  • Patent number: 4922327
Abstract: A semiconducting device and method of making the same are provided. The semiconducting device is provided with a gate, a source and a drain disposed on one side of a current carrying layer and a substrate formed from one type of semiconducting material disposed on the other side thereof. The current carrying layer includes a bulk region formed from said one type of semiconducting material and a drift region formed from the opposite type of semiconducting material, the bulk and the drift regions of which form a pn junction. The drift region includes a pair of parallel passages, one passage of which has a lower doping concentration than the other. The bulk region includes a first and a second portion, the first portion of which isolates the second portion from the other passage and has a lower doping concentration than the second portion and the one passage. The one passage is also extended so as to isolate the bulk region from the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4867321
Abstract: The invention provides a system for automatically balancing the jib of cranes of the type with articulated arms or telescopic arms depending on the variation of the reach of this jib.The annular section chambers of the hydraulic cylinder controlling the auxiliary arm of the crane and of the hydraulic cylinder controlling the pivoting arm carrying the counterweight are connected in series by a duct. The full section chambers of the hydraulic cylinders are connected selectively, by actuation of a valve, either to the pressure line or to the return line. In the right-hand position of the valve, the counterweight is pivoted and the arm is raised simultaneously, whereas in the opposite position of the valve the arm is lowered and the counterweight is raised.

  • Patent number: 4854577
Abstract: An hydraulic device is used for an exercise machine, having a double-acting hydraulic pump, which can be moved in one direction for developing one set of muscles (for example, biceps), and in the other direction for developing another set of muscles (for example, triceps). The invention provides a valve having two portions, each with a pressure regulating valve and a non-return valve. Oil displaced by operation of the pump in a first direction passes through a first pressure regulating valve, and return oil through a second non-return valve, and this is reversed when the pump is operated in a second direction. If the pressure regulating valves permit flow rates which differ, they can be made appropriate for movement effected by the different sets of muscles.

  • Patent number: 4842023
Abstract: A flexible hose comprises a flexible helically convoluted plastics material tube 12 wound helically with a reinforcing profile strip 14. The strip 14 is of such a cross-section as to support the tube wall and limit the maximum radius of curvature R2 at maximum flexion to a value less than that which is obtain with an equivalent standard hose FIG. 5). Preferably the profiled strip has a cross-section which is non-circular and comprises two components, one 18 being substantially axially of the tube, and the other 20 being substantially radially of the tube. The axial component provides support for the tube wall and the radial component serves to improve resistance to radial forces and limits the radius of curvature of the adjacent convolution.
