  • Patent number: 7680599
Abstract: An explosive device detection system includes sensors and base station that detect and report on suspected Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) or landmine emplacement activity within a geographic area. When disposed within a geographic area, each sensor forms part of a wireless communications network which allows communication among neighboring sensors. As a sensor detects activity in its proximity, such as activity that indicates emplacement of an IED, the sensor transmits a reporting signal through the network to the base station. The neighboring sensors receive and transmit the reporting signal in a sequential manner toward the base station. Because the reporting signal takes multiple hops toward the base station, the sensors do not require large amounts of power to transmit the signal. Furthermore, the detection system allows detection of IED emplacement within the geographic area as the activity occurs.

  • Patent number: 7367891
Abstract: A torque limiting device includes a base configured to reside in a fixed position relative to a drive unit, an input shaft assembly configured to receive a torque load from the drive unit, and an output shaft assembly which is capable of rotating about an axis. The torque limiting device further includes detent members disposed adjacent to the input shaft assembly and the output shaft assembly. The detent members are configured to transition the torque limiting device between (i) a drive state in which the input shaft assembly rotates the output shaft assembly about the axis and (ii) a tripped state in which the input shaft assembly does not rotate the output shaft assembly about the axis depending on forces provided to the detent members, by the input shaft assembly, in respective radial directions away from the axis and toward the base.

  • Patent number: 7324535
Abstract: Typically, queues in a router device are used to track data information such as packets or data flows for later transmission to another downstream communication device. To reduce overhead associated with tracking an average queue length of a queue, a metric reflecting average queue length (or estimated queue length) is updated based on the occurrence of an event such as when the contents of the queue are modified. More specifically, if data is added or deleted from the queue, the metric reflecting an average fullness of the queue over time is updated at substantially the same time as updating the instantaneous queue length metric associated with the queue. This technique of synchronously updating both IQL and AQL simplifies the overall task of maintaining queue length information.

  • Patent number: 7290565
Abstract: A jet reflector servovalve includes a flexure tube and reflector that opposes a fluid nozzle and fluid receivers of the servovalve. During operation, the nozzle directs a pressurized fluid jet toward the reflector. The pressurized fluid travels within a second stage of the servovalve, toward the reflector. The reflector directs or reflects the fluid back toward the fluid receivers to adjust a position of a spool of the servovalve. The configuration of the reflector, the nozzle, and the receivers allows transmission of the pressurized fluid within the second stage of the servovalve and minimizes the necessity for multiple o-rings between the second stage of the servovalve and a torque motor of the servovalve, thereby reducing manufacturing costs of the servovalve.

  • Patent number: 7187547
Abstract: A data storage subsystem is configured to mount within a rack mount cabinet. The data storage subsystem includes a housing configured to mount to a set of vertical rails of the rack mount cabinet, a set of circuit boards configured to install in a vertically aligned manner within the housing to define a set of vertically oriented channels within a central space defined by the set of vertical rails of the rack mount cabinet, and a fan assembly configured to mount to the set of vertical rails in a position above the housing to generate a vertical air stream through the set of vertically oriented channels and to exhaust the vertical air stream to an external location above the rack mount cabinet. The vertical air stream enables robust heat removal from the set of circuit boards even if the rack mount cabinet does not reside in a cold-isle environment.
