  • Patent number: 4591629
Abstract: A method for reducing the volatile component content of crude high molecular weight polyesters containing said component. The method comprises first contacting the crude polyester with steam, or a mixture of steam and inert gas and/or air, at a temperature of 100.degree. to 245.degree. C. to form a partially treated polyester. The second step comprises further contacting the product of the first step with an inert gas and/or air at a temperature of 200.degree. to 245.degree. C. to produce the purified polyester. In particular, the method is intended for use with such polyesters as polyethylene terephthalate which contains acetaldehyde as the undesired volatile component.A new method of analysis useful in the foregoing process is also disclosed. The products of the new process are primarily intended for use in the manufacture of plastic bottles or similar containers for use in the foodstuffs industry.

  • Patent number: 4494769
Abstract: The toe abutment member of a ski binding is adapted to cooperate with a ski boot provided with a sole having a truncated front end and a toe-cap extension in overhung relation to the truncated front end. The abutment member comprises a feeler element placed directly beneath the toe-cap extension of the ski boot in close proximity to the toe-cap extension under normal skiing conditions. In the event of a forward fall, the feeler element undergoes a vertical displacement in the downward direction under the thrust exerted by said extension while producing a reduction in inherent stiffness of release of the toe abutment member.

  • Patent number: 4452831
Abstract: A method for producing elastomeric foils by continuously impregnating a non-woven fabric with a resinous composition in liquid form selected from the group consisting of (a) a resin based on polyhydroxy compounds or polyamines or mixtures thereof and polyisocyanates, (b) resins based or polyhydroxy compounds or polyamines or polycarboxyl compounds or mixtures thereof and polyepoxides and (c) an impregnating mixture based on rubber latex, drying and curing the impregnated fabric freely suspended in hot air and removing the dried foil which is useful as an intermediate layer in the bonding of objects with a high E-molulus and the bonded object per se.

  • Patent number: 4443594
Abstract: A process for the production of adenine ring system containing co-enzymes bound to a macro-molecular carrier comprising the steps of alkylating an adenine ring system containing co-enzyme in the 1 position with an alkylating agent containing a terminal group capable of reacting with said macro-molecular carrier selected from the group consisting of carboxyl, amine and vinyl, reacting said alkylated co-enzyme with a macro-molecular carrier having groups capable of reacting with said terminal groups, subjecting said alkylated co-enzyme bound to a macro-molecular carrier to a Dimroth rearrangement into the N.sup.6 -form of alkylation, and recovering said adenine ring system containing co-enzyme bound to a macro-molecular carrier.

  • Patent number: 4442244
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing compositions for coating metal substrates or work pieces in an aqueous bath, in which the substrate forms the cathode. In this process 5-35% by weight of at least one epoxy resin, 2-20% by weight of at least one ketone and/or hydrocarbon resin, 15-60% by weight of at least one cationic synthetic resin having functional groups--this compound is a 10-50% by weight dispersion or solution--, 5-30% by weight of at least one organic cross-linking agent, which is solid at ambient temperature and 0-73% by weight of pigments and/or conventional adjuvants are processed together in one or more stages in a grinding apparatus to form a homogeneous coating composition. At least one stage being a wet operation. The composition has a particle size of less than 100 .mu.m, preferably less than 15 .mu.m. The grinding bath is adjusted with water to the solids content required for application.

  • Patent number: 4432042
Abstract: A book-light characterized by its small size and light weight is formed from suitable plastic material with a base supporting a vertical lamp-bearing arm and an integral clamp consisting of a U-shaped frame having side arms rigidly attached to the base and a central plate flexibly attached to the base so that the entire book-light may be attached to a book or other publication by inserting the cover or pages between arms and the central plate. The vertical lamp-bearing arm is mounted at one end in a transverse slot in the base, while the other end supports the lamp proper in a manner to permit both circular and vertical motions.

  • Patent number: 4386844
Abstract: A two cycle electrophotographic copying apparatus includes an operatively rotatable photosensitive body, an electric charging device, a cleaning lamp disposed upstream of the charging device, and a neutralizing electrode disposed downstream of the charging device. This novel arrangement of the cleaning lamp and neutralizing electrode results in a significantly reduced occurrence of toner contamination by residual electric field attraction to operating and structural portions of the copying apparatus which are positioned about the photosensitive body.
