Abstract: The subject invention provides for an educational device for teaching concepts of geography and biology (including ecology). The subject invention comprises a plant growth chamber in which any of a variety of plants may be grown. Covering the plant growth chamber is a plant growth limitation shield having at least one opening. The top surface of the plant growth limitation shield contains an illustration in which the aperture (or apertures) forms a part of the illustration. The subject device also comprises means for holding the plant growth limitation shield in place over the plant growth chamber such that plants growing from the plant growth chamber may grow through the aperture (or apertures) of the plant growth limitation shield and that the plant growth limitation shield is held in fixed position relative to the plant growth chamber.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dispensing a substance such as a hydrophylic polymer into a soil to minimize the need for repeated irrigation, plant feeding or the like. A trailer supports a mixing tank within which the polymer and a liquid such as water are continuously agitated. The mixture, in a liquid form, is sent through a pump to an outlet having a plurality of apertures communicating with the tank via a manifold. A valve operatively conditions the throughput of the water and polymer so that a series of high pressure pulses exit the outlet and cause slugs of liquid to contact the ground at a sufficient velocity that the slugs penetrate the soil and deform under the surface of the soil. The rapid opening and closing of the valve when used with the outlet's apertures can provide a distribution pattern in the soil which is substantially uniform and minimizes the likelihood of disproportionate polymer infusion in the ground which would otherwise cause non-uniformly swelling.

Abstract: A method for treating hair is provided which includes the application of three compositions of matter with drying steps therebetween. A first and second composition are not less than 50% acetone, are not water soluble and penetrate deeply into the hair to reconstruct damaged hair. A third composition acts as an emollient and high-protein conditioner to revitalize the hair after its reconstruction with the first and second compositions.
Abstract: A stopper plug and method for making the same. A reinforcement spider is integrally laminated within a multi-layered plug formed from several plies of elastomeric and unidirectional reinforcement. The spider cooperates with end plates such that expansion of the plug causes both longitudinal contraction of the plug and radial expansion while concomitantly increasing the force by which the end plates are attached to the plug preventing delamination at that juncture. Two forms of plug are shown. One has capped endwalls provided with nipple outlets and one is provided with a throughflow central passageway.
Abstract: A pin is provided for repairing cracks in materials such as iron casting materials. The pin includes threads with both upper surfaces and lower surfaces which angle upwards toward a head of the pin. A tapping bit is utilized in a hole of similar diameter to the pin, positioned with half of the hole on each side of a crack, the bit creating threads in the hole which are substantially complemental to the threads of the pin. The pin includes a shoulder which has a greater diameter than a diameter of the hole. A neck is located between the head of the pin and the shoulder of the pin having a lesser diameter than any other portion of the pin. When the pin is threaded into the hole, the shoulder abuts against a surface of the cracked material causing the pin to cease translation into the material. Upon further rotation of the pin, the upwardly angled threads draw opposite sides of the crack towards each other.
Abstract: A plant shelter (10) is provided which surrounds a plant (P) and provides a microclimate (M) surrounding the plant (P) for enhanced growth of the plant (P). The plant shelter (10) is formed from a film (20) rolled into a cylindrical wall (25). The film (20) has selective absorption characteristics resulting in the film (20) shielding the plant (P) from ultra-violet radiation (U) and visible radiation which is not of a wavelength corresponding to blue light (B). The shelter (10) can be closed partially on a top edge (22) thereof to further isolate the microclimate (M) from conditions of the climate (C) outside the shelter (10).
Abstract: An integrally formed disposable dental hand piece drive mechanism and prophylaxis fitting which renders less likely cross-contamination of patients by providing an economic, sterile prophy angle which can be discarded after only one use. An output shaft is supported for rotation within a housing. The shaft has an output end which is configured to couple with any of a variety of working tools such as a dentifrice holding cup, a brush, or other dental instrumentality. The output shaft is stimulated into rotation by means of an air stream which is directed on a surface of the output shaft which is within the housing which supports the output shaft. Thus, air, directed to the output shaft via an inlet passage, impinges against the shaft causing rotation. Thereafter the air exits through an outlet passage. An end of the housing remote from the output shaft removably attaches to both a source of air and a duct to receive exiting air.
Abstract: A hollow, molded, disposable, plastic syringe is provided with an air trap chamber in fluid communication with a collapsible container portion. An umbilical passage connects the container to the chamber. With the air trap chamber extending upwardly from the container portion, air is trapped in the chamber. The chamber is then removed by sealing the umbilical passage shut and severing the passage between the seal and the chamber. The syringe is then useable without any air contained in the container. The container is shaped to facilitate ejection of an accurate dose without injecting too little or too much of the contained liquid.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring and locating the presence of fluids beyond a containment vessel. A multiplicity of plates having conductive affinity are strategically oriented adjacent the area of liquid storage and periodic surveillance relying on conductivity of the substrate within which the electrodes have been placed are made such that disturbances in the conductivity correlates with migration of fluid being contained. The method and apparatus may be utilized to detect migration of salinated fluids into a region where previously less salination existed.
Abstract: An edge treatment for solid surfacing is provided which is attachable to a cantilevered margin (60) of the solid surfacing (50). The edge treatment may have a curved contour on a top (12) for finishing the cantilevered margin (60) of the solid surfacing (50). Angles in the cantilevered margin (60) are covered with corner edge treatments (10) having an inner cylindrical surface (16) and an outer cylindrical surface (18). A groove (20) is carved into the corner edge treatment (10) on a side thereof adjacent the cantilevered margin (60). The cantilevered margin (60) is provided with a tongue (62) having a complemental cross-section to that of the groove (20). The corner edge treatment (10) connects to the tongue (62) of the cantilevered margin (60) with adhesive interposed therebetween to form a secure and easily assembled edge for the solid surfacing (50).
Abstract: A means for concealing an antenna within an extension of a common roof structure using an electrically shortened element laminated between two layers of non-RF conductive material which add to the strength of the invention as well as concealability. The antenna itself comprises a vertical radiator and a helical counterpoise of metal strip, wire, or deposited metal fed at the center point. The entire antenna is housed between laminated layers of plastic in the form of a vent pipe.
Abstract: An extruded vinyl moulding strip for replacing the window in an automobile is provided. The strip has an "f" shaped cross section having an upper finger and a smaller finger located near the middle of the "f." The lower portion of the "F" has a foam strip adhesively adhered to the moulding strip. The foam strip allows air to contact the interior surface of a urethane bead placed on the lower portion of the "f" in order to allow the urethane to cure properly. The smaller finger operates as a guide to window replacement vis a vis the pinch weld of the window frame.
Abstract: A reversible foundation bolt holder is provided which has two separate grasping means. Each grasping means can either straddle a form adjacent a building foundation requiring a foundation bolt or may support the foundation bolt above the foundation by placement of the foundation bolt through holes therein. The two grasping means are oriented perpendicular to each other. The holes within each grasping means are of different sizes corresponding to different sized foundation bolts. The holes of each grasping means are located such that they will properly position a foundation bolt in the center of mudsills of varying dimensions. The foundation bolt holder thus has two operative orientations. One orientation locates the first grasping means straddling the form and the second grasping means supporting the foundation bolt. The second orientation locates the second grasping means straddling the form and the first grasping means supporting the foundation bolt.
