  • Patent number: 6199473
Abstract: A grilling appliance includes a housing defining an internal grilling compartment for receiving food articles to be grilled; an impaling member mounted within the grilling compartment for impaling a food article to be grilled; a circular array of electrical heaters surrounding and spaced from the impaling member for heating a food article when impaled thereon; and an electrical system for sequentially energizing the electrical heaters to produce a rotating heating front which rotates around a food article when impaled on the impaling member. Each electrical heater is shaped in the form of a loop extending for a part of the circumference of the grilling compartment and has a pair of mounting legs at one end joined by a U-section at the opposite end.

  • Patent number: 5741405
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sputter-depositing a layer of a material on a substrate, in which the layer is applied to the substrate by sequentially effecting a plurality of partial sputter-deposits thereon during a plurality of operational periods each including a sputter-deposit time interval followed by a non-deposit time interval of at least equal duration to the sputter-deposit time interval.

  • Patent number: 5671560
Abstract: A firearm including a frame having a grip for manually grasping the firearm, a control member movable to enable firing the firearm, a locking device including a latch element movable by an inserted key either to a locking position or to a releasing position, and a locking member movably carried by the frame. A spring urges the locking member into contact with the control member such that the locking member moves with the control member to enable firing the firearm. The locking member is located with respect to the latch element of the locking device so as to be engaged thereby when the latch element is in its locking position, to block the movement of the locking member, and thereby to prevent the firing of the firearm when the latch element is in its locking position. Two embodiments are described: a semi-automatic pistol, wherein the control member is a pivotal safety lever; and a revolver, wherein the control member is a rebound slide.

  • Patent number: 5634467
Abstract: A method of assessing the cardiovascular performance of a subject, by: applying periodically, in synchronism with every n.sup.th heart cardiac cycle wherein "n" is at least two, external pressure pulsations on a peripheral organ of the subject sufficient to alter ventricular loading; acquiring data representative of the ventricular pressure, and data representative of the ventricular volume, of the subject's heart over a plurality of heart cardiac cycles; and utilizing such data for assessing the cardiovascular performance of the subject. Ventricular loading may be altered by impeding ventricular ejection (changing afterload), and/or by altering venous return to the heart (changing preload).
