Patent number: 5053551Abstract: Continuous process for hydroformylation of olefins containing, typically, from 6 to 20 carbon atoms to produce the corresponding aldehydes. The rate of formation of high boiling aldehyde condensation products is minimized by use of a high boiling inert solvent whose boiling point, at the pressure prevailing in the product recovery zone, lies intermediate between that of the highest boiling aldehyde product produced in the hydroformylation reaction and that of the ligand, as well as by maintaining the concentration of product aldehyde at or below a predetermined minor amount. In this way the length of a production run can be significantly extended before it becomes necessary to shut down the plant due to accumulation of high boiling aldehyde condensation products.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1988Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: Davy McKee (London) LimitedInventors: George E. Harrison, Alan J. Dennis

Patent number: 5035127Abstract: A lock arrangement for containers comprising a latch with a crossbar and a counterpart, the crossbar and the counterpart being equipped with lock members provided with holes. The lock members are locked together by means of a padlock. When the lock arrangement is shut, the lock members are inside a housing mounted on the crossbar or the counterpart. The housing is shaped and arranged in such a way that it tightly encloses the padlock and the lock members when the padlock provided with a straight shackle is in its locked position. The housing and the lock members are furthermore provided such that the padlock is insertable in the housing via an opening therein by a rectilinear movement in at least two directions perpendicular to each other. The crossbar and the counterpart are fastened to the container by means of safety fastening means, such as bolts, the heads of which being on the same level as the crossbar and/or the counterpart. This results in a simple and burglar-proof lock arrangement for containers.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1989Date of Patent: July 30, 1991Assignee: Servial CC ApSInventor: Allan R. Larsen

Patent number: 5010745Abstract: A high security post lock according to the invention includes a hardened shell having a head member at one end thereof and an eccentric locking cam rotatably mounted at the other end. The lock is adapted to be inserted through an opening passing through a door frame and a door to secure the door. In a first or open position, the circumference of the cam is coextensive with the circumference of the shell, so that the lock can be inserted into and withdrawn from the door. In a second or locked position, the locking cam projects outwardly from the shell to prevent withdrawal of the lock and thus secure the door. Movement of the cam is limited by a pin and groove arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1989Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Medeco Security Locks, Inc.Inventors: Charles E. Hall, Stevie C. Patent number: 5012097Abstract: Described is herein a radiation measuring apparatus in which a detected pulse signal having a wave height value proportional to energy of radiation is transmitted through an optical fiber and a detected pulse signal received from the optical fiber is supplied to an external apparatus. Even if the transmission loss of the optical fiber is subjected to change with passage of time, a monitor pulse signal having a polarity reverse to that of a detected pulse signal is overlapped on the detected pulse signal lest the wave height of the detected pulse signal be not varied on the transmitting side, and a wave height value of a monitor pulse signal passed through the optical fiber is detected to compensate the wave height of the received detected pulse signal using the detected value.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1989Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Minoru Oda

Patent number: 4995634Abstract: An equalizing suspension arrangement for tandem steering axles. An extended shackle is provided for supporting the forward end of the rear spring (that is the spring supporting the rear steering axle), and this extended shackle is connected at one end to the rear end of a rocker beam which connects the front spring and rear spring. A radius arm pivoted on the frame of the truck is connected to the opposite end of the extended shackle. As a result of this construction the movement of the rocker beam and of the radius arm are coordinated so that the point of connection of the front end of the rear spring to the extended shackle moves along a substantially vertical path, and there is substantially no horizontal movement of the front support of the rear spring. Hence, there is substantially no horizontal movement of the rear steering axle and the toe-in and toe-out condition of the rear steering axle remains substantially the same as that of the front steering tandem axles.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1989Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: Mack Trucks, Inc.Inventor: Maxwell E. Evans

Patent number: 4996035Abstract: A process for the production of nitrosyl fluoride from nitrite and hydrogen fluoride. Nitrite solids and hydrogen fluoride are separately introduced and blended into nitrosyl fluoride so as to form a reaction mixture within which the nitrite and the hydrogen fluoride react to produce additional nitrosyl fluoride. The hydrogen fluoride is introduced into the reaction mixture spaced away from where the nitrite is introduced into the reaction mixture so that the hydrogen fluoride and the nitrite separately mix into the nitrosyl fluoride and are diluted therein before mixing with each other, thereby avoiding a violent reaction between the hydrogen fluoride and the nitrite.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1990Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: Mallinckrodt, Inc.Inventors: Nickolas J. Patent number: 4992564Abstract: Disclosed is a practical and efficient process for preparing 6-substituted 4-chromanones from phenolic acrylate ester compounds derivable from para-substituted phenolic or thiophenolic compounds and beta-unsubstituted acrylic acid compounds which are esterifiable therewith. The process includes effecting rearrangement of a phenolic or thiophenolic acrylate ester in the presence of a rearrangement effective amount of hydrogen fluoride to the corresponding hydroxy--or mercapto (vinyl ketone) wherein the carbonyl carbon atom of the vinyl carboxy group is directly attached to the benzene ring ortho to the hydroxy or mercapto group. Thereafter, the vinyl ketone is cyclized to the corresponding 6-substituted 4-chromanone in the presence of a cyclization-effective amount of hydrogen fluoride. The 6-substituted 4-chromanones prepared by the process are useful as intermediates for preparing pharmaceutical agents.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1989Date of Patent: February 12, 1991Assignee: Mallinckrodt, Inc.Inventors: Jerry R. Patton, Narayanasamy Gurusamy

Patent number: 4989738Abstract: A blow molded plastic bottle has a reinforced plastic bottom with a concave central portion and a bottom rim portion. A solid depending rib, formed at the pinch off seam, extends across the concave portion, and depending hollow ribs, formed in the concave portion at ninety degress to the solid rib, extend radially to the bottom rim portion. The hollow rims effectively reduce the depth of the bottom rim intermediate the seam junctions to reduce bulging of the concave base thereby preventing instability.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1989Date of Patent: February 5, 1991Assignees: General Electric Company, Liqui-Box CorporationInventors: Robert S.
