  • Patent number: 6625481
Abstract: An electrode assembly adapted to be attached to the skin over selected facial muscle groups picks up signals to be analyzed by an anesthesia adequacy monitor that measures the level of awareness of a living animal, typically a human being. The electrode assembly also includes a stimulator that stimulates a facial nerve to determine the level of paralysis, or neuro muscular block, of the facial muscles. Also disclosed is a method of manufacturing the electrode assembly by printing a pattern of electrically conductive material through a silk-screen or an ink type process onto a flexible layer, and then coating the result with a non-conducting adhesive except at points corresponding to sensing points for the desired muscle groups. Finally, a method for using such sensing and stimulating devices is shown in determining and maintaining an appropriate level of patient awareness, muscle paralysis, and analgesia under anesthesia.

  • Patent number: 6216574
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for precisely, easily and automatically setting and resetting stops on a cutting table. In particular, a hand manipulable pointer slideable along a scale may be moved a desired and equal distance to that desired of the stops, and the stops will automatically move that same distance and direction. The system is accomplished by operatively coupling the stops and the pointer system to a linear actuator. Also disclosed is an electromechanical braking system of superior quality for this apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6077447
Abstract: A device for producing fibrinogen includes a platen having a surface configured for heat exchange with a container, which is adhered to the platen by device of a vacuum and heat exchange allowing both cooling and heating to occur along the boundary between the container and the platen. The platen is operatively coupled to a device of rocking the platen about a horizontal axis and the container allows scavenging of a cryoprecipitate fibrinogen from the blood product for subsequent utilization.

  • Patent number: 5947822
Abstract: A gaming device and method in which a player, after having enabled the machine with a wager, is exposed to a conventional blackjack or twenty-one display on a video monitor. The player receives two cards face up and the dealer receives one card face up and one card face down. The player then has the option of continuing to play the blackjack hand to its conclusion. Should the blackjack game be continued unimpeded, an award is based on conventional blackjack rules. This includes adding cards to approach or equal the numeric value twenty-one. Should the player instead embark upon draw poker, the dealer's cards (initially one card face up and one card face down) are removed from view on the video monitor. In this alternative, the player will keep the two face up cards that have already been dealt the player and receive three additional face up cards and then embark upon a game of draw poker.
