Patent number: 4125811Abstract: A circuit for multiplying two variables wherein one variable is represented by the pulse width of the pulses of a variable pulse width, constant frequency rectangular waveform signal and the second variable is represented by the level of a variable amplitude signal. When the value of the first variable is zero, pulses of the rectangular waveform signal have a definite non-zero pulse width. An oscillator cicuit produces a reference rectangular waveform signal having a frequency equal to that of the first rectangular waveform signal. From these two rectangular waveform signals there is developed a third rectangular waveform signal having the same frequency but having the width of its pulses directly proportional to the value of the first variable so that the pulses are of zero width when the first variable is zero.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1977Date of Patent: November 14, 1978Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventor: LaVerne A. Patent number: 4114574Abstract: An electronic spark timing advance controller for variably controlling the degree of advance or retardation of the firing event of an internal combustion engine integrates an engine speed signal to produce a signal, which is proportional to engine angular position and is reset at a predetermined reference point or angular position of the engine prior to the firing of each cylinder of the engine. A signal, which is proportional to a predetermined firing angle of the engine, is compared with the engine angular position signal to produce an output signal, which is supplied to spark generating means to produce a spark when the compared signals have a predetermined relation to each other. Additional signals, which vary in accordance with a predetermined engine speed advance characteristic and a predetermined engine vacuum advance characteristic, affect the comparison to vary the firing angle of the engine in accordance with the corresponding engine operating parameters.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1976Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventor: George E. Patent number: 4104998Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine provides controlled engine spark timing which is a function of a plurality of individual timing signals. These individual signals include a throttle advance signal, a programmed vacuum advance signal, a break-idle advance signal, an engine start advance signal, an engine speed advance signal and a fixed timing signal. These signals are algebraically summed together to develop a resultant spark timing signal representing desired spark timing. Individual signals are derived from transducer circuits which are responsive to various engine operating and/or ambient conditions. The throttle advance signal is a function of both a throttle position signal and a throttle rate signal and provides increasing advance as the throttle increasingly opens. It is also attenuated as the temperature of ambient air entering the engine for combustion increases.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1975Date of Patent: August 8, 1978Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventor: Gordon W. Fenn

Patent number: 4102311Abstract: An integrator circuit is reset at predetermined engine crank angles to develop a sawtooth waveform representing engine crank angle. A comparator circuit, including an adjustable, voltage source output, is connected in a closed feedback loop around the integrator to regulate the peak of the sawtooth to a predetermined magnitude which is independent of engine speed, and, hence, independent of the sawtooth frequency. The analog output of the comparator represents engine speed. An adjustable calibration resistor in the integrator adjusts the integrator output to secure a desired relationship between the output of the comparator circuit and the frequency of the sawtooth. The complete circuit requires only two operational amplifiers and a small number of passive circuit elements.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1975Date of Patent: July 25, 1978Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventors: Frederick William Crall, Lawrence William Tomczak, LaVerne Andrew Caron
