  • Patent number: 7186430
Abstract: A pasteurization arrangement employs regeneration to bring raw milk or other liquid food product up to a few degrees below a UHT pasteurizing temperature. The product is first heated up by regeneration to about 175° F., and held at this temperature for about sixty seconds to denaturize proteins so that they do not deposit on the heat exchange walls of following stages. Then the product proceeds through a product-product regenerative heat exchanger where it emerges at about 264° and proceeds to a water-product heater to heat the product to 280° F. The water flows in counter current to the product. The temperature differential at any reference point in the heater and the regenerative heat exchanger is below 20°, and the ratio of rate of water flow to product flow in the heater is below about 3:1.

  • Patent number: 7148412
Abstract: A percussion attachment mounts onto the rim of an African hand drum, e.g., Jembe, so that the percussionist can play both the drum and the percussion device without having to pick up a drumstick or striker. The percussion attachment has a brace and a striker. The brace has transverse curved bar that rests rest atop the annular flange formed by the crown ring of the drum. Uprights, i.e., vertical legs affixed to the curved bar extend downward so a foot portion rests against the drum. A transverse pivot member is supported on the uprights above the curved bar at a position above the rim of the drum. A cowbell or other percussion device is supported on the brace. An elongated striker pivots on pivot member, with a handle and a striker tip. The tip moves in a vertical arc so that it can hit the cowbell when the percussionist slaps the striker handle. A spring can bias the striker to a neutral position. There can be more than one striker, and more than one percussion device.

  • Patent number: 7121418
Abstract: A store fixture for displaying apparel or other hangable merchandise employs a horizontal support bar that is supported at an elevated position, and at least one swing-arm hang bar is pivotally supported situated underneath the horizontal support bar. The swing-arm hang bar has one or more projecting rods or tubes serving as arms on which the hangable merchandise can be suspended. The swing arm has a sleeve journaled on a pivot that is affixed to the support arm. There is a detent arrangement provided between the pivot and the sleeve, so that the swing-arm hang bar releasably locks into a first position that is at one angle to the horizontal support bar, parallel to the support bar, and a second position that is at another angle, a right angle, to it. Store personnel can change the orientation of the hang bars by simply lifting them up slightly to release the detents and ten rotating them to the desired position. Re-arranging the hang bars does not require any tools, nor removal or installation of any parts.

  • Patent number: 7057150
Abstract: A solid state imager with pixels arranged in columns and rows has the pixels are configured into groups of at least a first pixel and a second pixel, each said group sharing a pixel output transistor having a sense electrode and an output electrode and a reset transistor having a gate coupled to receive a reset signal and an output coupled to the sense electrode of the associated shared pixel output transistor. Each of the pixels has a photosensitive element whose output electrode is coupled to the sense electrode of the shared pixel output transistor and a gate electrode coupled to receive respective first and second pixel gating signals. This configuration reduces the number of FETs to two transistors for each pair of pixels, and also can achieve true correlated double sampling correction of FPN.

  • Patent number: 7039628
Abstract: A portable heath care records system employs a server on which the health care records of participating patients are stored. The patients are issued cards that are inserted into the patient's computer to access each patient's records via the Internet for review and editing. The patient record is protected by patient ID and password. Treating physicians have access to each patient's records for review and update. A firewall permits patients to review their own health records only, but permits the physician to review both the physician files and the patient files. An read-only emergency screen containing important medical data about the patient may be accessed without the patient's password. Records of many patients and of many clinics are maintained on a common server, so that the patient record can be accessed globally.

  • Patent number: 7028505
Abstract: A beverage chiller device for a serving pitcher has a lower stainless steel cylinder and an upper food-grade plastic sleeve. The upper end of the device is open to receive ice. A flexible strap attached onto the upper sleeve has a free end that can pass through a handle of the serving pitcher, with the lower end of the device immersed in the beverage and situated at a base of said pitcher. The flexible strap forms a closed loop that secures the chiller device to the serving pitcher. The flexible strap also permits the chiller device to pivot when the pitcher is tipped for pouring, so that the device remains more or less erect, and so meltwater does not pour out of the chiller device when the customer is pouring a drink from the pitcher. The flexible strap allows the stainless steel cylinder to drop down to the base of the pitcher, so the cylinder remains immersed in the beverage at the bottom of the pitcher.

  • Patent number: 6965407
Abstract: A solid state imager includes an arrangement for converting analog pixel values to digital form on an arrayed per-column basis. An N-bit counter supplies an N-bit DAC to produce an analog ramp output providing a ramp signal with a level that varies corresponding to the contents of the counter. Latches or equivalent digital storage elements are each associated with a respective column. A counter bus connects the counter to latch inputs of said latches, and comparators associated the columns gate the latches when the analog ramp equals the pixel value for that column. The contents of the latch elements are transferred sequentially to a video output bus to produce the digital video signal. There can be additionally black-level readout latch elements, for storing a digital value that corresponds to the dark or black video level, and a subtraction element subtracts the black level value from the pixel value to reduce fixed pattern noise. An additional array of buffer latches can be employed.
