  • Patent number: 5743129
Abstract: A sheet bending brake and stabilizing assembly wherein the sheet bending brake alone is constructed and arranged such that when a workpiece is clamped for bending when a person stands on the floor facing the handle means and the handle means is grasped and raised in a direction away from the person in order to move the handle means and raise the handles means, forces occur which prevent the handle means from moving sufficiently to produce a predetermined bend and the forces causes the entire sheet bending brake to tip away from the person about the portions of the legs which project outwardly from said bending brake and thus prevent the movement of the bending member relative to the first member and prevent bending of the workpiece. The stabilizing assembly for counteracting such forces on the sheet bending brake comprises transversely spaced rails receiving at least a portion of the ends of the leg assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5741875
Abstract: In this disclosure, there are provided materials which completely degrade in the environment far more rapidly than pure synthetic plastics but which possesses the desirable properties of a thermoplastic: strength, impact resistance, stability to aqueous acid or base, and deformation at higher temperatures. There is provided a method for using the degradable plastic materials in preparing strong, moldable solids. There is further provided a method of making and applications for macromolecular, surface active agents that change the wetting behavior of lignin-containing materials. • Patent number: 5740783
Abstract: A fuel delivery system and method for providing fuel to a fuel injected engine using an engine control unit (ECU) to determine engine fuel demand and adjust fuel pump operation accordingly to supply at least as much fuel as demanded by the engine. The ECU determines a fuel pump control signal based upon fuel demand and applies the signal to a fuel pump driver that controllably drives the pump in response to the control signal. The ECU determines fuel demand by monitoring engine operation and calculates a control signal that controls the duration of time the fuel injector stays open during an upcoming intake stroke of engine operation. The pump control signal is proportional to engine fuel demand multiplied by a constant that ensures more fuel will be available for delivery to the injector than demanded by the engine. Engine fuel demand is proportional to the duration of time the injector will stay open multiplied by the engine speed.

  • Patent number: 5742234
Abstract: Apparatus for monitoring particles in fluid systems in which a detector has electrical contacts that are bridged by particles captured from suspension in the fluid. Upon detection of a particle, a control microprocessor stores a predetermined quantity of electrical energy on a capacitor, which is then discharged through an inductor to burn off the particle at the detector. The burn-off charge and return lines from the charge storage capacitor are un-grounded, and are connected by respective electronic switches through relay contacts to the conductors connected to the chip detector. The relay contacts are also connected to the inputs of a differential amplifier for detecting presence of a chip bridging the detector contacts and monitoring continuity of the conductors to and from the detector. The relay is powered by system voltage, and in the event of system power failure connects the chip detectors directly to warning lamps on an operator panel.

  • Patent number: 5735029
Abstract: An arbor mill machine which performs multiple machining operations on a workpiece in one work station. A rotatable tool turret carries a plurality of arbor cutting tools each of which can be indexed into the work station for performing a machining operation on a workpiece carried by a slide which advances the workpiece into the arbor tool and retracts the workpiece from it. A single drive spindle carried by a slide is advanced to releasably engage and drive the arbor tool in the work station to machine the workpiece and is retracted to release and disengage the arbor tool so that it can be removed from the work station when the turret is indexed to advance another arbor tool into the work station to perform another machining operation on the workpiece. The turret is releasably locked to prevent it from rotating while an arbor tool is machining a workpiece and is released between machining operations to permit indexing of the turret to position another arbor tool in the work station.

  • Patent number: 5735384
Abstract: An endless accumulating conveyor has upper and lower guide rails for supporting pallets. An endless roller chain has an upper run extending along the upper guide rails and a lower run extending along the lower guide rails. A dogging device on each pallet is engageable between the rollers of the chain to move the pallet with the chain along the upper and lower runs. A friction clutch for the dogging device of each pallet causes the dogging device to release and slip past the rollers of the chain when the pallet encounters a predetermined resistance to movement, as when it is desired to accumulate pallets. Mechanism is provided for positively propelling each pallet over the curved section at both ends of the conveyor from one run to the other without slipping.

  • Patent number: 5737511
Abstract: A method and apparatus for effecting repair or replacement of defective circuits in a solid state memory chip that includes the use of logic circuits to replace the fuse circuits. Included in the method and apparatus for effecting repair of defective circuits is a circuit for switching redundancy spare cells in place of main wordline cells. A logic circuit is used in order to reduce the chip size by getting rid of a fuse in the X-decoder. When a redundancy circuit is used, the logic circuit automatically generates a RM signal to control the X7 predecoder to turn off the main wordline.

  • Patent number: 5736771
Abstract: A multi-level memory cell structure, and a method of fabrication thereby is disclosed. In a mask ROM memory device, the conventional binary data storage cell is replaced with a 16-level data storage cell. The 16-level cell is programmed with a selected one of 16 values by forming a void in a portion of the word line over the memory cell having one of 16 widths corresponding to the preselected code to be stored therein. The portion of the word line associated with the coded memory cell has an effective remaining width corresponding to the preselected code. When the memory cell is enabled by activating its associated word line, due to the variable width of the word line forming the gate of the memory cell, one of 16 discrete currents flow in the 16-level memory cell structure. The current is indicative of the preselected code stored in the cell.

  • Patent number: 5734212
Abstract: A preformed plastic housing encloses a pair of coils and a capacitor of a radio frequency interference (RFI) circuit for an electric motor of a fuel pump. The housing has a base and a cover which, when mated, provide a secure fit between the electrical circuit components and the housing. The preformed housing can accommodate different RFI circuits and is significantly less costly to manufacture than an overmolded RFI module. A grounding strap is connected to the input side of one coil and the capacitor adjacent an input terminal to the circuit to significantly lower the RFI levels in the circuit.

  • Patent number: 5729899
Abstract: A lightweight composite tubular camshaft having an array of cams positioned therealong and method of making same wherein an array of blind predrilled holes into an outer surface of a hollow camshaft tube keyway. Each cam has a keyway groove opening to one side of, and to the inner surface of, a cam through-bore preformed for mounting close fitting on the tube at a preselected tube hole cam location to provide a desired angular orientation timing of the cams upon assembly on the tube. One end of a timing pin key is inserted in each blind hole and the opposite pin end protrudes therefrom. Each cam is slid into its axial location with its groove engaging the pin protruding end to locate the cam in its desired angular orientation. The cams are then permanently locked in position by permanent deformation expansion of the tube into interference engagement with the respective cams.

  • Patent number: 5727529
Abstract: A bypass pressure control unit for use in bypass relation to a fuel delivery line of a pump operated fuel delivery system for an internal combustion engine. The unit includes a housing that encloses a flexible diaphragm valve for defining with the housing a first bypass outlet chamber and a second fuel inlet chamber. The housing has a fuel inlet for communicating the second chamber with the fuel delivery line. The regulating valve is a flexible diaphragm membrane biased by a spring into direct engagement with a relatively large diameter valve seat formed in the housing so that the diaphragm itself acts as a valve member. The diaphragm is movable against spring force by a given pressure of fuel in the second chamber to disengage the diaphragm from the valve seat to thereby communicate the second chamber with the bypass fuel outlet. In one embodiment, the fuel outlet is formed in the housing and has a restricted orifice downstream of the valve seat.
