Abstract: Mulching apparatus having a tapered tooth structure which prepares a planting spot such that, when the apparatus is withdrawn from the ground, mulched residue remains within or adjacent to the planting spot. The apparatus may be removably attached to the boom of an excavator type vehicle and drivingly coupled to the vehicle's hydraulic drive system. The machine operator actuates and manoeuvres the vehicle, boom and mulching apparatus to rapidly prepare a series of mulch-containing planting spots for planting seeds or seedlings, for example in large scale reforestation projects.

Abstract: This invention pertains to a novel adjustable formwork system which can be used in the manufacture of a wide range of structurally efficient cross-sectional shaped concrete beams, columns and structures. A cast-in-place concrete beam form comprising: (a) at least two spatially oriented upper sleeves, with an upper web located on one side of the two sleeves, and extending therebetween; (b) at least two spatially oriented lower sleeves, with a lower web located on one side of the two sleeves, and extending therebetween; and (c) at least two members, each member connecting telescopically the respective upper sleeve with the respective lower sleeve, said telescoping members enabling the two upper sleeves to be raised or lowered relative to the two lower sleeves.

Abstract: The invention pertains to the synthesis and use as therapeutic agents of a group of substances with a glycerol backbone or aliphatic chain structure linked to a phosphorus atom and a polar head group. Depending on the polar head group, the substance has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy or anti-cardiovascular disease properties. Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein n is 0 to 14 and R.sub.1 is an alkyl group of C.sub.12 -C.sub.20, R.sub.2 is a methyl group, and wherein R.sub.3 is an inositol analog head group, a (CH.sub.2).sub.m N.sup.+ (CH.sub.3).sub.3 group with m=2 to 10, a serine head group, or an ethanolamine head group, or of the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as described above, n=0 or 1, and R.sub.3 is (CH.sub.2).sub.m N.sup.+ (CH.sub.3).sub.3 (m=2-10) are claimed.

Abstract: This invention pertains to the novel use of N-acetyl glucosamine as a cytoprotective agent for persons afflicted with psoriasis by restoring integrity and normal function of skin. A method of treating psoriasis in a human being comprising feeding the human being a therapeutic amount of N-acetyl glucosamine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, on a periodic basis.

Abstract: This invention relates to a novel apparatus which is useful for readily removing the fitting from a hose, particularly a hydraulic hose. An expansion guide for fitting on the end of a hose to enable a fitting at the opposite end of the hose to be loosened comprising a hollow cylinder open at both ends, the opening at one end being of a diameter greater than the outer diameter of the hose, and the opening at the other end being narrower than the outer diameter but greater than the interior diameter of the hose, the interior of the cylinder having an annular ledge at the narrower end, the ledge being adapted to fit at the end of the hose.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for imprinting a predefined pattern in a freshly rolled asphalt surface to simulate the appearance of bricks, cobblestones, interlocking paving stones or the like. A pliable, grid-like template is progressively compressed into the asphalt surface using a drum roller or other surface compactor. The template is then manually lifted clear of the asphalt surface and the asphalt is allowed to harden. The patterned asphalt surface may be treated with a thin coating of colored concrete to enhance the brick and mortar effect.

Abstract: The invention relates to an improved energy exchange structure, comprising generally parallel plates, joined to define a hollow passageway for the generally circular flow of fluid between an inlet and an outlet, said plates undulating in cross-structure to define obliquely disposed crossing opposing valleys, and comprising multiple sets of generally parallel valleys and an involute disposition of said valleys.

Abstract: A pre-fabricated window assembly for flush-appearance glazing comprises a conventional single-pane or dual-pane assembly. In the latter case, the spacer elements are inset from the peripheral edges of the window assembly. One of two types of extrusion is provided along each peripheral edge of the window assembly which provides a bonding surface to which the flush mounted lite is adhered by means of a bonding cement plug. The extrusion on one side of each pair of opposed sides of the window assembly is provided with a quick push-on or hook-on connector which mates with a complementary connector on the mullion or grid frame. The other extrusion on the opposite side of the window unit, for each pair of opposed sides, is similarly configured, except that the connector is a permanent connector for permanent securing of the extrusion to an appropriate mating fastener on the grid frame.

