  • Patent number: 7456549
Abstract: The present invention relates to mechanical-electrical power conversion systems. The systems comprise one or more electroactive polymers that convert between electrical and mechanical energy. When a voltage is applied to electrodes contacting an electroactive polymer, the polymer deflects. This deflection may be converted into rotation of a power shaft included in a motor. Repeated deflection of the polymer may then produce continuous rotation of the power shaft.

  • Patent number: 7456102
Abstract: Disclosed is a procedure for bottom-up fill of electroless copper film in sub-micron integrated circuit features. By repeatedly placing an integrated circuit wafer in an electroless bath, a transient period of time of accelerated growth in the feature is repeated to achieve many small layers of deposition, each of which is thicker near the base of the feature. The net result is filing of the feature from the bottom-up fill without formation of voids. The electroless bath employed to form the continuous electroless copper film may include a reducing agent, a complexing agent, a source of copper ions, a pH adjuster, and optionally one or more surfactants and/or stabilizers.

  • Patent number: 7425503
Abstract: An apparatus and method for an enhanced thermally conductive package for high powered semiconductor devices. The package includes a semiconductor die having an active surface and a non-active surface and a metal layer formed on the non-active surface of the die. The package is intended to be mounted onto a metal pad provided on a printed circuit board. A solder is used to affix the metal layer on the non-active surface of the die to the metal pad of the printed circuit board. The interface between the die and the printed circuit board thus includes just three metal layers, including the non-active surface of the die, the solder, and the metal pad on the printed circuit board. The reduced number of metal layers improves heat dissipation and thermal conductivity of the package.

  • Patent number: 7369685
Abstract: A vision-based operating system is provided in which a computer-based system accepts visual inputs and takes appropriate actions in a wide variety of environments. One environment is a security environment in which the vision-based operating system acquires an image of a face and determines, with an arbitrarily small probability of a false positive, whether the face is of a person who is authorized to enter the environment. The method employed may include acquiring a digital image for comparison to a reference image and identifying a group of pixels in the acquired image. A pixel group in the reference image that is the best match for the pixel group in the acquired image is selected. These steps are repeated for at least one more group of pixels. The relative locations of the selected pixel groups in the reference images and the pixel groups in the acquired image are compared, and the probability that the relative locations occurred randomly is determined.

  • Patent number: 7369724
Abstract: A polymer waveguide assembly. The assembly includes a polymer waveguide have a plurality of waveguide cores and an associated plurality of lenses respectively. The assembly also includes a molded lens structure having a support region, a primary refractive surface and a secondary refractive lens. The polymer waveguide is positioned onto the support surface of the molded lens structure so that the waveguide lenses are in optical alignment with the primary refractive lens and the secondary refractive lens of the molded waveguide structure. • Patent number: 7366236
Abstract: This invention discloses a fast two-dimensional inverse Discrete Cosine Transform (iDCT) that adapts to compressed video source statistics to reduce execution time. iDCT algorithms for sparse blocks eliminate calculations for some zero coefficients and are implemented with quad-word parallel single-instruction-multiple-data (SIMD) multimedia instructions. It is observed that end-of-block marker value histograms vary little within single shots. An adaptive control mechanism is proposed that selects the optimal set of iDCTs to prepare for an entire shot from its first frames (to reduce software overheads and penalties). This introduces no degradation of decoded video quality as compared with a conventional SIMD 8×8 iDCT implemented with Intel MMX instructions.

  • Patent number: 7360888
Abstract: This invention allows images to be printed up to the edges of printing paper while preventing ink droplets from depositing on the platen. Ink droplets Ip are ejected from a print head 28 and printing is started when printing paper P is fed in the sub-scanning direction by upstream paper feed rollers 25a and 25b, and the front edge Pf reaches a position above a downstream slot 26r. Since printing is started when the front edge Pf of printing paper P has reached a position behind nozzle No. 1, images can be printed without forming blank spaces up to the front edge Pf of the printing paper P by causing the nozzles to eject ink droplets Ip irrespective of whether the nozzles are above the printing paper. When images are formed in the vicinity of the front edge Pf of printing paper P, the paper is repeatedly fed in small increments in the sub-scanning direction, and printing is carried out.

  • Patent number: 7362319
Abstract: Determining a horizontal resolution and a phase of an analog video signal arranged to display a number of scan lines each formed of a number of pixels is described. A number of initialization values are set where at least one of the initialization values is a current horizontal resolution and then a difference value for each immediately adjacent ones of the pixels is determined. Next, an edge flag value based upon the difference value is stored in at least one of a number of accumulators such that when at least one of the accumulators has a stored edge flag value that is substantially greater than those stored edge flag values in the other accumulators, then the horizontal resolution is set to the current resolution.

  • Patent number: 7362742
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enabling mobility of a node that does not support Mobile IP through synchronization of access point information (e.g., subnet mapping tables) among AAPs are disclosed. In accordance with one embodiment, an authoritative access point (AAP) maintains access point information for all functioning access points (APs) and sends updates for all additions or other modifications to the continually changing access point information to other AAPs. This is accomplished by sending a copy of its local subnet mapping table to the other AAPs. The AAPs receiving the subnet mapping table then update their subnet mapping tables corresponding to the received subnet mapping table.
