  • Patent number: 5876959
Abstract: A method for detecting, identifying and measuring infectious disease causing microorganisms is described. The method utilizes a plural medium arrangement in which a test liquid containing a microorganism is simultaneously introduced. Different media are utilized for the plural medium arrangement and at least one of the media can contain a respiration inhibiting material and/or other reagents such as antibiotics. Dissolved oxygen measurements of the media are taken as a measurement of microorganism respiration. Oxygen electrode signals within different media are compared and differential respiration variation rates are determined and identification signals produced. The identification signal resulting from the multiple respiration rate determinations is compared with known values to identify and measure the microorganism. The drug sensitivity of a microorganism is also judged when at least one of the media contains a drug for which the sensitivity of microorganism is to be determined.

  • Patent number: 5874797
Abstract: An electrical generator has at least one rotating ring of field magnets which produce a circular array of magnetic fields, and a ring of generator output coils which are in the magnetic fields. The field magnets are permanent magnets. The generator output coils are movable in a displacement path toward and away from a null position at which they are exposed to zero net flux from the magnetic fields. Movement of the coils by an actuator varies the amplitude of the voltage induced in these coils by the rotating field magnets. The actuator is energized by an alternating current to create a mechanical oscillation of the generator output coils in their displacement path. The coils provide a raw amplitude-modulated signal that has a carrier frequency which is a function of the rotational velocity of the field magnets and a modulation frequency that is proportional to the mechanical oscillation of the generator output coils.

  • Patent number: 5874200
Abstract: A method for forming a pattern for preventing the formation of water marks on a semiconductor substrate during drying the semiconductor substrate after forming a resist pattern on the semiconductor substrate using a photoresist, is disclosed. An insulating layer is formed on the semiconductor substrate and the resist pattern is formed on the insulating layer. The resist pattern is exposed to ultraviolet rays to reduce the hydrophobicity of the surface portion of the resist pattern. Then, the exposed portion of the insulating layer by the resist pattern is wet etched by using the resist pattern as an etching mask. The sheet off time of deionized water from the surface of the resist pattern is lengthened. The semiconductor substrate becomes relatively hydrophobic when compared to the resist pattern. And the sheet off time of the remaining deionized water on the semiconductor substrate is shorter than that of the deionized water on the resist pattern.

  • Patent number: 5870898
Abstract: An air curtain fan driving controlling method and apparatus control a driving of an air curtain based on the temperature inside a refrigerating compartment of a refrigerator and the temperature outside a refrigerating compartment thereof. In the method, a reference temperature for controlling a temperature inside a refrigerating compartment is set. The normal cool operation for the refrigerating compartment is executed. It is judged whether an open door for the refrigerating compartment is detected during the normal cooling operating. In the previous step, when the door-close is detected, the temperature inside the refrigerating compartment and the temperature outside the refrigerating compartment is detected. An absolute value between a difference of the temperature inside a refrigerating compartment and the temperature outside the refrigerating compartment is compared with the set reference temperature to control a driving of the air curtain fan.
