  • Patent number: 4750896
Abstract: A mechanism and method for producing relatively low density pad-like cushioning dunnage product from sheet-like stock material. The mechanism takes the sheet-like stock material from a multi-ply roll thereof and changes it into a pad-like cushioning dunnage product having lateral pillow-like portions connected together along the generally central portion of the product.A separating mechanism for separating the sheets of stock material as they move from the stock roll toward the forming frame and the converging member is provided, together with a transversely extending roller disposed ahead of the separating mechanism whereby the point of commencement of entry of the multi-ply sheet-like stock material toward the separating mechanism remains constant irrespective of the diameter of the stock roll.An alternate, multi-ply stock roll comprising a thicker gauge but lesser width web with a plurality of wider webs or sheets is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4744473
Abstract: A knock-down merchandise display unit adapted for use as an end cap device for an elongated merchandise display structure, and comprising a plurality of generally vertically spaced trays having pockets formed therein for receiving and displaying merchandise, with the trays being vertically spaced with respect to one another by separate spacer members supporting the trays in spaced relation. The spacer members provide for either lateral offsetting the trays with respect to one another so that the trays are disposed in a generally terraced arrangement, or for generally aligning the trays vertically with respect to one another, to thus obtain a plurality of possible orientational and visual effects for the display unit.

  • Patent number: 4738521
Abstract: A lens for use in indirect ophthalmoscopy having two functions; firstly as a condensing lens converging light from an ophthalmoscope light source to the pupil of the eye and thereby illuminating the fundus of the eye, and secondly and simultaneously as an image forming lens which forms an aerial image of the fundus of the eye, which image is viewed monocularly with a monocular indirect ophthalmoscope or binocularly and stereoscopically with a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope.

  • Patent number: 4721378
Abstract: This invention pertains to a novel compact hand-held optical system whch is used both as a light condenser and as an aerial image former in the examination of the fundus of the eye with the indirect ophthalmoscope and with the slit lamp biomicroscope. The novel optical system has the unique feature that the aerial image of the fundus produced by it is upright rather than inverted as in the present state of the art with hand-held indirect ophthalmoscopy lenses. The novel optical system consists of three coaxial air-spaced double aspheric lenses which are so designed and positioned as to converge the illuminating light beam from the light source such that an image of said source is formed at the center of the pupil of the examined eye, the light then diverging from said image to illuminate the fundus of the eye.

  • Patent number: 4717613
Abstract: A cushioning dunnage producing mechanism and method wherein the mechanism utilizes one or more webs of sheet-like stock material, with the stock material being adapted to be disposed by the mechanism in generally superimposed relation and then fed into a crumpler section of tubular-like construction, to radially compress the sheet-like material into a pad-like dunnage product. The lateral edges of the stock material are caused to be rolled inwardly into generally spiral-like form, prior to passage of the stock material into the crumpler section, by a forming frame of generally triangular-like shape both in plan and in side elevation, with the nose of the forming frame being disposed closely adjacent the entranceway to the crumpler section. Meshed spur gears coacting with the crumpler section, coin or stitch the confronting portions of the rolled edges of stock material together, to hold the produced dunnage product in a pad-like configuration.

  • Patent number: 4713863
Abstract: A reuseable open type clamp comprising an arcuate-like strap having two generally opposing, spaced ends, each of which has been bent outwardly of the general periphery of the clamp, to form first and second ears with one of the ears having an aperture therein and the other of the ears having a projection thereon extending outwardly from its respective ear, with the projection being adapted to be received in the aperture in the closed condition of the clamp, to hold the strap in closed clamping condition. Removal of the projection from the aperture enables the clamp to spring to open position due to the nature resiliency of the strap portion.

  • Patent number: 4710193
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved aspheric posterior chamber intraocular lens and lens series of said novel intraocular lens, which lens is used as a replacement within the eye for the absent human crystalline lens, and a simplified method of selecting a lens from said lens series for use in a given eye. The novel lens of this invention is designed to have a continuously and regularly increasing refractive power from its axis peripheralward in its optically active area and to achieve the following results: the correction of the axial refractive error of the aphakic eye in which it is placed, and the production of clear central vision over a continuous range of distances from far to near, where far is defined as six meters and beyond, and near or reading distance is defined as generally 40 cm from the eye but may be as close as 33 cm.

  • Patent number: 4705920
Abstract: An electrical switch actuated by a longitudinally reciprocable electrical contact carrier, with such reciprocation being brought about by a two-piece rocker actuator with one of the actuator pieces comprising a removable locking key which when removed from the actuator assembly prevents movement of the contact carrier and thus prevents actuation of the switch.

  • Patent number: 4696292
Abstract: A cutting tool for preparing a femur for the receipt of an implantable prosthesis comprising a rotatable drive member adapted for removable coupling to a motor unit of a power assembly, with the tool being adapted to be received interiorly of the intramedullary canal of the femur and including a cylindrical-like cutter secured to the drive member for cutting into a confronting interior surface of the femur canal, together with shoulders on both sides of the cutter for limiting the depth of groove produced by the cutter upon rotation of the tool and movement of the cutter laterally into engagement with the canal surface. The canal is adapted to receive surgical cement in which the prosthesis is embedded, and with the cement entering the formed grooves in the interior surface of the canal for aiding in firmly anchoring the prosthesis in the canal upon hardening of the cement. A novel method for preparing the femur for the receipt of an implantable prosthesis by forming grooves therein is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4686930
Abstract: A sprinkle belt that is operable in a breading machine for coating food products with various kinds of flour type breading to insure that the top coating is evenly applied and relatively light rather than a heavy or clumpy coating as normally applied by present breading machines. As herein disclosed, the preferred embodiment of sprinkle belt comprises an endless wire mesh belt movably disposed in a breading machine of the type disclosed in the assignee's copending application entitled Breading Machine, Ser. No. 421,169 filed on Sept. 22, 1982 now U.S. Pat. No. 4,496,084, and which belt is operable to intercept the discharge of flour breading from the machine hopper as it falls toward food products passing therebelow to disperse said discharged breading into a cloud-like curtain that is substantially evenly and relatively lightly applied as a top coating to the food product.
