Abstract: The disclosure teaches an improvement in the degassing and filtration of molten metal, especially aluminum, using an apparatus which employs a pair of sequentially placed, removable filter-type plates and at least one fluxing gas inlet positioned therebetween. The first of said filter-type plates is characterized by a plurality of holes which provide a preferential path through which the fluxing gas flows upwardly through the first of said filter plates in countercurrent contact with the melt. Said plate serves to break up said fluxing gas into a fine dispersion to assure its intimate and extensive contact with the melt. Dissolved gases and non-metallic inclusions are thereby abstracted and removed from the melt.
Abstract: The disclosure teaches an improved filter-type media which is characterized by a plurality of holes of equal size which are substantially larger than the pore size of the filter-type media thereby providing a preferential path through the filter-type media.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the preparation of oriented hollow objects of moldable organic plastic material by providing a parison on a first blow core, expanding said parison into an intermediate shape, as by pre-expanding it, transferring said pre-expanded parison to a second blow core, finally extending and expanding said parison to form said hollow object in finished shape.
Abstract: The disclosure teaches a method for joining metal-plastic laminates and a firmly bonded assembly prepared thereby. In accordance with the disclosed method, two sheet like metal-plastic laminates, each of which has at least one layered edge portion, are firmly bonded together at said edge portions.
Abstract: The disclosure teaches an improvement in the filtration of molten metal especially aluminum using a removable vertically disposed filter plate and at least one fluxing gas inlet positioned in such a manner so as to introduce fluxing gas into the filter plate. The filter plate is provided with a bevelled peripheral surface mating with a like bevelled surface in a filter chamber so that the filter plate can be conveniently inserted in the chamber and removed therefrom. Fluxing gas is provided to the melt through the inlet and flows through the filter plate so as to assure extensive contact with the melt. Dissolved gases and non-metallic inclusions are thereby abstracted and removed from the melt.

Abstract: Alkali and alkaline earth metals are removed from light metal melts by causing the melt to flow through a bed consisting of granules of a mechanically resistant and chemically inert carrier particles which have a coating of carbon. A suitable granule is prepared by mixing particles of inert carrier material with a cokable carbonaceous material and heating the mixture in a closed reaction vessel to the carbonaceous material and produce an adherent coating of carbon on the carrier particles of the granulate. The density of the coated granules is greater than 2.5 g/cm.sup.3.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for the preparation of hollow plastic articles wherein improved temperature control of the parison is obtained by altering the heat content of a parison by a first, temperature controlled mold and core, transferring the parison to a second, temperature controlled mold, and substantially equalizing the temperature distribution of the parison by heat exchange with the second mold.
Abstract: A synthetic bearing lubricant prevents wear even under very high loads and is such that when it contaminates the rolling lubricant the rolled product is not stained. The bearing lubricant contains poly-isobutene, at least one ester of a C.sub.2 to C.sub.5 alcohol with an .alpha.-hydroxy-mono carboxylic acid or an .alpha.-hydroxy-dicarboxylic acid, and at least single or poly unsaturated C.sub.13 to C.sub.19 carboxylic acid.
Abstract: A method for sampling and controlling the addition of suspended gases, liquids and solids in a control stream to a process stream is disclosed wherein the surface area of the suspended material acts as the determining feature for control of the process. The measured surface area is compared with a preselected surface area to control the addition of the suspended material. This method is particularly useful for the control of particulate seed material to the process stream in the Bayer process for the production of alumina. The method is also broadly applicable to physical and/or chemical control means in an analytical scheme for controlling and monitoring any process.

Abstract: Multilayered, hollow plastic articles and method for making same are disclosed. The articles have a base portion, integral side walls and an integral open neck or rim portion. The articles also have an inner first layer of thermoplastic material and an outer second layer of pressure molded, thermoplastic material, wherein the inner layer includes a heat absorbing and/or dissipating base portion.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the preparation of hollow plastic articles wherein an improved injection blow molding process is obtained and improved temperature control of the parison is obtained by the use of a plurality of molds and cores. At least one temperature controlled mold and core is used to adjust the temperature of the parison. The temperature adjusted parison is then stretched and/or blown in at least one second mold by a second core, cooled therein and transferred by at least one third ejector core to additional finishing molds for further cooling or to removal means.
Abstract: The present invention resides in the manufacture of an AlMg alloy sheet with zinc addition which is readily deformable in the soft condition and especially suited for shaping into motor vehicle body components. The alloy sheet has a strength of at least 250 N/mm.sup.2, a grain size of less than 50 .mu.m and, after deformation has occurred, remains free of surface defects such as orange peel effect and Luders bands and also, after a possible influence of heat, remains insensitive to stress corrosion cracking. The zinc addition produces a widening of the working range so that after the last cold rolling operation the alloy can be soft annealed above the recrystallization temperature without coarse grains or Luders band appearing. The zinc addition produces an insensitivity with respect to stress corrosion cracking after a heterogenization annealing subsequent to the soft annealing, even after a sensitization at 150.degree. C. on a sheet which has been deformed with a cold reduction of 20% and more.
