  • Patent number: 5560342
Abstract: An electric fuel pump and valve-controlled canister reservoir assembly mounted directly in a vehicle fuel tank with a pump main fuel inlet connected with a primary fuel filter disposed in the bottom of the tank. A pump fuel outlet supplies fuel for a vehicle engine and communicates through an engine bypass system with the canister reservoir to accumulate a reserve supply of fuel. The reservoir canister communicates with the pump inlet through a secondary filter and an inertia/gravity-activated valve module having a free rolling activator ball and associated can-like valve member cooperative with a large diameter annular valve seat to provide a sensitive valve with a large flow controlling cross-sectional area. The valve module thus provides an auxiliary supply of fuel to the pump inlet, preferably in bypass flow relation to the primary in-tank filter, and at a high flow rate when there is an interruption of fuel from the tank to the primary filter caused by adverse vehicle motion and/or orientation.

  • Patent number: 5559713
Abstract: A chip buildup detection and control apparatus having a flow transducer and flow monitor to measure and monitor coolant flow to a cutter of a machine tool for detecting excessive chip buildup on the cutter and removing the buildup on the cutter which decreases machining cycle time while increasing cutter life and machine tool production. Excessive chip buildup on the cutter is detected when coolant flow to the cutter drops below a minimum flow rate limit. Buildup is removed upon detection by initiating a "pecking" cycle where the cutter is retracted from its position of engagement with the workpiece being machined for a predetermined dwell period of time. The machining cycle is aborted if coolant flow does not rise above the minimum limit by the end of the dwell period. If coolant flow rises above the minimum flow limit, the cutter is advanced almost to its previous position of engagement with the workpiece and machining is resumed.

  • Patent number: 5556414
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a novel composite prosthesis comprises a vein and a cylindrical-shaped member. The vein is a vein segment removed from a patient and the cylindrical-shaped member, preferably an expandable stent, is glued, sutured, or in some other fashion affixed to the outside surface of the vein. The vein segment of the combination is referred to as a vein graft or vein implant to distinguish it from the vascular structure into which it is inserted as a part of the combination. This composite prosthesis is then introduced inside a body passageway, such as diseased arterial segment or inside a saphenous vein graft segment which by-passes an arterial segment. It may be introduced by placement over a balloon catheter. When the balloon is inflated the stent and vein graft expand. The stent prevents recoil and keeps the vein graft tissue in place, while the vein graft forms a new inner lining for the vessel.

  • Patent number: 5546692
Abstract: A deer decoy comprising a plastic body having opposed sides, each side simulating the rear end of a standing deer. A tail is associated with each side. The tails are mounted on a common shaft for bodily rotation about an axis near their upper ends such that the tails are gravitationally biased to normally hang in a position simulating a natural relaxed condition of repose. • Patent number: 5548251
Abstract: A low noise high-frequency clock generator using a low speed voltage controlled oscillator which includes 2m differential delay elements connected in series in an inverting configuration, where m is an integer greater than 0. The output of the 2mth delay element is coupled to the input of the first delay element in a non-inverting configuration. M 2-input exclusive NOR gates are provided wherein respective input pairs are taken from positive terminal inputs of adjacent delay elements. The clock generator also includes an m-input OR gate coupled to the m-outputs from the respective m exclusive NOR gates for generating the clock generator output signal. The delay elements have a variable delay associated therewith controlled by a control delay signal DCS. Changes in the delay associated with each delay element changes the frequency of the clock generator output signal wherein the output frequency is equal to 1/(2d), where d is the time delay associated with each delay element.

  • Patent number: 5544494
Abstract: Refrigerant is purified by circulating the refrigerant in a closed path from a first refrigerant container through a filter/dryer unit back to the first refrigerant container. Air and other non-condensibles are purged from the refrigerant in the first storage container during this refrigerant circulation process. Following the non-condensible purging operation, the refrigerant in the first container is transferred through a filter/dryer unit into a second refrigerant container. This second refrigerant container is evacuated prior to transferring the purified refrigerant thereto. Capacity of the filter/dryer unit is monitored, either by monitoring time of operation of the refrigerant pump or monitoring wetness of the circulated refrigerant with the sight gauge.
