Abstract: The invention concerns a device for the separation of substances, in particular of solid substances, liquid phases of varied density and/or of gases, from a liquid, by rotation with several filtering elements, which permit the filtered liquid to pass through and which are rotatably supported around a rotational axis inside of a housing, said housing exhibiting an inlet opening for the liquid, at least one discharge opening for the heavy substances separated by rotation and at least one discharge opening for the filtered liquid. In accordance with the invention, a throughflow is provided, in the region or in the proximity of the rotational axis of the filtering elements, for substances exhibiting a density lower than that of the liquid.

Abstract: An electrolytic water purification system and method use provides a water filtration device with a plurality of electrolytic cells having anodes and cathodes specifically selected to remove contaminants from water. The device is capable of efficiently removing nearly all contaminants from water and is also capable of purifying the water by destroying micro-organisms which are in the water. Many minerals are removed from the purified water, and it is not necessary to add chemicals to the water during or after the purification process.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for preventing free flow through an infusion set utilizes an occluder disposed within the infusion set to selectively prevent flow therethrough. The occluder may be responsive to a pressure differential within the infusion set or may respond to compression of the infusion set. When a pair of occluders are used in sequence, an in-line pump may be formed.

Abstract: An improved joint utilizes a facing strip which is configured to extend away from a pair of plates held by the facing strip as one moves toward the middle of the facing strip. When the steel plates are disposed at an angle to one another, the facing strip is preferably straight. When the steel plates are parallel, the facing strip is preferably bent to extend toward the plates as one moves out from the middle of the facing strip and toward the lateral edges.

Abstract: A medicament container configured to improve entrainment of the medicament in the air and to improve deposition of the medicament in the lungs includes an upper layer and a bottom layer with medicament disposed therebetween. The upper layer is punctured to provide first and second openings to allow airflow to enter and exit through the upper layer of the medicament container. In a preferred embodiment, the medicament container has a projection which forms an elbow-shaped medicament containment/flow channel between the upper layer and the lower layer. The medicament container is preferably used in a housing which selectively controls airflow through the medicament container and the housing to improve deep lung deposition of the medicament.
Abstract: A 3-dimensional assembly is constructed from three 2-dimensional pieces. Each piece is formed with two slots such that the pieces are operatively identical and are interchangeable, and such that the pieces may be formed into a structure without bending of the pieces, and such that the pieces do not all share a common line of intersection. The resulting 3-dimensional structure may be used as a toy, puzzle, ornament, engineering structure, etc.
Abstract: A shadow box scrapbook page adapted to hold and secure three-dimensional objects for storage and display. The page includes a binder portion having openings to receive standard rings or posts common to binders, and a frame device, having a front, back and side, top and bottom sections, defining a cavity. The front is generally transparent for the viewing of the stored objects.
Abstract: A bullet trap is disclosed which is formed without intervening sidewalls to enable cross-shooting and the like with reduced risk or ricochet or damage to the bullet trap. Furthermore, the bullet trap can be configured in a variety of ways to eliminate the need for facing plates while providing a removable attachment mechanism, to enable repair on the trap, to reduce bullet adhesion to the trap and to provide improved containment of lead and improved access to the trap.

Abstract: An improved drop/turn target is easier to construct and operate than existing drop/turn targets. The drop/turn target may be adjusted for wear, and may easily be configured to operate in a variety of different modes. The drop/turn target may also be raised or lowered during operation and may be automatically reset for subsequent use.

Abstract: A projectile retrieval system includes one or more valves disposed to selectively release projectiles from a bullet stop and containment system. The valves are in pneumatic communication with a tube which utilized a negative air pressure generated by a vacuum to move the projectiles from the valves to a central container. The projectile retrieval system may also include a vacuum extension which enables the same system to retrieve bullets and casings, fragments and other debris on the range.
Abstract: The present invention relates to biochips, in particular nucleotide chips, which contain hyphen-specific proteins coding nucleotides, protein chips which contain hyphen-specific proteins, and antibody chips which contain antibodies directed against these hyphen-specific proteins, diagnostic compositions which contain these nucleotide, protein, or antibody chips, processes for the location and identification of substances which are therapeutically effective against diseases caused by types of Candida and processes for the diagnosis of a disease caused by Candida.

Abstract: A bullet target configured to improve the skills of a shooter includes, in one embodiment, a head plate which is attached to an arm by a resilient or semi-resilient attachment member to allow the head plate to visually deflect when hit by a bullet and to substantially return to its original position. In another embodiment, the improved target utilizes an attachment mechanism which allows the head to rotate relative to the arm within a stop to minimize transfer of vibrations between the head plate and the arm. In a third embodiment, a plurality of head plates are used in alignment and selectively exposed to the shooter to improve decision making ability.
Abstract: The refrigerating unit can be operated by means of a thermal solar system as energy source. Therein it is provided that the refrigerating unit is formed as a diffusion-absorption refrigerating unit. The refrigerating unit has an expeller, a triple heat exchanger, a condenser, an evaporator, a gas heat exchanger, an absorber, and a fuel reservoir which are actively connected to form a closed fuel circuit with one another.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved process for producing hydroxynitrile lyases. A process is provided whereby hydroxynitrile lyases may be produced by cultivation in bacteria or suitable host cells. Cells containing a gene encoding for a hydroxynitrile lyase may be precultivated, induced with a low concentration of IPTG, cultured, and lysed. The process allows for the production of relatively large quantities of hydroxynitrile lyases in a dissolved, native, and active form, and without the presence of substantial amounts of inclusion bodies, and thus allowing for the production of the lyases without requiring expensive and time consuming renaturation steps.
