A bearing assembly is provided at each end of the axle. A side frame having a pedestal jaw at each end accommodates therebetween one of the bearing assemblies, with the bearing assembly including an adapter member. The truck further includes a steering assembly operatively connected to the bearing adapter and thereby to the wheelset for radially steering the truck. The adapter member includes a main body portion underlying the pedestal jaw of the side frame, and an extension section extending axially of the axle inward from the main body portion towards the center of the truck. The adapter member extension section includes an upwardly facing, generally planar surface underlying a steering arm of the steering assembly. The arm is connected to and supported by the surface. Two spaced buttress type ribs project upward from the surface to receive the steering arm therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4367673
Abstract: A multi-purpose lifting vehicle includes a hydraulic cylinder for controlling the elevation of a boom hoist device operably connected thereto. The device is alternately used in crane or front end loader modes of operation. The vehicle includes a hydraulic system for controlling the operation of the cylinder comprising a multi-position mode selector valve for selecting the specific mode of operation of the boom hoist device for raising, lowering and enabling the boom hoist device to float. The control system further includes a holding valve for locking the hydraulic fluid within the raising end of the cylinder for maintaining the elevation of the boom hoist device. A first bypass circuit is provided about the holding valve for enabling fluid to escape from the raising end of the cylinder while fluid is simultaneously flowing to the lowering end thereof.

  • Patent number: 4364482
Abstract: A rigid draft and buffing sliding sill includes cushion elements operably attached thereto for absorbing shocks generated during buff or draft operating conditions. The draft and buffing sliding sill extends lengthwise of the underframe of a railway car. At least one of the cushion elements remains inactive until the shock forces acting on the underframe exceed a predetermined magnitude.

  • Patent number: 4316217
Abstract: Apparatus for connecting a cable television system utilizing a multi-channel converter having a preselector switch and a preselected converter very high frequency output signal to a video cassette recorder and/or a television receiver. The apparatus includes an input for receiving the signals transmitted by the cable system; first and second conduits defining first and second flow paths, with the converter being disposed in the first flow path; a trap disposed in the second flow path for eliminating the preselected converter output signal from the signals transmitted by the cable system and passing through the second flow path; and a device for combining the preselected converter output signal in the first flow path and the signals transmitted through the second flow path and for transmitting the combined signal to the video cassette recorder and/or television receiver.

  • Patent number: 4274339
Abstract: A steering assembly for a radially steerable articulated railway car truck has a pair of steering arms that are operably joined to the truck axles and connected together by a linkage passing over the truck bolster adjacent the side frames. The steering arms can be retrofitted to an existing conventional (non-radially steerable) three piece railway truck regardless of the type of brake rigging the truck employs. The linkage structure includes a pivotable link located at each end of the bolster and joining the steering arms for articulated movement.

  • Patent number: 4269567
Abstract: Gas laden drilling mud is effectively handled by a centrifugal pump system which allows the flow of released gases from the drilling mud to move in the same axial direction as the mud flow through the pump; whereupon the released gases may be conducted to safe disposal areas. A hollow-centered impeller is driven by a hollow shaft through which the gases may be withdrawn. A prerotation chamber and impeller shroud below the impeller admit drilling mud into the impeller housing, providing the drilling mud with initial rotational velocity through a reduced radius, and further establishing a central opening through which gases escaping from the drilling mud will be released due to centrifugal forces on the mud. Released gases may then be removed through the central passage in the hollow shaft, which shaft may be provided with external means for preventing upward flow of fluid therearound.

  • Patent number: 4267935
Abstract: A rotary railway car coupler has a shank with a butt end portion for mounting to a coupler yoke and a head end portion on its opposite end portion. A coupler head has a guard arm side portion, a knuckle side portion and a knuckle mounted therewith for cooperative connection with another mating railway car coupler. The shank has on its head end portion a mount for rotatably mounting the coupler head. A mount within the coupler head rotatably connects the coupler head and the coupler shank for rotation of the coupler head relative to the shank.

  • Patent number: 4253530
Abstract: A gas bubble is circulated from a well by a system that maintains the well and bottom hole pressure substantially constant by progressively increasing the casing pressure as needed to maintain the drill pipe pressure substantially constant. An incrementally increasing casing pressure reference signal is produced by detecting each occurrence of the drill pipe pressure falling a predetermined amount below a drill pipe pressure reference signal. The casing pressure reference signal is compared with the actual casing pressure. A throttling valve is closed a corresponding amount if the acutal casing pressure is less than the casing pressure reference signal. The throttling valve is opened a corresponding amount if the actual casing pressure is greater than the casing pressure reference signal.

Abstract: A unitary cast draft sill for welding to the center sill of a railroad car comprises a unitary cast structure with the following elements and features: A horizontal top wall has a pair of side walls depending therefrom with a bottom portion having flanges extending horizontally outward from the side walls. A vertical inboard end wall joins the bottom portion, the side walls and the top wall and has a transition element extending from the inboard side portion thereof to telescopically enter adjacent portions of a railroad car center sill. A center filler plate pocket is formed by the inboard end wall, portions of the side walls and the top wall and an internal vertical wall spaced in the outboard direction from the inboard end wall to form a cavity opening at the bottom portion to accept and mount a center filler plate in welded relation. Rear draft lugs are formed at the outboard side of the internal vertical wall and adjoin the side walls.
