    Abstract: A system and method are described in which space-time coding techniques are used to transmit and receive multiple data streams within a near vertical incidence skywave (“NVIS”) communication system. Within the NVIS communication system, multiple independent data streams may be transmitted from a transmitting station at a high radiation angle, approaching or reaching 90 degrees. The data streams are reflected off of the ionosphere of the earth and received by one or more receiving stations. In one embodiment, the space-time coding techniques are multiple-input multiple-output (“MIMO”) signal communication techniques.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for unifying multiple radio frequency identifications (RFIDs) are provided. The apparatus includes: a data arithmetic operator collecting RFIDs, storing the collected RFIDs, and repeatedly performing the collection and storage when a time out event occurs; a hash arithmetic operator concatenating the RFIDs, hashing the concatenated RFIDs, and outputting a hashed single value; a random number generator generating a random number used as an encryption factor to public-key-encrypt the single value; an RFID tag processor controlling locking/unlocking of the RFID tags; a public key arithmetic operator public-key-encrypting the single value using a predetermined public key and the random number as encryption factors and outputting a cipher text; and a radio frequency communicator converting the cipher text into a radio signal and sending the radio signal to a radio section. Information transmitted to a radio section is a cipher text obtained by public-key-encrypting the single value.

    Abstract: A system providing methods for improved compression of images that have been compressed using Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) based compression is described. A digital image that has been compressed using DCT based compression, such as an image compressed using the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) compression scheme, is received and partially decompressed to generate DCT coefficients of the image. The decoded coefficients of the image are then rearranged to aggregate like frequencies together. After rearrangement, the image is recompressed using a wavelet-based compression scheme.

    Abstract: A protocol for superimposing status information onto an arbitration scheme between a first bus agent and a second bus agent. One embodiment of the arbitration scheme uses a grant signal and a request signal to arbitrate for use of a bus. The second bus agent may request to use the bus by asserting a request signal, which is received by a bus arbitration circuit. The bus arbitration circuit may or may not reside within the first bus agent. The bus arbitration logic acknowledges the request by asserting a grant signal, which is received by the second bus agent. A specific relationship between an address phase and the arbitration signals allows the first bus agent to pass status information to the second bus agent via the grant signal. The specific relationship between an address phase and the arbitration signals is a condition that typically does not occur where the arbitration signals are used to arbitrate for use of the bus.

    Abstract: An add/drop device is described that allows channels from a multi-channel optical path to be dropped to a device and a new or modified channel to be added to the multi-channel optical path. The device thereby has access to a channel from the multi-channel optical path without having access to all of the channels. In one embodiment, the add/drop device of the invention includes one or more intermediate ports and a switch. The intermediate ports communicate the channels not dropped by the add/drop device and the switch selectively optically couples the dropped channel either to the device or to be added back into the multi-channel path. The switch also selectively optically couples the new or modified channel to be added to the multi-channel path. The one or more intermediate ports allow multiple add/drop devices to be optically coupled together to provide a configurable add/drop mechanism.

    Abstract: The present invention is an active-control system for attenuating noise in a duct having a fluid flow. An array of stators having a longitudinal length is positioned axially within the duct. A first array of sound sources capable of generating spinning mode sound and is positioned a distance upstream of a first plane defined by the upstream-most portion of the stators, relative to the fluid flow. The upstream distance is less than the longitudinal length of the stators. A second array of sound sources capable of generating spinning mode sound and is positioned a distance downstream of a second plane defined by the downstream-most portion of the stators, relative to the fluid flow. The downstream distance is less than the longitudinal length of the stators. A controller causes the first and second arrays of sound sources to generate sound including spinning mode sound such that it cancels a portion of the noise within the fluid flow that passes through the stators.

Subsequent to the creation of the look-up service and the callee connection service, the invention determines whether the callee is connected to the network. If yes, a network phone call connection to the callee is established. If no, the look-up service and callee connection service is employed to connect the callee to network. Then, once this is done, a network phone call connection to the callee is established.

    Abstract: An interface and method for a synchronous DRAM (syncDRAM) memory are provided that improve performance. The read operation in a syncDRAM is significantly sped up by eliminating the step of opening a new page of data in a SyncDRAM using a speculative read method. This provides the ability to open a page of information in the SyncDRAM with a command generator in response to a data request. Speculative read logic is also included to continue reading from the page with an invalid address until a second read request occurs. Thus, in the event that a subsequent read request occurs that requests data located on the same page as the prior request, the data can be indexed and read from a location on that page without having to first assert the SCS# and SCAS#. This frequently removes the step of opening a page from the read process and, over time, can significantly speed up the overall SyncDRAM reads in a computer system.
