Abstract: An engine cooling fan system including a hub disc about which first and/or second pluralities of elongated fan blades characterized by a first and second respective pitch angles may be fastened. Each respective fan blade further comprises a hub-engaging portion, a twisted transition portion and an air-engaging portion. Each fan blade is formed from a composite material having a thermoset resin matrix phase and an evenly dispersed continuous fiber reinforcement phase.

Abstract: A conveyor for transporting objects sensitive to electrostatic discharge. In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a roller conveyor with conductive rollers in electrical communication with an electrical ground. The rollers preferably have about 105 ohms resistance from the outer diameter to the inner diameter to ensure that electrostatic charges built up on the conveyed object can flow to ground, yet not flow too quickly. In another embodiment, the roller shafts are supported on highly conductive bushings that provide a path to electrical ground that is preferably less that 104 ohms. In yet another embodiment, the roller shafts are driven by a conductive pulley that minimizes the build-up of electrostatic charge as a result of a triboelectric effect with the drive belt.

Abstract: An inverter for use in connecting a DC power source to the utility grid includes a single DC-AC conversion stage, maximum (source) power tracking, and current control based on feed-forward compensation as a function of input power voltage error, rectified utility line voltage, and a scaled inverse of RMS utility line voltage. Various topologies of the inverter power stage are developed for bi-directional power-flow operation after those developed for unidirectional power-flow operation. Various embodiments also include over-voltage protection, over-current protection, under-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, and stand-by battery with battery management control, while still others are adapted for a multiple-channel front-end distributed power system with distributed maximum power tracking for serving as a single DC power source input to the inverter system downstream with controllers, emergency or auxiliary loads, and alternative current feedback control systems.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for forming, filling, and sealing a flexible recloseable container. Both vertical and horizontal methods for placing product within the container are disclosed. The invention includes guiding a web of film which has interlocking fastener strips sealed to the web. A slider for locking and unlocking the fastener strips is placed in the correct orientation, spread apart at a pair of inner feet, and inserted over the fastener strips. The slider is positioned to close a substantial portion of the strips, and then an end stop, docking station, and corner seal are formed against a sealing plate. The slider is then repositioned, and a tamper evident seal may be placed over the fastener strip. Apparatus and methods for placing a product in a flexible recloseable container, and also for manufacturing an empty, flexible recloseable container.

Abstract: A flexible reclosable container including profiles which are locked and unlocked by a slider. One embodiment of the slider has a pair of feet which extend from one end of the slider to the other end and which resist pulling of the slider off of the profiles. Another embodiment of the slider has three spaced pairs of feet which resist removal of the slider from the profiles. The slider in one embodiment has an enlarged central portion which facilitates grasping the slider and is easy to manufacture by die casting.

Abstract: A horn including a substantially flat coupling flange defining a coupling flange plane, a substantially planar mouth defining a mouth plane, an elongated throat extending between the coupling flange and the mouth, a transducer for generating a sonic output operationally connected to the coupling flange, and a major axis extending through the elongated throat. The coupling flange plane and the mouth plane are nonparallel and define a horn angle. The major axis connects the coupling flange and the mouth and the elongated throat is characterized by a substantially steadily increasing sectional area along the major axis from the transducer-connecting end to the mouth connecting end.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for adjusting the position of a cutting tool. In one embodiment, a boring tool includes a coupling member which is driven by a CNC boring machine, and a sliding tool holder which is slidably coupled to the coupling member. A frictional force resists sliding movement of the cutting tool holder. The frictional force is sufficient to retain the position of the cutting tool during machining operations. However, the frictional force is insufficient to resist a lateral force applied parallel to the direction of sliding, as used during adjustment of the tool position. In another embodiment, either a surface of the sliding tool holder or a surface of a frictional member are contoured with a shape that corresponds to a desired contour of a sidewall of a hole. During machining, a follower in contact with the contoured surface causes the cutting tool holder to slide laterally during machining, thus contouring the sidewall of the hole.

