  • Patent number: 6146572
Abstract: A method for forming a socket on a pipe of biaxially oriented polyvinyl chloride including: placing a support in an end section of the pipe, heating the pipe in the region of the end section; deforming the pipe to produce a socket in the region of the heated end section, the heated end section being supported internally while the socket is being formed; cooling the pipe in the region of the end section, the end section being supported internally during the cooling operation; and removing the support from the pipe. For the purpose of heating the internally supported end section of the pipe, the end section is first heated until the end section has reached, substantially homogeneously, the glass transition temperature of polyvinyl chloride and is then further heated until the end section has reached, substantially homogeneously, a temperature near, preferably just above, the orientation temperature of polyvinyl chloride.

  • Patent number: 6147229
Abstract: A method produces magnesium fulvate from naturally-occurring humus material, such as leonardite, or humic shales. The humus material containing solid fulvic acid and solid humic acid is mixed with water and sodium hydroxide for a first selected period of time to form a solution having a pH of approximately 10.0 thereby solubilizing the fulvic acid and the humic acid. The pH of the solution is reduced to approximately 4.5 and is maintained at the approximately pH 4.5 for second selected period of time thereby precipitating the humic acid as a solid while the fulvic acid remains in solution. The fulvic acid solution is separated from the solid humic acid. The pH of the fulvic acid solution is increased to approximately 13 with magnesium hydroxide thereby precipitating the solubilized fulvic acid as magnesium fulvate.

  • Patent number: 6146188
Abstract: A shear connector includes a plug connector having front and rear insert portions on opposite sides of the shear plane that are held together by a shear bolt scored to shear at a predetermined force, and which is threaded directly into openings in the rear insert in such a way as to eliminate relative movement between the shear bolts and the rear insert during shearing. Pin contact sections extending rearwardly from the front insert are scored at the shear plane to shear at a predetermined force. By varying clearances between the pin contact sections and the sides of the openings of the rear insert into which the pin contact sections extend, groups of contacts can be made to shear at different times, thereby reducing the force required to shear each group without unduly weakening the contacts.

  • Patent number: 6144870
Abstract: A catheter has a flexible, elongate, substantially cylindrical catheter body with at least one lumen extending from the proximal end toward the distal end. One or more radial passages intersect the lumen from the outer surface of the catheter body. A conductive lead is threaded through the lumen and passage to the outer surface of the catheter where it is circumferentially wrapped about the catheter to form a lead portion. A metal sleeve electrode is rotationally swaged over the lead portion in electrically conductive contact with the lead portion. A plurality of lead portions may be formed circumferentially about a catheter body by threading the conductive lead out of a passage around the catheter and back into the passage and lumen to another passage where another lead portion is formed.

  • Patent number: 6132391
Abstract: A portable position detector and a position management system that are capable of accurately detecting the direction of a walking body even when GPS signals cannot be received (or without reception) and thereby enhancing the accuracy of the dead reckoned position of the walking body. The portable position detector is equipped with a pedometer and a geomagnetic sensor. With the pedometer, the moved distance of a walker is detected by a calculation of "the number of steps.times.the length of a step". The moved direction is detected with the geomagnetic sensor. With this, the moved position of the walker is accurately detected by the self-contained navigation system.

  • Patent number: 6125731
Abstract: A ball screw spline shaft 41 is driven for rotation by a drive motor 53 provided at least on one end thereof. When a feeder ball nut 61 moves in response to the rotation of the ball screw spline shaft 41 from one end of the ball screw spline shaft 41 toward the other end, intermediate supports 65 on both sides thereof travel in the same direction at a lower speed on a support guide 67 and the ball screw spline shaft 41. As a result, the intermediate supports 65 on both sides are located in positions around the middle of the distances between the feeder ball nut and both of the ends and moves while supporting the ball screw spline shaft 41. This increases the critical speed of the ball screw spline shaft 41 to increase the speed of rotation of the ball screw spline shaft 41.

  • Patent number: 6123900
Abstract: This invention provides for a method of sterilizing a chemical composition contained within a closed container (20). The chemical composition is initially mechanically filtered (12) and then the containers (20) are closed and hermetically sealed within a first sealing layer (24). The first sealing layer (24) and the chemical container (20) form a single layer sealed enclosure (26) which is then encased within a second sealing layer (30) and hermetically sealed to form a second layer sealed container enclosure (32). The second layer sealed container enclosure (32) is then inserted into a carton (36) having a third sealing layer (38) lining. The carton is closed and then irradiated with gamma radiation at a predetermined dosage level to sterilize the contents of the container (20). The closed cartons (36) are then transported to operational sites where the plurality of sealing layers (24, 30 and 38) provide for optimized contamination reduction.
