    Abstract: The invention is directed to multiply-substituted fullerene derivatives of novel configurations, and methods for their preparation and use. The methods involve the combinatorial synthesis of a library of fullerene derivatives and comprises the steps of forming a mixture of fullerene derivatives by reacting the C.sub.n fullerene with two or more reactive precursor compounds, and removing the unreacted compounds to yield the fullerene derivatives having the desired activity. Methods for the identification and screening of a combinatorial library of fullerenes by .sup.3 He-nuclear magnetic resonance and electrospray mass spectrometry to define members with the optimal desired activity are also provided.

    Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in the method of manufacturing alate medical needles. The base part of a needle is inserted into a thermoplastic resin tube and the inserted portion is set in a wing-forming mold. The thermoplastic resin is heated to mold wings integral with the tube. Since the molding of the wings and their connection to the tube can be accomplished simultaneously, this method enables high-speed continuous manufacture which is impossible with conventional methods. Heating of the thermoplastic resin is preferably conducted by high-frequency dielectric heating.

The female element also includes a side wall which is tapered from bottom to top for receiving the head of the peg or mating cylindrical male element which snaps over and past the annular rim.

    Abstract: Effective immunity against coccidiosis can be imparted to poultry if the birds are reared on a regular diet containing added viable sporulated coccidia oocysts at a level sufficient only to induce sub-clinical infection. Preferably the oocyst-containing diet is presented to the birds as soon as they are able to ingest solid food, and contains from 10 to 10,000 oocysts per kg of nutrient feed material. The simultaneous administration of an anti-coccidial drug at a curative level can help to control the immunity-producing infection. The oocyst-containing feedstuff of the invention can be prepared using solid free-flowing pre-mixes or aqueous concentrates, containing appropriate numbers of oocysts together with edible thickening agents. The oocysts can be protected against loss of viability through dehydration by being encapsulated. Growth of the immunized birds is sustained even when they are exposed to a severe oocyst challenge sufficient to induce serious infection in unimmunized birds.

    Abstract: A filtration apparatus for removing undesirable components from a solution to be treated, comprises a module in which a number of hollow fibers are fixed at one end thereof by cast-molding materials, and is opened at the end portion above described and closed at another end portion thereof, in which said solution to be treated can be kept from leaking out of a mechanically sealed portion. Any defect in the sealed portion can be detected from the outside by the provision of an opening which leads the leaked solution to the outside of the apparatus, instead of allowing it to combine with the filtrate. The apparatus is preferably used for the manufacture of purified water which is free from bacteria, pyrogene, and the like. Ultra-purified water of remarkably high purity can be obtained when the apparatus is used as a check filter in a process for manufacturing ultra-purified water.

    Abstract: A dental alloy for use in porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations including palladium, cobalt, gallium, gold, aluminum, copper, zinc and ruthenium or rhenium. The cobalt controls the coefficient of thermal expansion of the alloy to permit the use of the alloy with commercially available porcelains having a variety of thermal coefficients. The zinc serves as a scavenger during formation and casting of the alloy. The aluminum protects the alloy from absorbing gases during torch melting and during the porcelain firing process. The ruthenium or rhenium provides grain refining for the alloy to increase its elongation, tensile strength, and thus toughness. The alloy with ruthenium or rhenium as a grain refining agent must be made in a protective environment to avoid the formation of bubbles in the porcelain during the porcelain firing process.

C. and 1400.degree. C. and a coefficient of thermal expansion of about 0.66 to 0.72 at 500.degree. C.
