  • Patent number: 8348679
Abstract: A junction box has a PCB, on which fuses, relays, and a control and communication unit are mounted. The PCB is provided with upper and lower surfaces, on which a first connector and a second connector are respectively positioned. Further, the junction box includes a cover covering the PCB in such a way as to expose the fuses, the first connector, and the second connector. Since the fuses, the relays, and the control and communication unit are mounted on a single board, the junction box reduces manufacturing costs of the board, reduces size and weight of the board, and effectively performs communication with external electronic modules.

  • Patent number: 8336570
Abstract: A high-pressure fluid conduit that conducts high-pressure fluid from a high-pressure fluid source to a high-pressure fluid container. This high-pressure fluid conduit has a safety feature that is activated when the high-pressure fluid conduit fails due to exposure to a predetermined force. The safety feature is activated by the fracture of an annular ring that is positioned at either end of the high-pressure fluid conduit and is calibrated to fracture when exposed to the predetermined force. Fracture of the annular ring closes valves at each end of the high-pressure fluid conduit, thereby stopping the flow of high-pressure fluid from the high-pressure fluid source as well as the escape of high-pressure fluid from the high-pressure fluid container.

  • Patent number: 8276463
Abstract: A shear stress sensor for measuring the shear force of a fluid flowing along a wall. A floating member, flush with the wall, senses a shear force of the flowing fluid. The floating member is mounted by support means to a base element that is placed in the wall, so that the floating member is flush with the wall and a shear force, sensed by the floating member, is translated via the support means to a Fiber Bragg Grating. The force acting on the Fiber Bragg Grating changes the shape and the refractive index of the Fiber Bragg Grating, thereby changing the resonant frequency of the Fiber Bragg Grating and causing a shift in the spectrum of wavelengths of light that is introduced to the Fiber Bragg Grating. This shift in the spectrum of wavelengths is representative of the shear force of the flowing fluid.

  • Patent number: 8280646
Abstract: A method of offsetting carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions includes the steps of capturing CO2 emissions data from a vehicle, transmitting the emissions data to a data collection unit, which then stores collected CO2 data and prepares a CO2 emission report. The CO2 emission report is used in preparing a customized CO2 offsetting package, which is selected by a vehicle owner. The selected CO2 offsetting package offsets the CO2 emissions through purchased credits, which neutralize the CO2 released from the vehicle. The owner of the package is given a visual indicator exhibiting that the vehicle is currently carbon neutral.
