Patent number: 4635551Abstract: In a method of printing hosiery, a hose tube is placed over a flat form having a pair of side edges which taper towards each other at a predetermined angle, at least one of these edges being substantially straight. There is then placed over the hose tube on the form a print carrier which is initially in the form of a frustoconical tube but which is flattened along two opposed fold lines. These fold lines also taper towards each other at the said predetermined angle so that the print carrier fits snugly over the flat form. The hose tube is contacted closely between the fold lines and the side edges of the form during a subsequent hot pressing operation, so that a design carried by the print carrier is properly transferred to the hose tube and there is no resultant discontinuity in design in the finished hosiery in those areas.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1985Date of Patent: January 13, 1987Assignee: Couture Marketing LimitedInventor: John Croxall

Patent number: 4632424Abstract: An apparatus for absorbing energy between movable members. The apparatus includes first and second telescopingly engagable members. The second member is formed to be increasingly and forceably engaged with the first member as an external force is exerted on the second member urging it into the second member. In a preferred embodiment, a helical twist is formed in the second member to cause the forced engagement of the first and second members. The helical twist is variable over the longitudinal length of the second member from a first end and increases gradually from the first end to an intermediate portion an then increasingly from the intermediate portion outward towards the second end of the second member. This provides a controlled forced rate build up as the second member is urged into the first member to control energy absorption of the force urging the second member into the first member.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1984Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Inventor: George R. Patent number: 4630597Abstract: An improved dynamic aortic patch is constructed with an elongate semi-rigid shell member having a concave inner surface and a flexible membrane integrally bonded to the outer surface of the shell to define an inflatable and deflatable chamber between the concave inner surface and the membrane. The pumping capacity of the patch is determined by the concavity of the inner surface of the shell member, thus enabling the construction of a patch which may be implanted in the thoracic cavity (small concavity) or in the abdomen (large concavity). A fabric layer bonded to the membrane over the area overlying the outer surface of the shell has a peripheral suture flange projecting freely clear of the membrane, and a temporary shield adapted to overlie the fabric layer may be employed to assure that sutures placed to attach the patch within an opening in the aorta are not inadvertently passed through the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1984Date of Patent: December 23, 1986Inventors: Adrian Kantrowitz, Paul S. Patent number: 4627275Abstract: An engine deficiency indicator includes a detector for detecting a pre-determined amount of angular rotation of an engine. The detector generates a first signal upon the start of one period of rotation of the engine which enables a counter for counting clock pulses. A second signal from the sensor, indicative of the completion of the pre-determined amount of angular rotation of the engine, disables the counter. A processing unit reads and stores the counter data in a memory. The counter data corresponds to the time required for the engine to rotate through a pre-determined amount of angular rotation. At the completion of a pre-determined number of engine rotational cycles, the processing unit analyzes the stored time sequence signals using a discrete Fourier transform analysis and/or an autocorrelation analysis to generate a manifestation of deficient engine operation. A display connected to the processing unit provides a visual or audible indication of efficient or deficient engine operation.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1984Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: Wayne State UniversityInventors: Naeim A.
