Abstract: A basket loader apparatus for a machine to cast commoning straps onto the positive and negative plate lugs of plate stacks used to form a multi-celled lead acid storage battery. As configured the apparatus is designed to hold a basket which contains said stacks and hold it during the casting operations. Prior to the start of said operation, the apparatus is further adapted to properly align the lugs for casting and further to enter the plates and the plastic separation which lie between them within the basket. The apparatus further includes vertical adjustment means so that plates of different size may be accommodated and vacuum cleaning means to remove fragments of lead sulfate paste and other foreign materials which might interfere with proper alignment of the plates within the basket.
Abstract: A holding apparatus for use in conjunction with a plastic welding machine adapted to lift an article placed therein toward a head assembly having the holding apparatus associated therewith to retain the article in place, the holding apparatus comprising a mounting plate having a face adapted to receive the article, a port extending through the face, a vacuum actuated piston operatively associated with the port, and opposing side plates connected to selected edges of the mounting plate and operatively associated with the piston, which side plates include strips or bands which extend transversely from the side plates toward the mounting plate, and which are adapted to engage selected portions of the article. In use, the article is placed over the mounting plate, covering the port and sealing the vacuum system. The vacuum operated piston is activated, retracting the side plates and engaging selected portions of the article by the strip or band.
Abstract: A white cover sheet material capable of reflecting ultraviolet rays, comprises at least one outer surface layer thereof which comprises (A) a substantially colorless matrix material comprising a thermoplastic polymer material and (B) a white ultraviolet ray-reflecting agent comprising ZrO.sub.2, the cover sheet material being difficult to be distinguished from snow surface not only by naked eye, but also, by an ultraviolet ray inspecting device.
Abstract: An educational and recreational game board apparatus is presented to facilitate the teaching of arithmetic operations by combining elements of chance with the performance of these arithmetic operations. The apparatus includes a game board with numbered spaces on which are placed tokens, the placement determined by both chance and the performance of arithmetic operations as indicated by a chance generating device. The operations are performed on numbers presented by some selection device such as a deck of numbered cards.
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel method for producing a homogenous weld exhibiting a superior grain structure, higher strength, and superior durability, using an extrusion-fusion type battery intercell welder having a novel electrode construction which provides improved current carrying characteristics.
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel method of extrusion-fusion welding of lead parts through an aperture in a battery case which uniformly controls the area of contact between members to be welded at the completion of the extrusion process in order to produce consistent, high-quality welds exhibiting higher strength and superior durability.
Abstract: A punching apparatus for punching a strip of lead alloy material into a battery grid is provided with a support for supporting the material to be punched thereon and biased punch members above the support for punching through the material. Rotating cams engage the punch members and force the punch members downward through the material on the support. Rollers provided adjacent the support and the material to be punched move the material across the support means synchronously with the motion of the rotating cams engaging the punches.
Abstract: An apparatus for modifying the between the ribs space in a thermal plastic battery container is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a heated non-circular wiping member which when rotated about a fixed centerline defines a first circumference having a diameter substantially equal in length to the minimum between the ribs space and a second concentric circumference having a diameter greater in length than the first diameter.
Abstract: A novel calcium-strontium-tin-lead grid alloy is disclosed which exhibits a finer grain structure, higher hardness, improved castability and superior corrosion resistance.
Abstract: Battery plates are assembled into stacks forming positive and negative rows of lugs and the stacks are placed within the cells in a battery case. Molding channels are automatically formed around the positive and negative rows of lugs and molten lead alloy is automatically introduced into the molding channels to cast the straps and intercell connections simultaneously within the battery case.
Abstract: A method for pneumatically handling material having a slurry-like consistency such as chicken hatchery waste material includes a hopper for accepting the waste material, a receiver for accumulating the waste material and duct work which is connected between the hopper and the receiver. The system also includes a blower for creating reduced pressure in the receiver with respect to the hopper whereby the waste material is drawn from the hopper to the receiver. The system also includes a valving arrangement whereby a volumn of reduced pressure is maintained within the receiver above the accumulated waste material, the pressure being reduced with respect to the outside ambient, thereby causing air from the outside ambient to enter into a discharge aperture in the bottom of the receiver, through the accumulated waste material to the volumn of reduced pressure, thereby agitating, loosening and effecting the rapid discharge of the accumulated waste material through the discharge aperture.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for displaying ECG signals in a format which permits simple and rapid detection of abnormalities in the heart beat. This method and apparatus is particularly suitable for reviewing, at an accelerated rate, heart beat information recorded in real time by portable, patient operated recording equipment over an extended period of time. The system not only detects, identifies, flags and tabulates occurrences of abnormalities, it permits display of the actual waveform for inspection and analysis by a reviewing technician or physician.

Abstract: This invention relates to method for manufacturing composite containers. The containers of the preferred embodiment are especially adapted for dispensing food stuffs.
Abstract: A composite javelin having superior vibration damping characteristics is provided having a hollow or low density body of generally circular cross-section which tapers from small diameter front and rear tip ends to a large diameter more or less in the center, said tapered diameters and general tip and grip features being in conformance with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee. The javelin body can be constructed in either a one or two piece manner and constitutes a plurality of Kevlar.RTM. or fiber glass prepreg bias wound plys forming an underlayer and a plurality of bias wound graphite/epoxy prepreg plys forming an overlayer. In the preferred two piece construction, the distribution of weight and composite center of gravity can be adjusted within the body to allow tuning the javelin to an individual athlete's throwing characteristics.
Abstract: A basket apparatus for clamping a plurality of plate stacks sufficient to form one multi-celled, lead acid storage battery during the casting of the lug commoning straps in each stack is provided. As configured it comprises a frame defining a plurality of internal cavities each configured to hold one of said stacks and a set of individually biased movable clamping plates, one in each of said cavities, each adapted to hold the stack firmly in position during the casting operation. The individual biasing permits firm gripping regardless of any variability in plate or stack thickness.
