Abstract: A beltway mechanism that takes advantage of atomic locking mechanisms supported by certain classes of hardware processors to handle the tasks that require atomic access to data structures while also reducing the overhead associated with these atomic locking mechanisms. The beltway mechanisms described herein can be used to control access to software and hardware facilities in an efficient manner.

Abstract: A system for transporting inventory items includes an inventory holder capable of storing inventory items and a mobile drive unit. The mobile drive unit is capable of moving to a first point with the inventory holder at least one of coupled to and supported by the mobile drive unit. The mobile drive unit is additionally capable of determining a location of the inventory holder and calculating a difference between the location of the inventory holder and the first point. The mobile drive unit is then capable of determining whether the difference is greater than a predetermined tolerance. In response to determining that the difference is greater than the predetermined tolerance, the mobile drive unit is also capable of moving to a second point based on the location of the inventory holder, docking with the inventory holder, and moving the mobile drive unit and the inventory holder to the first point.

Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing problems and disadvantages associated with traditional approaches to masking false faults generated by voltage regulators are provided. A method may include receiving, at a voltage regulator configured to be enabled by a power controller communicatively coupled to the voltage regulator via an enable line, a first indication from a device other than the power controller indicating that the voltage regulator is to be disabled, wherein the enable line is configured to communicate a second indication from the power controller to the voltage regulator indicating whether the voltage regulator is to be enabled. In response to receipt of the first signal, the voltage regulator may communicate to the power controller via the enable line, a third indication indicating that the voltage regulator has been disabled by a device other than the power controller.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for forming defects on graphitic materials. The methods for forming defects include applying a radiation reactive material on a graphitic material, irradiating the applied radiation reactive material to produce a reactive species, and permitting the reactive species to react with the graphitic material to form defects. Additionally, disclosed are methods for removing defects on graphitic materials.

Abstract: A sheet tray unit includes a particular feed tray configured to hold one or more sheets therein, and a discharge tray disposed on the particular feed tray and configured to receive a discharged sheet. The discharge tray includes a first discharge tray portion, a second discharge tray portion, and a third discharge tray portion. The first discharge tray portion is configured to support the second discharge tray portion such that the second discharge tray portion selectively slides in a first direction and in a second direction, which is opposite and substantially parallel to the first direction. The second discharge tray portion is configured to support the third discharge tray portion such that the third discharge tray portion selectively slides in the first direction and in the second direction. The first discharge tray portion includes a stopper configured to limit the third discharge tray portion from sliding in the first direction beyond a predetermined position.

Abstract: In certain embodiments, an apparatus includes a rectifier and a switch. The rectifier is configured to modulate a received carrier signal. The switch is coupled to at least one node of the rectifier. The switch is configured to modify an impedance of the rectifier to modulate the received carrier signal by providing a potential to the at least one node of the rectifier based on a field strength of the received carrier signal and a modulation-control signal.

Abstract: A method for powering on an information handling system (IHS) includes receiving a power request signal from a video display in communication with the IHS. The methods further includes determining that the power request signal is a response to a power-on signal for the video display, and powering on the IHS by sending the power-on signal to a power controller of the IHS.

The first tank includes: a liquid storage chamber for storing therein a liquid to be supplied to the liquid-drop ejection head; a gas chamber formed above the liquid storage chamber in a first direction; a communication hole connecting the liquid storage chamber and the gas chamber; a gas-permeable membrane affixed to an inner surface of the gas chamber so as to cover the communication hole; and a first groove formed on the inner surface of the gas chamber so as to surround an area where the gas-permeable membrane is affixed. The second tank is for storing therein a liquid to be supplied to the liquid storage chamber in the first tank. The negative pressure generation unit which is configured to generate a negative pressure in the gas chamber.

The ink cartridge also includes an ink supply portion configured to dispense ink from an interior of the ink chamber to an exterior of the ink chamber, and a sealing portion positioned at the particular wall. A predetermined portion of the sealing portion is configured to selectively cover a first portion of the opening. Moreover, the ink cartridge includes a protrusion positioned at the particular wall, in which the protrusion is configured to selectively cover a second portion of the opening, and a predetermined portion of the protrusion is configured to be selectively connected to the predetermined portion of the sealing portion.

Abstract: In accordance with the present disclosure, a system and method for a managed BIOS is disclosed. A software for a BIOS in an information handling system is provided on a computer readable medium. A first code, for execution on a central processing unit (CPU), is operable to initiate a connection to a management controller through a controller, send a message to the management controller through the controller, and receive a message from the management controller through the controller in response to a system management interrupt. The first code is also operable to stall a power-on procedure if it is able to determine a plurality of bootable devices before the connection to the management controller is ready. The first code is further operable to stall the power-on procedure before releasing control to an operating system if the management controller is active.