Abstract: An alarm system for use with a motor vehicle to sound an alert whenever child passengers are left unattended and belted in a parked motor vehicle, including a transmitter for generating a radio signal characterized by a predetermined frequency, a receiver for receiving and rectifying the radio signal, a sensor for sending an ignition status signal to the receiver if the vehicle ignition is on, a timer for sending an activation signal in response to the receiver receiving the radio message and the ignition status signal, and an alarm for generating an audible signal in response to receipt of the activation signal.

Abstract: A reclosable fastener tape includes a first fastener strip and a second fastener strip that is adapted to mate with the first fastener strip in a reclosable fashion. A sheet connects the first fastener strip to the second fastener strip. The sheet has an unpunctured tear line formed between the first fastener strip and the second fastener strip for providing a tamper evident hermetic seal when the fastener tape is sealed with a bag.

Abstract: A transportable utility carrier apparatus for coupling to a transport vehicle, including an upper frame, a recessed platform connected to the upper frame, a wheeled base, a lift system interposed between the base and the upper frame for moving the wheeled base relative to the platform between a transport position and a freestanding position, a square hitch tube connected to the upper frame, and a rollered receiver hitch mountable to the transport vehicle. The wheels are spaced from the ground in the transport position. The square hitch tube is receivable within the rollered receiver hitch and the rollered receiver hitch eases insertion of the square hitch tube thereinto to prevent binding on unleveled ground.

Abstract: Both apparatus and methods for flexible recloseable containers with peel seals are disclosed. In one embodiment, the peel seal has a height greater than the height of the fastener strip flange to which it is attached. The upper portion of the peel seal is attached to the flange. The lower portion of peel seal is attached to a wall of the container. Also disclosed are methods for fabricating containers, and also for forming, filling, sealing a container with a product therein.

Abstract: A reclosable container with a slider arranged to open and close interlockable profiles on the mouth of the container. The profiles are fixed together at one end but are separable at the other end to allow a gusset to fold outwardly to form a pour spout.

Abstract: A thermostatic mixing valve for the mixing of a first fluid and a second fluid is disclosed. The thermostatic mixing valve is configured to produce a mixed fluid of a particular temperature from a first fluid of a temperature higher than or equal to the particular temperature and a second fluid of a temperature lower than or equal to the particular temperature. The thermostatic mixing valve includes a valve body having a first fluid inlet, a second fluid inlet, and a mixed fluid outlet. The thermostatic mixing valve also includes a valve member configured to control the rate of flow of at least the first fluid.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for producing a safely disposable end product from waste matter containing undesirable materials, such as infectious, biohazardous, hazardous, or radioactive elements. The method comprises the steps of providing a highly basic solvent, immersing the waste matter containing the undesirable materials within the highly basic solvent, and heating the solvent. The waste matter containing the undesirable materials is allowed to remain within the solvent until digested, thereby forming a solution void of any infectious or biohazardous elements and/or containing a decreased concentration of radioisotope.

Abstract: A dichroic type narrow-band-pass filter is used as a beamsplitter inside a night vision goggle eyepiece. The filter is combined with appropriately aligned polarizers and liquid crystal type shutter rotators movable between a “P” orientation and an “S” orientation to transmit center band and side band wavelengths of the normal view or night scene for recording, transmitting or enhancing. In the enhanced low light level mode, the intensified visible image presented to the user comprises a 40 degree circular image with a 30 degree by 22.5 degree rectangular display insert.

Abstract: A storage device for off-floor storage, including a base for emplacement on a floor of a storage area, a substantially vertical support member extending from the base and defining a deployment axis, a platform movably connected to the vertical support member, and a lift actuator operationally connected to the platform. The lift actuator may be energized to move the platform into any one of a plurality of substantially parallel vertical positions oriented generally transversely to the deployment axis. The base is decoupled from the floor.
