  • Patent number: 4450244
Abstract: A catalyst is disclosed for combustion of pollutants contained in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines operated with alcohol. The catalyst consists of a metal carrier, a coating deposited on it made of a catalytically active aluminum oxide and an amount of palladium deposited on said coating. A production process for the catalyst is described which provides a final activation in oxidizing atmosphere or a formation in the stream of the exhaust gas that is to be purified at certain temperatures as well as the use of the catalyst for the simultaneous elimination of aldehydes, alcohols, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons present in the exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 4449647
Abstract: A handle assembly for a pressurized dispensing container consists of a handle 12 and a collar 11. The collar is fitted with legs 28, provided with bulbous portions 29 which clip resiliently into a groove 20 in the valve cup. The handle is provided with lugs 41 which engage with the collar. The handle is inserted into the collar and twisted to engage the lugs 41 with the collar to retain the handle. The lugs also press against legs 28 to prevent the collar becoming detached from the cam 13. A rachet surface 30 is provided around the top of the collar which is engaged by a tab on the handle as the handle is twisted to lock it into the collar. The rachet surface thus prevents the handle from being disengaged by being twisted in a direction opposite to that required for engaging the lugs.

  • Patent number: 4447389
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing tubes by sintering and infiltration, the characteristic features of the invention being that the tube wall is formed from a metal powder on a mandrel and is sintered and that the tube wall, during one sintering stage, is sealed by infiltration by means of an infiltration material which solidifies in situ when the temperature is lowered after sintering and which is capable, when in the liquid state, of wetting the metal powder particles, the molding of the tube from the metal powder being preferably carried out by a wet or dry pressing process or by extrusion of the metal powder.

  • Patent number: 4445809
Abstract: Powders with a relatively low bulk density can be emptied from transportation containers only with a large and undesired production of dust. The apparatus for emptying powder-filled containers consists of a suction tube on which a fluidizing device is arranged in the neighborhood of the open end of the tube. This fluidizing device can have the form of a double-jacketed cone concentrically about the tube, or a hollow sphere concentrically about the tube. Fluidizing air can be introduced into the powder through bores arranged in the direction of the opening of the tube. To prevent the suction tube being sucked onto the container wall, the opening of the suction tube has a crenelated edge.

  • Patent number: 4446192
Abstract: A wear-resistant rubber product adapted to be used as, for example, a lifter in grinding mills, comprises at least two prefabricated parts (11, 12) interconnected with one another by means of a binder layer having a thickness of at least 2 mm and consisting of in situ cast and cured polyurethane. The wear-resistant rubber product is manufactured by placing the prefabricated cured rubber parts (11, 12) at a distance of at least 2 mm from one another and by introducing, preferably injecting a reacting urethane rubber composition with excess isocyanate groups into the gap (13) to cause said prefabricated parts on either side of said gap to be contacted subtantially simultaneously by the said urethane rubber composition.

  • Patent number: 4444650
Abstract: Disclosed is a continuous or discontinuous process for coking high-boiling aromatic hydrocarbons to form high grade carbon products having only a narrow range of variation of physical and chemical properties. High-boiling aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures are coked in thin layers according to a defined temperature/time program, and the functional relationship between layer thickness and optimum coking time, which applies to that program for the particular hydrocarbon mixture used, is determined by means of a simple preliminary experiment. A small quantity of the hydrocarbon mixture used is coked on a microscope hot stage under standardized conditions to determine the minimum coking temperature, the time to the final coking temperature and the dependence of coking time on the layer thickness.

  • Patent number: 4442308
Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing acrolein from propylene and methacrolein from isobutylene or tertiary butanol, by oxidation in oxygen-containing gas mixtures on specially prepared coated catalysts comprised of an inert support and a coating, enclosing this support, of an oxidic catalyst material containing the elements nickel, cobalt, iron, bismuth, phosphorus, molybdenum and tantalum or samarium and, if appropriate, also alkali metal or alkaline earth metal in certain atomic ratios. This coated catalyst is obtained by spraying a suspension of the starting material for the coating, which suspension contains a binder and, if appropriate, a pore-former, from above in an increasing amount onto a bed of the support, which bed is mechanically agitated and loosened up by a gas stream blow in from below, the ratio between suspending medium sprayed on and removed again by the gas stream remaining approximately constant.