Abstract: A multi-gasket sealing assembly or mount is disclosed for improved mounting of a swimming pool water skimmer in an opening in a pool wall of the type having a metal wall portion and a flexible inner sheet liner. The water skimmer has a housing defining a water inlet chamber for intake of water and an annular chamber end portion which protrudes through the pool wall opening. The housing also has an outwardly projecting peripheral flange spaced from the chamber end portion, the flange being bolted to the metal wall portion. A continuous gasket is located around the chamber end portion. An annular face plate is connected to the chamber end portion to compress the gasket and also to press the pool liner against the metal wall portion to prevent water from getting behind the liner. Another gasket is compressed between the peripheral flange and the metal wall portion to seal against the ingress of sand and other particulate matter into the skimmer from behind the pool wall.

Abstract: A roller skate brake in which the wheel support which rotatably couples the skate's wheels to the boot is slotted, allowing the support to flex when the skater bears down with the heel. Such flexing compresses the support, forcing a brake shoe against the skate's rear wheel. The braking force varies in proportion to the applied force, and is released when the skater stops bearing down. A roller skate starter aids initial propulsion of a roller skate's wheels. The starter incorporates a restraining mechanism which prevents reverse rotation of the skate's toe wheel, while allowing forward rotation thereof.

Abstract: This invention pertains to the novel use of anti-rheumatoid arthritic drugs in the treatment of dementia. A method of treating dementia in human beings which comprises administering to the human being a therapeutic amount of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which has the ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in the human being.

Abstract: This invention pertains to the novel use of N-acetyl glucosamine to minimize or eliminate food intolerance or food allergy symptoms in human beings afflicted with these symptoms by maintaining the integrity and normal function of the gastrointestinal tract in such human beings. A method of alleviating food sensitivity and food allergy in a human being comprising feeding the human being a therapeutic amount of N-acetyl glucosamine on a periodic basis.

Abstract: A table-top jig for a table-mounted power tool comprises an apertured platform, the aperture extending longitudinally along the platform to allow free passage of the power tool saw through platform as the platform is slid over the table-top. The table-top jig further comprises a rip-fence which extends transversely along one end of the apertured platform. The apertured platform is mounted to the table-top by guide rails attached to the platform so that the platform may slidably move over the table-top in a direction transverse to the rip-fence. Securing means, such as a clamp may be used to releasably secure the platform to the table-saw table-ttop.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for evacuating persons of decreased mobility from a building, such as a hospital, in the event of emergency. It provides a device for moving a supine person by lifting or sliding. The device comprises an elongated, planar, rigid base portion on which the person lies and a lower surface provided with a layer of carpeting for sliding on a surface, flaps having adjustable straps for securing the person on the base portion, handles attached to each end of the base portion whereby the device may be pulled from either end, and handles attached to both sides of the base portion whereby the device may be lifted from said both sides.

Abstract: A golf swing practice device has a netting supported from a frame to provide a wedge-shaped pocket. The length of the sides of the wedge are adjustable to permit the open end of the wedge to be rotated by rotating the portion of the frame supporting the open end of the wedge with respect to the portion of the frame supporting the length of the wedge to permit a golfer to stand within the opening while avoiding the frame of the opening with his swing.

Abstract: An improvement in circumferential flow heat exchangers of the type having a stack of heat exchange units each formed from first and second thin plates having grooves and ribs, wherein the grooves and ribs on facing surfaces of the first and second plates of a unit cross one another and cooperate to define a first flow path extending once about the interior of such unit through less than about one circumscription and grooves and ribs on facing surfaces of first and second plates of adjacent units cross one another and cooperate to define a second flow path, characterized in that the first and second plates of each unit are configured to provide the second flow path with a cross-sectional area exceeding the cross-sectional area of the first flow path.
