    Abstract: A method and apparatus for configuring multiple first programmable logic devices from a single memory includes a microprocessor, and a second programmable logic device containing the interface logic for the first programmable device and the microprocessor. The present invention allows multiple FPGAs to be programmed from a single memory structure under the control of the microprocessor thereby using fewer components than systems dedicating a separate memory to each FPGA. A communications port allows new configurations to be downloaded to the microprocessor memory. In addition, the present invention can be used in combination with standard systems with each FPGA having its own memory, with the microprocessor being able to select between the central microprocessor memory and the local memory for programming each FPGA.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus is presented for performing a sequence-level CRC calculation on fiber channel communications within a switching platform domain. Specifically, the disclosed invention utilizes a CRC generator to monitor data communication between an external interface and a fiber channel controller. The CRC generator searches the data communication for frames that contain the type of data for which a sequence-level CRC is desired, such as for a sequence containing SCSI data. When found, the CRC generator performs an 8B/10B decode, strips off any fill bytes, and performs a CRC calculation on the data payload. If the found frame is the first frame in the sequence, the CRC is done starting with a reset value. If the frame is not the first, an intermediate value containing the previous CRC calculation results for this sequence is retrieved and used to perform the CRC calculations. Upon completion of the calculation for the frame, a determination is made whether the sequence is complete.

    Abstract: The bubble trap is used in extracorporeal blood flow circuits of the type used for open heart surgery. The trap is placed in the external blood flow and it removes small micro bubbles from the blood prior to delivery to the body. The device accelerates the blood flow radially and the small bubbles migrate toward the center of the accelerated flow. These bubbles are concentrated at this location and the blood that contains the micro bubbles is extracted and recirculated before the degassed blood flow is returned to the body.
