  • Patent number: 4977342
Abstract: An electromagnetic vibration generator or shaker comprises an armature suspended from a stator and having a coil carried by the armature located in an air gap in the stator. A D.C. magnetic field is produced across the air gap and when an alternating current is fed through the armature coil the armature virbrates along its longitudinal axis. According to the invention the armature is suspended at its periphery by a plurality of suspension members which are arranged in pairs and allow free movement of the armature along its axis of vibration. However the two members of each pair are arranged at an angle to each other and exhibit a stiffness to lateral movement of the armature so as to restrain turning forces acting on the armature in either direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4976993
Abstract: Apparatus and method for transparentizing and glossing a resin-coated surface on sheet or web material which may comprise paper or transparency overhead projection stock, includes the delivery of such resin-coated material into intimate contact with non-wetting heated matter supplied in a pool or bath for a time sufficient to transfer heat by conduction from the non-wetting matter to the resin surface. The temperature of the bath is maintained above the glass transition temperature of the resin. The resin coated material may be applied by a roll partially immersed in the bath, or an offset or transfer roll may be positioned in the bath to deliver heated matter from the bath, in non-pressure relation, to the exposed resin surface.

  • Patent number: 4974819
Abstract: An isolating mount for connecting two parts or mechanisms includes a rigid bushing surrounded by a resilient block which includes cavities on opposite sides of the bushing located along a first plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bushing and passage formed between the cavities. A quantity of liquid fills the cavities and a passage, providing a liquid column of predetermined inertia in the passage between the cavities for controlling forces transmitted through the bushing to provide tuning of the damping characteristics of the mount to preselected frequencies of vibration. A rigid outer body surrounds and contacts the block and exerts compressive force thereon substantially along the first plane. The bushing is connected to one of the two parts to be isolated and the outer body is connected to the other of the two parts.

  • Patent number: 4974313
Abstract: A lead guide actuating mechanism for use on armature winding machines is mounted on the same non-rotating structure that supports the wire guide forms at the end of the flyer drive shaft. An axially movable piston surrounds the flyer motor drive shaft. The piston, when actuated, contacts rollers mounted on a diametrical arranged arm mounted for rotation with the flyer drive shaft. There is no contact between the piston and the rollers until the piston is actuated. The lead guide is attached to an extension of an axially aligned pin that has a bearing surface on its end which engages the arm; it is also moved axially when the piston is actuated, and thus the lead guide is moved into position in response to the action of the piston. The lead guide and the wire guide forms are mounted on a common non-rotating structure that can be quickly removed from the flyer drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4974782
Abstract: A two roll pressure developer for a microencapsulated web or medial material includes rolls which have a support shaft through the center, a hollow annular shell, and load-bearing elastomer material between the shaft and the shell supporting the shell and controlling the deflection of the shaft under development loads. The elastomer material is formed as a plurality of discrete annular segments with inside diameters mounted on the shaft and outer diameters mounted in the shell. The segments are distributed along the length of the shaft so as to provide the roll with a variable modulus of elasticity which is highest at the axial center of the shaft and lower at the ends. In one embodiment, the segments are identical in width and are varied in pitch or axial spacing. In another embodiment, the segments are spaced at the same pitch but are varied in axial thickness.

  • Patent number: 4972885
Abstract: A power module for providing power to any one of a plurality of special purpose woodworking tools has a variable speed headstock on a base, and a tool support carriage on the base. The tool support carriage is formed with two pairs of tube-receiving sockets for receiving the support tubes of a special purpose woodworking tool. The sockets are formed at two different levels above the base, such levels corresponding to the difference in spacing of the input shaft connections with respect to the support tubes. The base is mounted for movement toward and away from the headstock, providing alignment of the input shaft with the headstock hub. A variable speed drive in the headstock employs an intermediate three-section pulley of the variator type, and a speed control knob is connected to position the variable speed drive to provide for the selection of speed for any particular tool.
