  • Patent number: 4928219
Abstract: An adaptable current regulating system provides a regulated current in accordance with both the actual characteristics of a system under control and the actual measured period of an AC supply. The system constantly monitors its status, and provides a master controller with the status of the system, and is programmed to provide control in accordance with information received from the master controller.

  • Patent number: 4927594
Abstract: The present invention obtains enthalpy rise deviations in core power distribution using core exit thermocouples 18 and an inlet temperature detector 20. The enthalpy rise deviations are used to determine control rod position change relative a rod reference position. Because rod position change is linear with respect to enthalpy deviation, the change can be determined from the slope using the deviation. By adding the change to a reference rod position the actual rod position can be determined.

  • Patent number: 4928221
Abstract: The present invention is a system that takes a drawing definition produced by a CAD/CAM system 10 and produces a debugged part program. The drawing definition is used to produce a sequence of processes which will produce the part. The drawing definition is a list of the surfaces which create the part. The list is scanned by a process planner 14 and a list of primitive shapes and transition points in each shape is created. The transition points are used to create a process tree defining regions for machining. The tree is populated with region boundaries that are used to designate machining operations. The boundaries are then used to select particular processes based on the shape to be machined during the operation by traversing a shape tree looking for a match. The process selection also specifies tools, feeds and speeds necessary for rough machining the part.

  • Patent number: 4926364
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a weighted average of three input values under the control of a processor includes a step of determining which of the three input values is the median value, with the remaining input values being first and second values. Then, first and second weighting factors are calculated based on a predetermined median weighting factor and the three input values. Finally, a weighted average is calculated based on the first and second weighting factors, the predetermined median weighting factor, the first and second input values and the median input value. The three input values may be sensed values provided by a temperature sensor in a nuclear power plant.

  • Patent number: 4920548
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for reducing the effects of frequency burst noise and noise spikes accompanying a random pulse signal, pulses with an amplitude above a high threshold or below a low threshold are eliminated, with the remaining pulses of intermediate amplitude being statistically filtered. The statistical filter compares the current pulse count rate signal to maximum and minimum statistical limits generated from the recent average value of the pulse count rate using Poisson statistics, and clamps the output to the limit which is exceeded. If the pulse count rate is between the statistical limits, it is used as the output pulse count rate signal. If the statistical limits are exceeded for a designated interval indicative of a true change in the pulse count rate, clamping of the output signal is overridden so that the true change in pulse count rate can be tracked. Statistical filtering is resumed when the current pulse count rate is again within the statistical limits.

  • Patent number: 4903529
Abstract: A method for testing an hydraulic device of an hydraulic control system, the system having a source of hydraulic fluid under pressure and a fluid reservoir, and the device having a fluid inlet which is releasably coupled to the source when the system is in operation, a fluid outlet which is releasably coupled to the reservoir when the system is in operation, and an element which restricts fluid flow between the inlet and the outlet, by: halting operation of the system; providing a portable analyzing apparatus having a supply of hydraulic fluid, an outlet conduit, a unit for supplying hydraulic fluid under pressure from the supply to the outlet conduit, a return conduit communicating with the supply, a fluid pressure monitor connected to the outlet conduit, and a fluid flow monitor in the return conduit; disconnecting the fluid inlet of the device from the source and connecting that fluid inlet to the outlet conduit; disconnecting the fluid outlet of the device from the reservoir and connecting that fluid outl

  • Patent number: 4896537
Abstract: A shrouded turbine blade vibration monitoring system is comprised of a plurality of sensors for sensing a profile of a turbine blade row. A microprocessor compares the sensed profile to an expected profile of the turbine blade row to detect motion of the turbine blades due to vibration. The microprocessor then generates an operator alarm and trips the turbine in response to the detection of unacceptable vibration of the turbine blades.

  • Patent number: 4847600
Abstract: In fossil boilers and steam generator of fossil boilers and nuclear power plants, a son-air detector using ultrasonic transducers is employed with a glandless motor pump which may have a vertical top vent pipe to ascertain with fast response if the vent pipe has liquid or not. In the glandless motor pump, the pumped primary liquid per se is used for lubricating the bearings of the motor, whereby, if the lubricating liquid is absent, the motor operation should not be continued. For redundancy, a second transducer may be used, whereby when both the transducers are connected to simultaneously indicate absence of liquid in the vent pipe, suitable corrective action is initiated. A vent pipe filled with liquid will transmit ultrasonic bursts (provided by the transducer) through the liquid, so that the ultrasonic waves are reflected back. An empty vent pipe will not reflect the ultrasonic waves which would simply be dissipated.

  • Patent number: 4845384
Abstract: Dynamic logic units utilize magnetic cores of rectangular hysteresis loop material wound with an input winding, a pair of output windings connected to a CMOS flip-flop, and a d-c control winding. With a d-c current on the control winding, the core experiences flux reversals in response to a square wave on the input winding to generate output pulses which alternately switch the flip-flop to produce a square wave output which matches the input. In a first embodiment, the output windings are in the form of a center-tapped winding with the center tap grounded to provide a low impedance discharge path for the capacitors in grounded R-C filters on the inputs to the flip-flop which suppress voltage spikes. In a second embodiment, output windings on separate magnetic cores which share an input windings but only one of which has a control winding, are connected in opposition to eliminate the switching spikes in the signal applied to the flip-flop.
