Patent number: 4863465Abstract: An intraocular lens for implantation within an eye after cataract surgery. The intraocular lens has a haptic having an elongated gently curving seating portion having a free end and a weakened portion about which such seating portion pivots. The weakened portion is spaced from the fulcrum formed at the location at which the haptic is anchored to the lens body such that the free end of the seating portion moves toward the lens body in response to compression of the seating portion toward the lens body for facilitating seating thereof, while minimizing the risk of injury to the delicate membranes in the eye by outwardly extending distal portions of the haptics.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1987Date of Patent: September 5, 1989Inventor: Charles D. Kelman

Patent number: 4849150Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fiber-reinforced resin pipe which including the steps of forming a plurality of layers by alternately winding a cloth-like material and a continuous fiber on a core. Placing the core in a split type outer mold having an inner surface which forms a desired outer surface of the pipe. Injecting a liquid synthetic resin between the outer mold and the core so that the liquid resin is integrated with the layers and cured into a molded product. Removing the molded product from the outer mold after the resin has cured and removing the core form the molded product.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1988Date of Patent: July 18, 1989Assignee: Nitto Boseki Co., LtdInventors: Hirokazu Kittaka, Akihiko Nishizaki, Toshihiro Ichijo

Patent number: 4843648Abstract: Sleeper pajamas for a young child, including a garment of relatively soft and porous fleece-like cloth fabric having leg portions terminating in tubular distal ends sized for loosely surrounding the child's legs, and boot members of non-porous and wear-resistant material connected to the distal ends, each member including a sole and a counter having an instep portion overlying the sole and arranged to space the instep portion upwardly and outwardly from the child's instep and to space the top end of the counter outwardly from the leg, for relatively unhindered insertion of the foot into the member and unhindered air circulation between the member interior and leg portion interior located proximally of the distal end and surrounding the leg, while spacing the distal end sufficiently above the sole to avoid contact of the garment with a surface on which the child may walk or run.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1988Date of Patent: July 4, 1989Inventor: Stanley Goldberg

Patent number: 4845641Abstract: A method of making a synthetic image in a simulation system for attachment of spectacles, in which a synthetic image of image pickup data of a spectacles frame taken in at a first magnification and image pickup data of a person's image derived from an imaging apparatus is made by a computer, and a state in which the person wears a pair of spectacles is displayed by a display apparatus, characterized by the steps of: calculating a second magnification to an actual person of the display image on a display screen on the basis of the coordinates of the positions of the apexes of the corneas of both of the right and left eyes which are detected from a still image on the display screen of a person who does not wear a pair of spectacles which is picked up by the imaging apparatus and is transmitted to the computer and on the basis of the information of the distance between the pupils of the person which is input from the computer; calculating the spectacles frame synthetic position on the display screen and a thirdType: GrantFiled: September 18, 1987Date of Patent: July 4, 1989Assignee: Hoya CorporationInventors: Noboru Ninomiya, Osamu Hagiwara, Toshira Yoda

Patent number: 4840755Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for producing compacted chopped strands having a high density, wherein flattened wetted chopped strands are prepared and subjected in the wetted state to a rolling action to change the flattened form into rounded rod-like form while being compacted. The chopped strands are conveyed horizontally along a vibrating carrier plate (44, 151, 151') so that the rolling action is imparted to the chopped strands during the convey. The chopped strands moving among the carrier plate (151, 151') is dried by heated air applied from the lower side of the chopped strands.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1988Date of Patent: June 20, 1989Assignee: Nitto Boseki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kogi Nakazawa, Toshihito Fujita

Patent number: 4676753Abstract: An identification kit comprising at least one base sheet printed with the outline shape of a human face desirably in color to represent a particular skin tone and including within the print outline highlighted areas and shaded areas but otherwise being generally featureless. A plurality of overlay elements are provided each printed with a detail of a human face, again in color and of a similar skin tone and designed to be positioned on the base sheet.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1985Date of Patent: June 30, 1987Assignee: Valley Printing Company LimitedInventor: Robert H. Patent number: 4668256Abstract: Apparatus for removing entrained liquid from a gas stream comprises a cylindrical casing (67) designed to be mounted so that its axis is substantially vertical. An inlet port (62) and a gas outlet port (63) are provided adjacent to the upper end of the casing and drain means (80) are provided at the lower end of the casing whereby separated liquid may be drained therefrom. A gas outlet tube (75) coaxial with the inner surface of the casing, extends downwardly from the upper end thereof, the outlet tube communicating at its upper end with the gas outlet port (63). A plurality of baffles (72) are arranged in an annulus around the outer surface of the outlet tube (75), the baffles being located downstream of the inlet port (62) and shaped to impart a spinning movement to the incoming gas stream. An impingement plate (77) is located downstream of the baffles and has an upper surface extending transversely across the path of the air stream leaving the baffles.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1985Date of Patent: May 26, 1987Assignee: Domnick Hunter Filters LimitedInventors: Colin T. Patent number: RE32840Abstract: A liquid spray jet assembly is disclosed destined particularly for use in dust and debris laden conditions such as on the cutting heads of mineral mining machines. The assembly comprises a housing for securing to a piece of apparatus, a jet which is a push fit into the interior of the housing and a resilient seating between the jet and a part of the housing. The seating is made from a compressible material and is so compressed by the jet when positioned in the housing that the restoring force causes part of the jet to bear against a surface of the housing facing towards the seating so holding the jet within the housing. The housing and the jet have communicating passages for the passage of liquid therethrough. Use of a push fit avoids the previously used screw threaded communications and makes jet replacement an extremely simple operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1982Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignee: Green & Bingham LimitedInventor: Garrick R.
