  • Patent number: 4573539
Abstract: A coring tool, which includes a flexible wire mesh in which the core is disposed, includes a mechanism for maintaining tension on the wire mesh sleeve which then seizes the core disposed within the sleeve, and which serves to retain the core and maintain it under tension. The sleeve is maintained under tension by tensile force transmitted to the sleeve through a stripper tube. The stripper tube is axially disposed through a piston ratchet assembly connected to a piston slidable within the drill string. The piston is resiliently urged upward within the drill string by a return spring but is longitudinally forced downward within the drill string and advanced downwardly with respect to the stripper tube by an increase in pressure within the drill string thereby compressing the return spring.

  • Patent number: 4573873
Abstract: A compact, rugged, streamline, stiff, pitch control system is devised in a helicopter by concentrically nesting a cyclic pitch control tube and collective pitch control tube within the drive shaft and stationary mast of a helicopter rotor system. The collective pitch control tube terminates in an upper inclined flange which engages a stationary swashplate by means of a bearing member disposed in an inclined bearing raceway in the stationary swashplate. The stationary swashplate in turn is rotatably coupled through a universal joint to the cyclic pitch control tube. Relative rotation of the cyclic pitch control tube with respect to the collective pitch control tube adjusts the stationary swashplate to a selected inclination with respect to the longitudinal axis of the control tubes and of the helicopter mast. A rotating swashplate is rotatably coupled to the stationary swashplate and transmits the angular orientation of the stationary swashplate to the pitch case of each rotor blade as appropriate.

  • Patent number: 4571896
Abstract: A gutter assembly is provided which comprises an elongated, preferably transversely flexible sheet which when in an installed position extends along a building roof adjacent an edge of it, while extending below the roof edge. A pipe is provided which has a lengthwise extending slot which accommodates a side edge of the sheet through it adjacent an edge of the slot, while leaving room for entry of only water through the slot and into the pipe. A plurality of clips are dimensioned to be extendable outward from a surface of an edge strip of the sheet so that when the edge strip extends through the slot in the pipe, the clips can abut the inner surface of the pipe so as to retain an inside surface of the sheet against an edge of the slot. Preferably, the foregoing components are also dimensioned such that the sheet vertically supports the pipe. Such a gutter assembly inhibits entry of foreign matter into the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4570952
Abstract: A chuck provided with a collapsible collet for holding one of a number of twist drills of different diameters is equipped with a holder for the collet, the holder being one for mounting in an appropriate power tool such as a drill press or lathe. There is a stationary sleeve within which rotate the holder, collet and drill. For lubricating and cooling the cutting operation where the drill engages the work, use is made of a pipe fitting in a boss on the stationary sleeve. A fluid line to the pipe fitting continuously supplies a cooling lubricant which flows from there through a succession of passageways in the sleeve and the holder so that the lubricant is ultimately discharged into axially extending slits of the collapsible collet. Emerging from the slits the lubricant flows over the surface of the drill until it reaches the cutting edge, the flow being in sufficient volume to wash away chips.

  • Patent number: 4569529
Abstract: A game. There is a game board having openings on its surface and headings, each indicating an occurrence in a competitive event. Indicia are marked on the board at each side of the openings and slides are received on the board. Each slide extends across an opening between two indicia. A blank portion on each slide aligns with an opening at a first position of the slide. Information on each slide relates to each number on each side of the opening when the slide is moved to a second position. A plurality of cards are included, each with one of the indicia that is also marked at the side of the openings. Thus, on watching a competitive event, as an occurrence takes place the slide is withdrawn at that occurrence space to indicate that the holder of a card with one indicia on it loses and the holder of the card with the aligned indicia wins.

  • Patent number: 4566545
Abstract: An improved coring device that incorporates a nonrotatable inner barrel disposed within the outer driving structure of the drill string which is coupled to the coring bit. A woven metal mesh sleeve is circumferentially mounted outside the inner barrel and tucked around its lower end. The lower end of the mesh sleeve in the inner barrel is in turn connected to a stripper tube which is pulled upwardly during the coring operation. As the core is cut by the coring bit and enters the inner barrel, the woven metal mesh sleeve is disposed about the core and constricts about the core when pulled upwardly by the stripper tube. The opposing end of the woven metal mesh sleeve is under a weight which serves to compress the metal sleeve when outside the inner barrel, thereby increasing its diameter.

  • Patent number: 4563936
Abstract: An improvement is made in an externally driven gun having an ammunition feeder capable of providing at least two types of ammunition to the gun by incorporating a gear transmission into the driving mechanism coupled to the ammunition feeder to appropriately control an in-feed sprocket within the ammunition feeder so that the ammunition type can be changed prior to commitment of the previously selected type of ammunition to the firing mechanism of the gun. The gear transmission which is coupled to the in-feed sprocket provides acceleration to the sprocket at the last possible moment prior to handing-off the round to the firing mechanism. In one embodiment the gear transmission includes a cam follower rotatably coupled about an offset axis to the input shaft and coupled to the output shaft through a radial slot. The cam follower is rotated by means of a stationary cam race as the follower itself is rotated as a whole by the input shaft.

  • Patent number: 4564336
Abstract: A low drag, bearingless coupling is provided between a blade and hub of a helicopter rotor system by coupling the hub and blade together by means of a planar, elastic flexure or element which extends between the blade and the hub in a generally azimuthal direction in the rotor plane. The thickness of the flexure is such so that it is smaller than the adjacent blade or hub thicknesses so that the aerodynamic cross section presented by the flexure to air flow is negligible. The flexure is particularly characterized by having a bend in the coupling between the hub and blade. In the illustrated embodiment the flexure is integral and "W"-shaped with a "U"-shaped segment of the "W"-shaped flexure extending between each side of the adjacent blade and hub arms. The flexure may be made of rod having a circular cross section or of flat plate formed in a shape to have the desired elastic and resilient characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4558749
Abstract: An improved anti-jamming mechanism for use in a coring tool is devised by providing a rotary jar within the inner barrel of the coring tool. The inner barrel is connected to a bearing assembly into which a bearing shaft is axially and concentrically disposed. The bearing assembly is rotatably journaled to the bearing shaft. The bearing shaft is rotatably and longitudinally fixed with respect to the outer barrel of the coring tool. The bearing shaft and bearing assembly are longitudinally displaceable with respect to each other by Bellville washers. The bearing assembly also includes a rotary anvil which is ultimately brought into contact with a rotary hammer which in turn is fixed with respect to the outer barrel. An impulsive torsional and longitudinal force is imparted by the rotary hammer to the rotary anvil through the resilient coupling between the bearing shaft and bearing assembly disposed within the inner barrel.

  • Patent number: 4553613
Abstract: An automatically operable hydraulic lift inner barrel is devised to lift the inner tube of the core barrel on a drill string. An inner mandrel is axially disposed within the outer tube of the coring tool. An outer piston which is selectively locked to the inner mandrel is telescopically and concentrically disposed about the inner mandrel. Fluid is selectively diverted from the outer tube into the inner mandrel and inside the outer piston. An inner locking piston within the inner mandrel responds to the hydraulic pressure to unlock the outer piston from the inner mandrel. The outer piston is then longitudinally displaced by the hydraulic pressure thereby lifting the inner tube which is connected to it. After the outer piston has moved a predetermined distance, the hydraulic pressure supplied to the inner mandrel and inside the outer piston reaches a second predetermined magnitude. Burst disks are then blown thereby relieving the hydraulic pressure within the outer piston inner mandrel.