Abstract: A storage device includes a case configured to mount a liquid container. The storage device includes: a lever configured to move among a first position, a second position, and a third position between the first position and the second position; a first member movable between a protruding position to restrict an insertion of the liquid container at a particular position, and a retracted position that allows the liquid container to be inserted to a mounted position; a link member configured to change the position of the first member from the protruding position to the retracted position when the lever moves from the first position to the third position; and a second member. When a liquid container which is pre-assigned to the case is inserted into the case, the second member allows a positional change of the lever from the first position to the third position.

Abstract: A suite of novel structures and methods is provided to reduce power consumption in a wide array of electronic devices and systems. Some of these structures and methods can be implemented largely by reusing existing bulk CMOS process flows and manufacturing technology, allowing the semiconductor industry as well as the broader electronics industry to avoid a costly and risky switch to alternative technologies. As will be discussed, some of the structures and methods relate to a Deeply Depleted Channel (DDC) design, allowing CMOS based devices to have a reduced ?VT compared to conventional bulk CMOS and can allow the threshold voltage VT of FETs having dopants in the channel region to be set much more precisely. The DDC design also can have a strong body effect compared to conventional bulk CMOS transistors, which can allow for significant dynamic control of power consumption in DDC transistors.

Abstract: In an IP telephone terminal, a function implementation controlling unit is configured so as to be capable of controlling implementation of a function instructed by a file received via IP telephone communications when the communicating unit receives the file. The configuration data storing unit stores configuration data that is used by the function implementation controlling unit to implement the function. The configuration data acquisition controlling unit performs control to acquire configuration data from the configuration data storing unit when a communicating unit receives a read file that is transmitted from an external IP telephone terminal. The response file generation controlling unit performs control to generate a response file including the configuration data. The response file transmission controlling unit controls a communicating unit to transmit the response file to the external IP telephone terminal that has transmitted the read file.

Abstract: A system and method are herein disclosed for managing memory defects in an information handling system. More particularly, a system and method are described for generating a usable memory map which excludes memory locations containing defect memory elements. In an information handling system, a memory defect map, which contains information about the location of defective memory elements, is coupled to the memory device. As a map of memory usable by the system is created, usable memory regions containing defective memory elements are excluded from the memory map. The memory map is passed to the operating system, which uses only those regions of memory designated as usable and non-defective.

Abstract: A cache server (18) may prefetch one or more web pages (30) from an origin server (16) prior to those web pages being requested by a user (13). The cache server determines which web pages to prefetch based on a graph (42) associated with a prefetch module (40) associated with the cache server. The graph represents all or a portion of the web pages at the origin server using one or more nodes (130) and one or more links (100) connecting the nodes. Each link has an associated transaction weight (102) and user weight (104). The transaction weight represents the importance of the link and associated web page to the origin server and may be used to control the prefetching of web pages by the cache server. The user weight may be used to change a priority (46) associated with a request (22) for a web page. The user weight and transaction weight may change based on criteria (50) associated with the origin server.

Abstract: The invention includes a universal retractable handle assembly for attachment to luggage items of a variety of different sizes. A plurality of tubes having a fixed length can be attached to a bracket member such that each tube can extend in a telescoping manner to a different distance from the bracket member when the handle is in the extended position and thus be employed in different sizes of luggage. Additionally, a tube housing is provided which includes a tube receiving portion and reinforcing portions on an outer surface of the tube housing. The tube receiving portion is formed with an arcuate shape which corresponds with the shape of the tube member to be inserted therein. The reinforcing portions include a plurality of planar flanges which extend beyond the outer surface of the tube receiving portion to provide improved structural characteristics.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for RF access to system identification and fault information is disclosed. In one aspect, the present disclosure teaches a method of accessing system information in an information handling system including storing system information in a computer component forming a part of an information handling system. The method further includes receiving a request for at least a portion of the system information via a radio frequency identification (“RF”) transponder link. The method further includes automatically transmitting a response from the computer component via the RFID transponder link such that the response includes the at least a portion of the system information.

The air introduction portion includes an air communication passage, and a blocking member positioned in the air communication passage and configured to block the air communication passage. The air introduction portion also includes a movable member positioned in the air communication passage and configured to move toward the blocking member, such that blockage of the air communication passage by the blocking member is released. The movable member includes an air passage formed therethrough, and the air passage is in fluid communication with the air communication passage. The air introduction portion further includes a gas-permeable film positioned on the movable member and closing the air passage.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods of producing L-lysine at a high yield using an Escherichia bacterium, especially E. coli, comprising a wild type or variant dapA gene of B. subtilis. The invention also provides related recombinant Escherichia bacteria, especially E. coli, for use to produce L-lysine.
