Abstract: A compression pin for urging two bone regions together includes a pin body having a distal end, an opposed proximal end, a first threaded region, and a second threaded region. The first threaded region is positioned near the distal end, and the second threaded region is positioned near the first threaded region. The first threaded region includes a first thread having a FT leading surface that is at a FT leading angle, and the second threaded region includes a second thread having a ST leading surface that is at a ST leading angle that is different than the FT leading angle. During insertion of the compression pin, the first threaded region and the second threaded region cooperate to aggressively compress the bone regions together.

Abstract: A multi-piece head suspension assembly is manufactured from a semi-finished suspension product. The semi-finished suspension product includes a load beam having two side edges, a distal end, and a proximal end opposite the distal end. The semi-finished suspension product also includes a beam carrier strip connected to the proximal end by one or more tabs. Each tab includes a detaching region that has a lower shear strength than other regions of the tab. Rails are formed on the side edges of the load beam, and the semi-finished suspension product is attached to a hinge assembly at the proximal end of the load beam. A shear load is applied to the one or more tabs to cause the one or more tabs to fracture at the detaching region.

Abstract: A head suspension for supporting a head slider over a storage media in a dynamic storage device is provided with a head suspension component having a spring metal layer, an electrically conductive layer and a dielectric layer interposed between the metal layer and the electrically conductive layer. A plurality of electrically conductive traces with bond pads are formed in the electrically conductive layer. A feature datum is also formed in the electrically conductive layer on a detachable carrier strip. The feature datum defines a first edge in the electrically conductive layer parallel to an edge of the bond pads.
Abstract: A coupling for a connector for fluid pipes includes a female base in which a male end-piece is inserted to produce a sealed connection. An elastically deformable C-shaped metal wire spring immobilizes the end-piece in the base. A locking sleeve is movable axially around the spring and the base between a first axial position in which the spring can deform radially towards the outside of the base, and a second axial position prohibiting the radial deformation of the spring. The sleeve has at least one radial interior recess into which the spring retracts when deformed by the end-piece in the first position. Each recess is offset axially with respect to the spring in the second position, preventing the radial deformation of the spring and thereby safeguarding the sealed connection.
Abstract: The invention concerns an anti-scratch coating on a substrate, comprising one or several anti-scratch means and a pH buffer system which has in a watery solution a pH value ranging from neutral to highly alkaline, especially a pH value ranging between app. 7 and app. 12, preferably a pH value ranging from neutral to slightly alkaline, in particular a pH value ranging between app. 7 and app. 9. It is also the objective of the invention to produce and use the anti-scratch coating.
Abstract: A hand-operated surgical instrument with sequentially engaged tip closing guides. The instrument includes first and second arms having tips that close during a closure operation. A slotted tip closure guide on the arms engages first during the closure operation. A pin closure guide on the arms between the slotted closure guide and the tips engages during the closure operation after the engagement of the slotted closure guide. The sequential engagement of the guides provides precise approximation of the instrument tips and prevents “scissoring” of the tips.

Abstract: A method of assembling a compressor, including assembling, first as a subassembly external of the compressor housing, portions of the motor-compressor unit, including a crankcase, mount brackets, stator, outboard bearing assembly, and drive shaft. Thereafter, the motor-compressor unit subassembly is inserted into a first end of the housing, and the housing is shrink-fit around the subassembly. The mount brackets may then be welded to the interior surface of the housing. Once the mount brackets are welded to the housing, the remainder of the components of the motor-compressor unit, including the orbiting scroll member, the Oldham coupling, and the fixed scroll member, are then assembled to the motor-compressor unit subassembly and the housing through a second end of the housing opposite the first end, followed by welding the top and bottom caps to the housing.
Abstract: A gas burner assembly includes a first sheet, a second sheet, and a conduit. The first sheet has an inner face, an outer face, an upper portion, and a lower portion. The second sheet also has an inner face, an outer face, an upper portion and a lower portion. The first and second sheets are secured relative to one another such that the first and second sheets are separated by a gap that defines a manifold between the inner faces of the first and second sheets with an elongate opening between the upper portions of the first and second sheets, the opening forming an outlet from the manifold. The conduit is in communication with the manifold, the conduit being adapted for connection to a source of gas.

Abstract: An article of furniture having a construction adapted to efficiently accommodate electrical components. The article of furniture includes a frame or chassis having support leg assemblies, and a beam connected to the support leg assemblies to which a channel is mounted. The support leg assemblies include work surface supports which support work surfaces at adjustable heights above the channel, and a gap between the work surfaces allows access to the electrical system within the channel. The electrical system is modular in design, and includes a series of components that may be connected to one another in a manner that the location of electrical outlet modules may be easily adjusted. The channel has a plurality of knock-out openings which may be selectively used for locating electrical outlets at any desired position along the channel.
Abstract: Methods for ultrasonically joining portions of a medical lead are provided. One method includes providing a conductor, a fitting and a coil electrode. The conductor has a distal portion that includes an inner conductive portion and an outer insulative portion. The fitting has a first cavity and a second cavity, the first cavity being sized and configured to receive the distal portion of the conductor and the second cavity being sized and configured to receive a portion of the coil electrode. The conductor is ultrasonically welded within the first opening, providing a mechanical and electrical attachment. The coil electrode is also electrically coupled to the fitting, providing an electrical pathway from the conductor to the coil electrode. Also provided are medical leads including ultrasonic bonds and other methods of ultrasonically joining portions of a medical lead.
Abstract: A prosthesis has prosthetic components principally comprising metallic materials, in which a portion of an articular interface between respective components is a metallic-nonmetallic interface. At least a portion of the articular surface of a femoral head may include a ceramic material defining an articulation zone, such as at a polar region of the femoral head, so that the ceramic articulates with a metallic acetabular liner. The area covered by the ceramic may be engineered to optimize the contact conditions between the femoral head and the acetabular liner, such as by providing two clearances therebetween. A relatively smaller, polar articulation clearance is defined by the gap between the ceramic coating and the metallic acetabular liner. A relatively larger, equatorial non-articulation clearance between the femoral head and the acetabular liner is defined by the gap between the portion of the femoral head not covered by the ceramic coating.

Abstract: A method of stimulating ethanol production and growth of aquatic plants includes the steps of placing aquatic plants in a cell containing water and creating an anoxic condition within the pool to initiate an anaerobic process by the aquatic plants. The aquatic plants increase in size and release ethanol by metabolism of stored carbohydrates during the anaerobic process. An oxygenated condition is then created within the cell to initiate an aerobic process. The aquatic plants create and store carbohydrates during the aerobic process. The steps of creating anoxic and oxygenated conditions are repeated to stimulate increased aquatic plant size and to increase the release of ethanol.
