  • Patent number: 6695572
Abstract: A method and apparatus for minimizing the surface contamination of semiconductor wafers (11) during the semiconductor device manufacturing process. Semiconductor wafers (11) are stored in a storage cassette (12) with their face sides (17) facing downward and their back sides (16) facing upward. Particulate contamination present on the back sides of the wafers is thereby secured to the wafers by the force of gravity, and the faces of the wafers are shielded from falling debris. An automated wafer handling device (19) is provided with a rotary joint (22) to accomplish the wafer flipping motion before inserting a wafer into a cassette and after removing the wafer from the cassette.

  • Patent number: 6688561
Abstract: A system (40) and method for remotely monitoring the operating status of railroad grade crossing warning equipment. A sensor (46) generates a signal (48) responsive to the operation of a grade crossing annunciator (42). In one embodiment, the annunciator may be a bell or speaker horn (92) and the sensor may be an accelerometer (99) mechanically coupled to the bell. A wayside controller (52) uses the signal as input for developing information (70) indicative of the operating status of the annunciator. A communications link (74) transmits the information to a location remote from the grade crossing. A system controller (78) located at the remote location may diagnose the information to direct a maintenance center (82) and/or operations center (86) in response to an indication of degraded performance of the annunciator. The communications link may include the Internet and may be used for two-way communication between the remote location and the grade crossing location (22).

  • Patent number: 6690040
Abstract: A vertical JFET architecture. Generally, an integrated circuit structure includes a semiconductor area with a major surface formed along a plane and a first source/drain doped region formed in the surface. A second doped region forming a channel of different conductivity type than the first region is disposed over the first region. A third doped region is formed over the second doped region having an opposite conductivity type with respect to the second doped region, and forming a source/drain region. A gate is formed over the channel to form a vertical JFET.

  • Patent number: 6686662
Abstract: A barrier layer for a semiconductor device metallization component provides a silicon nitride film formed in a component recess and a refractory metal film formed over the silicon nitride film. The device component includes a dielectric material and a recess formed in the dielectric. The surface of the dielectric material within the recess is exposed to nitrogen under controlled parameters. A section of the dielectric material adjacent an interior of the recess is converted to silicon nitride. The refractory metal is then conformed deposited along the recess sidewalls. A seed layer is then deposited over the refractory metal film, and a conductive metal is then deposited within the recess. The device is then polished to remove excess metal outside the recess and planarize the device.

  • Patent number: 6687036
Abstract: High speed optical scanner systems and methods using optical multiplexing of wavelengths and spatial codes. In one form, a wavelength multiplexed optical scanner (W-MOS) is disclosed, wherein tuning the wavelength or selection of wavelength accomplishes a high speed, no-moving, parts scanner coupled with a wavelength dispersive element, such as a grating or a thin-film interference filter. In another form, a W-MOS employs beam expansion optics and a freespace-coupled wavelength dispersive element. In another embodiment, the invention includes a fiber-based W-MOS using an optical fiber coupled with a fiber-based wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) device to form a spatially distributed scanner for wide angular coverage in three-dimensional beam scanning. The invention also includes a code multiplexed optical scanner (C-MOS) that uses the principle of holography and spatial code multiple access optical communications.

  • Patent number: 6683432
Abstract: A safety circuit is described that monitors a number of sensors for intrusion of objects or people into the workspace of a robot and controls the drive power to the motion control system via an emergency-stop circuit. The system monitors the motion control system and models it as just another sensor to ensure that it is working properly. In the event that there is intrusion, the safety circuit assigns a degree of intrusion (e.g., precautionary or serious). For serious intrusions, the safety circuit kills drive power thereby preventing additional motion of the robot. Killing drive power (de-energizing the emergency-stop circuit) requires a qualified operator to restart for further operation. For precautionary intrusions, the safety circuit takes control of the motion control system by disabling the power stages of motion control amplifiers but retaining drive power there. This inhibits further motion. The safety circuit keeps the amplifiers inhibited for a period to permit the intrusion time to clear.

  • Patent number: 6674658
Abstract: A power converter device using synchronous rectifiers and method for controlling operation thereof are provided. A first synchronous rectifier is coupled to the secondary transformer winding to pass a voltage induced at the secondary winding in response to an input voltage supplied to the primary transformer winding during an on-state of a main power switch. A first drive circuit is coupled to the gate terminal of the first synchronous rectifier to selectively activate and deactivate the first rectifier in correspondence with the respective on and off states of the main power switch based on a gate voltage supplied by the first drive circuit, with at least one circuit parameter being selected in the first drive circuit for maintaining the gate voltage within a predefined range regardless of variation in the level of the input voltage.
